Chapter 30: Kael, the Crazy Alchemist Part 2
After bidding farewell to Elowed with ten sacks of materials, Kael hailed a public carriage to take him at the southern gate of the Sylvaris Kingdom.
Even without needing to say it himself, he couldn't possibly carry ten sacks packed to the brim with materials. The very existence of Public Carriages is meant for this exact reason.
A Public Carriage is a fully covered horse-drawn wagon that dozens of people, normally who don't know each other, could ride at the same time.
That's right, Kael shared the ride with multiple people that he doesn't know.
Fortunately, people who normally ride on Public Carriages already expect an unpleasant ride, so they didn't mind Kael taking up so much space with the ten sacks he bought along. But as a result, Kael needed to pay more compared to people who only bought enough with them.
Kael still had enough coins left after purchasing all materials. After all, Elowed only asked for one gold coin for all of them.
With the Public Carriage, it didn't take long for Kael to reach the southern gate.
Kael spotted Elandor and approached the latter to inquire about the current events in the territory of the Slvaris Kingdom that ordinary people are allowed to know. The latter didn't mind it and indulged himself in the conversation.
Kael might have come from the future, but that doesn't necessarily mean he could still remember everything to the exact detail of how it took place, let alone know everything that happened. Moreover, during this time, he was so busy trying to earn money in Noverra and getting stronger in Avalon by killing Magical Beasts and increasing his weapon proficiency.
Staying true to Avalon being a world of magic, there's a system that exists in the entire world where one could increase their weapon proficiency by either doing training or killing Magical Beasts.
It's like leveling up in games. How it works is, if one uses a sword all the time, they increase their level with the sword until eventually they become a swordmaster or reach the top and become either a Sword Saint or a Sword God.
The difference between a game and Avalon is that one cannot choose a specific class as if selecting a job, like choosing to become a swordmaster, which would grant benefits tied to the specific class and weapon, and allow them to focus on mastering it.
A more specific example is like in games, where if one chooses the assassin class, they'll automatically have an increase in stats with any dagger-type and hidden-type weapon, their body will transform into a suitable assassin's body, thus earning bonus stats in agility, flexibility, and dexterity, and lastly, receive skills related to being an assassin.
There's no such thing as that in Avalon.
That's because this is not a game.
This is reality.
In the world of Avalon, a person chooses a weapon and gains experience with it by learning techniques, expanding their skillset, or slaying Magic Beasts. During the process, they'll earn the so-called experience points, which are then automatically assigned to the weapon they've been using. There's also no means of getting skills just by leveling up. In order to learn a skill, one has to study and practice it until one successfully learns it.
As one continues to expand their experience with that specific weapon, sooner or later, they'll reach a certain level that separates them from normal humans, called superhumans. Needless to say, there's no limit to their growth as they continue to gain more and more experience points. One's limit basically depends on their effort, fortuitous encounters, and potential.
More importantly, a person doesn't necessarily have to be limited to a single weapon. They could practice with a sword today, then practice wth a magic staff tomorrow, and so on.
Naturally, using more weapons means less time to master a specific weapon, thus making it harder to catch up to people who solely focus on a single weapon. Of course, there are always people who are an exception, who are called geniuses. A certain group of people who could easily master any weapon of their choice as if simply sipping on water.
Of course, this system also applies to every gear, like armor and shield, and tools like magic books and magic orbs. Even Magical Beats follows this strict system to become stronger.
However, the best way before starting to gain experience points is to upgrade the profession part in the ID Card. One could only pick between warrior, mage, or merchant. Although people who don't have any profession yet could still gain experience points, they would not be able to access valuable resources, like weapons, gears, and tools, and key establishments, like the warrior's lounge, the mage tower, the mercenary tavern, and the merchant union, that could tremedously help them in their chosen path.
Putting that aside for now, Kael also got to learn from Elandor that they are now hearing rumors about people who came out of nowhere while bringing with them unknown weapons, gears, and tools, one of such was what they called guns. Although this supposedly gun was proven to be useless against their weapons. In Elandor's opinion, throwing a rock might even be better than using this gun.
Just like what Kael expected, guns were useless in Avalon. Only after experiencing how useless guns are, just like him in his first life, would people start adapting to the weapons of Avalon.
Of course, Kael pretended to be shocked about it. He wasn't worried, though, because people from Avalon would eventually come to know and accept these players who came from Noverra. Of course, it would take a bit of time, more or less a month, if his memory serves him correctly.
Other than the existence of players, Kael also learned of a growing organization that calls itself Nexus. This organization apparently appeared out of nowhere and immediately rose to fame after assisting multiple kingdoms with their internal problems. They have countless members spread out everywhere around the continent of Regalorn, making the kingdoms wary of them at the same time.
Hearing this, Kael couldn't help nodding his head. It was still the same as his first life. It was exactly around this time that the name Nexus started echoing around Avalon. It was also because of them that the inhabitants of Avalon easily came to accept the players of Noverra, since at this early stage, they were carving their image in the light.
Inhabitants of Avalon weren't close-minded individuals. As long as this unknown group of people didn't solely come into existence to terrorize or bring about great destruction to their kingdoms and lives, they pretty much don't care. Moreover, countless mysteries in the world of Avalon have yet to be solved, and they have simply added the players of Noverra to that list.
The last and most important thing Kael learned was that the continent of Exvoria would be opening its doors to the public this month.
For years, the continent of Exvoria had only been accessible to the military forces of the six kingdoms of Avalon, claiming that ordinary people would never be able to survive that place. That's because powerful Magical Beasts rule the entire continent. And unlike the Regalorn continent, where there's a regular clean-up of Magical Beasts every year, thus preventing any of them from becoming excessively strong, it's next to impossible to decrease the population of Magical Beasts in Exvoria, as it is the biggest continent in the entire world of Avalon.
Honestly, even if the entire population of the six kingdoms went into Exvoria, they'd barely be able to occupy a single region on the continent. Not to mention, the majority of the population could never handle the level of Magical Beasts in Exvoria, as only people who could manipulate mana could inflict damage on them.
This was the kind of information Kael was aiming to know.
In his first life, when he came to know about Exvoria, it was already more than a month, and countless players were already exploring the continent, with some already adapting to its cruel and harsh environment.
This was one of the main reasons why he wasn't able to easily catch up to other players. Because while he was grinding to his teeth about earning measly experience points, his peers were earning the same from simply slaying a single Magical Beast in the continent of Exvoria.
Learning about the opening of Exvoria, Kael directed his inquiry about this continent.
Kael and Elandor continued talking while the latter would occasionally go back to the gate to handle the matters of his job until eventually Lawrence and Jayem returned from their mission.
Kael expressed his appreciation to Elandor by giving the latter five gold coins for the information before bidding farewell along with Lawrence and Jayem, as they still have a more important matter to take care of.
Upon arriving at their camp, Kael immediately prepared all the materials he needed to start concocting the knockoff Health Potion.
Meanwhile, Lawrence and Jayem started expanding their territory by building more cabins and other basic infrastructure, like a storage building and a farm.
