Chapter 78: Spiral Wave
After a brief exchange, Sasuke discovered that Kurama Kon did not have the typical arrogance of someone born into a ninja clan. Instead, she was a bit like Hyūga Hinata: outwardly weak, but with great inner strength. Kon greatly admired Sasuke and, after getting to know him, kept asking him questions about training.
Sasuke shared some of his ninja experience with her. Seeing the girl take out a small notebook and diligently write down every word, he felt inclined to speak more, especially about chakra control, which greatly benefited Kon. In return, Sasuke took the opportunity to ask her about illusions.
He was impressed that a genin could perform a B-rank illusion. Her talent was extraordinary. Sasuke had always wanted to practice genjutsu, but had never had the opportunity. Even if he couldn't learn to create them, he at least wanted to learn to dispel them without resorting to self-harm.
It was just a simple exchange, but he benefited greatly. Seeing that Sasuke wanted to leave, Kon immediately pulled out a small pink notebook and handed it to him.
"Senpai, these are my illusion training notes. I hope you don't mind."
"Good, thank you!" Sasuke nodded, putting away the valuable gift. Training notes from a member of the Kurama clan were the kind that couldn't be bought with money. Illusions, unlike elemental ninjutsu, were almost impossible to obtain outside of clans.
Feeling indebted, Sasuke looked at Kon. "You look very thin. You need to take more supplements in the future." He observed her fragile figure, not with personal interest, but with a purely tactical mindset. 'A kunoichi in her state couldn't endure the stresses of prolonged combat. Her physical weakness is a serious disadvantage.'
"Mmm," Kon responded, blushing.
"Well, you can eat more of this in the future, so you can grow well."
Sasuke gave her a box of his energy blocks as a thank-you gift, then said goodbye and returned to his defense zone. As he left, he heard Kon murmur to herself: "Although Senpai isn't very handsome, he's so gentle and reliable... Ah, I forgot to ask his name."
Back at his post, with his clones on guard, Sasuke directed his team's practice and then entered his own intense training mode. Days passed. If he got bored, he went to collect honey. Stone bees were common, and with a mini Rasengan, he could easily break their nests.
He collected thousands of kilograms of honey, but sold none. He kept it for his own consumption and for making his energy blocks. He sold the sugar blocks to Ku Enzo at a high price, and with the money, he bought more maltose and accumulated a large quantity of explosive tags and ration pills.
He obtained information from the gate guards. In the Land of Rain, Hanzo of the Salamander was on his last legs. Sasuke predicted that in less than half a year, Hanzo would give Jiraiya and his group the title of the Legendary Sannin and sign a truce. Once that happened, the war with Sunagakure and Iwagakure would intensify. Strategic materials like his energy blocks and explosive tags would become invaluable. He was investing for his "retirement."
"The Rasengan has no more room for improvement for now. It's time to turn it into a void wave," he told himself one day.
After absorbing a clone's experience, he realized he had reached a dead end with the basic Rasengan. He planned to go to the military post to buy steel tubes and iron rods to develop his next idea: the Spiral Wave. The inspiration came from an anime from his previous life and the way the Chidori had extended to create the Chidori Sharp Spear.
'The logic is simple, yet elegant,' he thought. 'The Rasengan is the ultimate expression of form transformation. If a rubber ball condenses it into a sphere, what would happen if the container were a cylinder? A tube? It could probably force the rotating chakra to project forward. A projectile.'
