Chapter 123 - Chapter 123: Battle in Progress

The sky churned with thunderclouds, lightning flashing in jagged arcs.

The earth quaked beneath storms of wind and rain.

Green blood spattered across the beach and into the sea. The giant loomed like a mountain, his colossal body scarred and torn.

"Hahahaha… what a surprising little creature. To think your Devil Fruit could wield such terrifying power."

Woganfu glanced down at the gash across his chest, where the black metal beneath his flesh was laid bare. Yet he felt no pain. His rough, numb face twisted into a savage grin.

What had begun as mere curiosity had turned into astonishment. The insect before him was far more tenacious than expected—so much so that Dragon had already exceeded his imagination.

"Heh…"

Dragon spat out blood-stained saliva. His shadowed face split into a crazed smile. "I didn't think you weren't even alive to begin with."

Outwardly he looked calm, but inside his heart surged with crashing waves.

He had never imagined these vicious giants were not true men at all—but monsters wearing human skins.

For some reason, as he looked upon them, an image of his comrade surfaced in his mind.

That gentle man, willing to sacrifice everything for their cause—Bartholomew Kuma, the Tyrant.

Was the giant before him strong?

Yes. Unprecedentedly strong. Stronger than any foe he had ever faced.

Even without such overwhelming power, the sheer mass of that colossal body and its suffocating pressure made the battle difficult.

Even with his powerful Devil Fruit, Dragon had not yet reached the point of unrestrained, effortless dominance.

And only now, at this moment, did Dragon truly come to recognize the nature of this world—

and the depth of the strength it contained.

"Little one, I'll take back my words of disdain. You are an opponent worthy of my respect."

Woganfu's gaze swept the sky, fixing on Dragon's eagle form. He could hardly believe that the boy's damned powers had inflicted such grievous damage.

It wasn't enough to kill him, but the impact on his body was far from small.

"Raaahhh!"

With a bellow, Woganfu unleashed his might. A wave of oppressive power burst forth from his body.

The atmosphere itself thickened, pressing down like heavy chains.

Dragon faltered midair, his great eagle's wings struggling as his hurricanes weakened.

Then, with a movement like a mountain shifting, Woganfu twisted his massive frame. From his short axe erupted a colossal black slash.

ZZZZZZT—!

The air screamed. Black light tore at the sky, its edges burning with pale-blue flames from the friction of rending space.

The strike flew forth like a cursed fire, the sound like cloth being ripped apart.

"Thunderclap!"

Dragon's piercing cry split the heavens. Thousands of bolts converged into one brilliant azure pillar of lightning, striking down with a speed that defied sight.

The two forces collided in an instant.

BOOOOM!

The explosion shook the skies. Flames erupted upward—not true flames, but oxygen igniting under the clash of violent energies.

The burning air radiated outward in unseen shockwaves.

At the epicenter, the impact carved out a true vacuum.

The beach, the earth, the sea, and the trees along the coast—all were vaporized in an instant.

A mushroom cloud of dust surged upward, rippling outward in great concentric waves.

Hurricane winds raged. Dragon was swallowed whole by the storm.

The dust cloud rolled outward, engulfing even Woganfu from the waist down.

Under thunder and lightning, it seemed all would be obliterated in the maelstrom.

KREEEEE!

A ragged, mournful cry pierced the storm. With a deafening crack, the dust cloud split open.

From within burst a bloodied eagle, its feathers soaked in crimson.

"What a stubborn little insect…"

Woganfu's face darkened. With a savage growl, he swung his massive shield, conjuring a gale that tore the dust cloud away, revealing the battlefield once more.

"No… way."

Dragon, having escaped the cloud, turned his sharp gaze downward. In his eyes flickered disbelief.

What did he see?

What sort of body was this…?

The giant's colossal form—below the waist—was shredded, ragged meat hanging loose. Green blood, unlike any human's, dripped steadily from ruptured veins, pattering onto the beach before seeping into the earth.

It looked almost normal—yet the wrongness of it gnawed at the mind.

CRASH!

Woganfu suddenly dropped to his knees, the ground trembling beneath him.

"Damn you… to damage my body like this…"

His face twisted in shock. He stared at his legs—stripped of all flesh—his heart roiling in disbelief.

Every Giant God's body had been tempered through endless reforging. To scar them was already difficult for ordinary men.

Yet in that last exchange of energies, his flesh had been utterly destroyed.

Their bones were mighty, but they were not true machines. Without their flesh, they were little more than piles of steel.

KREEEEE!

Dragon was not only a warrior—he was a revolutionary, a strategist.

Against such an opponent, stronger even than himself, he would show no mercy.

This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Without hesitation, he unleashed his full power.

Even knowing there were other giants watching from afar, their eyes sharp with predatory intent, he resolved to annihilate the one before him.

The skies darkened as if ink were spilled across them. Hurricanes, lightning, torrential rain, and hail converged into a single calamity.

BOOOM! BOOOM!

Thunder roared. A pale-white line arced between sea and sky, distorting the very air.

The surging waves rose upward, sucked high into the sky, coiling into a massive waterspout that linked ocean to clouds.

"Damn it!"

"No!"

"Impossible!"

"Stop him, quickly—!"

The giants watching from the sea broke into alarm at the sight of the growing water dragon.

It was not death they feared, but the destruction of their warships.

For the sea beneath them was the greatest abyss.

Having forsaken human flesh, if they fell into the ocean, they would sink to the bottom, never to rise again.

Better to die in battle than to slumber forever in the depths.

"It's too late."

"Pfft—!"

Dragon's grim words were followed by a spray of blood. Crimson streamed from his sharp eagle's eyes.

BZZZZZT…

Within the rolling thunder, the sound of rending air multiplied.

Thin twisters stretched between sky and earth. One by one, they writhed and thickened, until each became a massive dragon of storm, roaring across the sea.

The wind-dragons rampaged, tearing through the entire region.

The giants, unwilling to sink into the abyss, roared back in fury, swinging their colossal weapons and unleashing strikes of unimaginable power against the raging storm…
