He exhaled, absently scratching the back of his neck. "Maybe," he said. His tone was flat, not dismissive, but distracted.
Yuna caught the shift in his mood. Her brow furrowed. "Something wrong?"
Jae didn't answer right away. His mind had wandered again to something that had nagged at him all day. He shifted his gaze to the side, staring at the bookshelf across the room, eyes unfocused.
"I didn't see Byun in class today," he said eventually.

Before he could react, she did something unexpected. Without a word, she moved forward on her knees and climbed onto his lap, her thighs straddling his.
