Back then, the World Government speculated that Dragon's Devil Fruit ability might be that of storms.
However, after the awakening of the Twenty Kings not long ago, they finally learned that the Storm Fruit had always been in the possession of those old relics.
Thus, upon seeing Dragon again now, their curiosity about his Fruit ability only deepened. After all, the power to command hurricanes and thunder could only remind them of a storm.
Yet what they did not know was that Dragon's Fruit had never once appeared in the Devil Fruit Encyclopedia. Even Dragon himself, when he first ate it, had never expected it would be something so terrifying.
And it was precisely this Fruit, and the strength it granted him, that birthed the grand and boundless ambition in his heart…
Across this vast sea, countless things remain unknown. Even after hundreds and thousands of years, Devil Fruits have never been fully catalogued.
Some Fruits have long since faded away in the river of history. Others, however, are so unforgettable that they carve themselves into the memory of mankind.
Among the Giant God Battalion, there was one called Clough (OC). In truth, even his real name had long been forgotten—by himself most of all.
But within that colossal body, the soul inside still clung to a single, indelible memory: the memory of the Fruit ability Dragon was displaying at this very moment.
"How… how could it be? How could this Fruit appear here?"
Watching the natural phenomenon that erupted as Dragon's ability awakened, Clough could no longer sit still.
It wasn't that he bore any deep hatred for this Fruit, but in that soul's memory… this Fruit had once belonged to his wife.
As Dragon's ability unfurled, those long-buried memories slowly resurfaced.
He recalled countless things—memories that felt like his own, yet weren't—leaving his mind clouded in turmoil.
"W-What is this?"
"Not a Logia?"
"A… Mythical Zoan…"
On the shoreline, three World Government army admirals stood on the sand, staring in astonishment at the man before them—Dragon—who had transformed into a massive azure bird.
No one could have imagined that the man once said to command wind and rain was, in fact, a Zoan.
And not just any Zoan… but one they couldn't even recognize!
"What's wrong?"
"Are you surprised?"
"Heh… hehehe…"
Dragon looked at the stunned faces before him. The totemic markings across his face curved into a cold smile.
Their reaction didn't surprise him in the least.
Hadn't he himself worn the exact same expression back when he first ate this Fruit?
"It truly is astonishing. No one could have guessed that a man like you… would be a Mythical Zoan."
The nine-meter-tall Buddha's lips parted, his voice tinged with disbelief.
But no matter how they racked their brains, they could not fathom how a Mythical Zoan could summon wind and rain.
They couldn't even find a matching creature in their memory.
Still, they knew one thing clearly: Dragon would never explain it to them. The only path forward was to either kill him—or capture him alive.
"No matter what Fruit you wield, today's outcome cannot be changed."
The Buddha spoke, his tone frigid, before vanishing with a thunderous boom. His staff of subjugation shimmered faintly with golden light as he swung.
It was the Buddha Fruit's most basic attack—the golden radiance condensed into a blazing arc of light that instantly pierced through the air, streaking toward the azure giant bird.
The enormous bird, its wingspan over thirty meters, looked tiny compared to Ghidorah or Rodan. Yet before that golden arc, it showed not the slightest fear.
Its beak opened wide, unleashing a piercing cry that echoed across the heavens. With it came a bolt of lightning that split the clear sky.
RUMBLE!
Amidst deafening thunder, two forces—each near the speed of light—collided, erupting in an explosion of shockwaves.
Hurricane gales swept outward.
And yet, the massive azure bird remained untouched by the golden energy. With a single powerful beat of its wings, it dove from the skies.
FWOOOSH!
Each flap conjured a violent, icy storm. At the same time, countless tiny crystalline shards shot forth like bullets in a torrential barrage.
"Damn it—what is this?!"
Even as they struggled to defend themselves, the three were shocked. In all their years of battle, they had never faced an attack so terrifying.
When those countless shards struck the ground around them, they finally realized what they were.
Ice.
Hailstones.
Tiny, needle-like hail, swarming in overwhelming numbers, riddled the entire beach with holes.
As the hailstorm raged, the earth itself trembled beneath their feet.
The three stared up at Dragon's descending form, their eyes wide with horror.
"Dragon—you're seeking death!"
The colossal Buddha roared, his towering figure moving at last. Compared to the giant bird, his body seemed vast. His right fist clenched, golden energy wrapping around it, and he hurled it upward at Dragon with a mighty punch.
A blazing sphere of golden force tore through the air, sending sand flying and splitting the earth beneath.
BOOM!
The deafening impact landed—but was blocked by the bird's massive wing.
"What—impossible…"
The Buddha's eyes bulged with disbelief. Then he realized—the golden energy hadn't been stopped by flesh and feather, but by a faint emerald aura that cloaked the wing.
It flowed like wind… yet was not wind.
As the two forces ground against each other, the very air shrieked with an unbearable screech.
"If you think something like this can defeat me, then you might as well prepare for death!"
Dragon's expression remained utterly calm. He didn't even glance at the golden energy, simply beating his wings once more—and sending the golden attack soaring back into the sky.
"What kind of monster is this…?"
On the ground, the massive rhinoceros general looked up in shock before thrusting his horn. A crescent-shaped slash of air hurtled forth.
"Gale Slash!"
Dragon met the attack without a flicker of fear. His wings swept forward again, loosing a storm of razor-thin wind blades.
In an instant, the crescent slash was shredded to nothing, while the relentless blades swept across the entire shoreline.
Dragon's mastery of his Fruit was absolute. In the skies, he was sovereign.
As the wind blades bombarded the ground, Dragon surged forward once more. In the raging storm, he moved as swiftly as a fish through water.
In a flash, he was upon the rhinoceros. His colossal talons came crashing down.
CRACK—!
The earth shattered. Sand and dust billowed skyward. A violent shockwave and howling winds spread outward in all directions.
"How… how could this be?!"
The Buddha stared at the sight before him as though beholding the impossible. He gazed at the monstrous azure raptor, as if seeing Dragon for the first time.
SQUELCH!
Amid the howling winds and shifting sands, a sharp, sickening sound rang out.
When the storm subsided, the scene before them was even more horrifying.
In the Buddha's eyes, the once-proud rhinoceros general—his comrade—was now gripped in the talons of the great eagle. The claws had pierced clean through his skull.
Blood gushed forth in torrents, mingled with something white.
Neither of them had ever imagined their companion would be slain so suddenly, in the blink of an eye…
Not even given the chance to scream.
