Kyra's POV
I ran toward my car. Tears threatened to fall, but I held them back. Someone grabbed my elbow. Nathan turned me around. He was breathing hard. His face looked worried and scared.
"Kyra, it's not what you think—" he said desperately. He held my arm tightly but gently.
"I'm sorry," I said.
My throat felt tight. "I didn't mean to walk in. I just..."
"Kyra, listen." His eyes searched mine. "Sophia and I are nothing. We broke up years ago. I don't love her."
"We broke up years ago too," I whispered.
He loosened his grip a little. He stared at my face. "I want us to try again. I've wanted that since I saw you again."
"This isn't the right time—"
"I can't wait anymore, Kyra." His voice broke. "I didn't kiss Sophia. She forced it. She came to my office and did that. Please, believe me."
I looked at his eyes. I could see love there. I could see his fear of losing me. I knew when Nathan lied. I knew when he told the truth. After all these years, I still knew him.
