Chapter 22: Final Goal
"That was embarrassing." Lawrence coughed awkwardly as he looked at his surroundings and soon noticed the look on the people's faces around them. It was as if the people around them felt disgusted and thought of them as ignorant fools. It couldn't be helped since their reaction just now indeed implied such a type of person.
"That was so unbecoming of me," Jayem pulled his sleeves and fixed himself. He was feeling embarrassed.
Kael smacked the duo's head and muttered. "Don't do something like that next time. And fair warning, we are coming face-to-face with a female elf. If I see you two looking like that again, I'll bash your face to the ground!"
He was pissed. The purpose of giving the duo the Avalon Beginner Guide was exactly so that they won't look like idiots once they reach the Sylvaris Kingdom. But it seems like that still didn't help them at all.
There are also still other races in Avalon as well other than the Elven race. If they're going to react like that upon meeting every single one of them, he might as well leave them alone so that he won't have to suffer the same embarrassment just now. And most likely they'll be meeting the other races here in the Sylvaris Kingdom because this is the capital of their territory, which means the majority of its population gathers in this area.
Lawrence and Jayem simply let out a hollow laugh before following Kael to register their identities.
Considering there are rarely any people who still don't have an Identification Card in the world of Avalon, other than those who came from Noverra, there was only a small line to reach the counter.
Soon, it was Kael's turn.
A female elf with beautiful features and green hair, who is a stark contrast to the female clerk from Johnny's Junk Shop, motioned her hand to a stone tablet to her right side. "Put your right palm on top of the stone tablet, and we will proceed with your registration."
Kael could already recognize the tablet as the Marking Stone. It's a Magic Device that can scan the identity of the person who puts their hand on top. Only basic information, though, like name, age, gender, race, and profession.
Without hesitation, Kael put his hand on top of the Marking Stone.
In the next moment, a bright light began wrapping around Kael's hand like a thread until eventually it fully blocked his hand from view. But he didn't panic as he knew the light was like a scanner that scans for his basic information.
While that was happening, the female elf took out a small identification card that was empty below the table and prepared a special ink for writing.
*Whoosh!
Following that sound, a small trace of light shot out from his hand, and a strange and unfamiliar letter started forming mid-air.
These letters might be unfamiliar to Lawrence and Jayem, but Kael was already well-versed in the alphabet of Avalon. The letters were his name, age, gender, race, and profession.
While that was happening, the female elf quickly began inscribing unfamiliar letters on the blank parts of the Identification Card.
As soon as the light that wrapped around Kael's hand disappeared, the female elf also finished writing the rest of the blank parts, except for one. It was a
"It's done!" The female elf smiled gratefully and handed Kael the Identification Card while taking another as a copy to be sent to their higher-ups for auditing purposes and identity tracking. "First time registering is considered free. But the next time, you'll have to pay a fee for losing your Identification Card, no matter the reason for how you lost it."
"Thank you!" Kael slightly bowed his head in gratitude before stepping out of the line.
Now, it was Lawrence and Jayem's turn.
Fortunately, this time, the duo didn't react like fools and ignorant. They wore casual looks as they proceeded with their registration.
Because of that, the process went smoothly, and it didn't take that long for the trio to finish getting their respective Identification Cards.
"I can finally hunt animals and Magical Beasts!" Lawrence expressed his excitement. In his own opinion, the real money makers were those two instead of the ores and flora.
"Not yet!" Kael discouraged them. "See that last part. It means profession, and right now it says none."
"How can you tell?"
Lawrence and Jayem were surprised. There was practically no clear indication of any similarities between Avalon's alphabet to Noverra's alphabet. So, they didn't expect Kael would know how to read the strange and unfamiliar symbols.
"I'll update the Avalon Beginner Guide next time so that you'll also be able to learn their alphabet." Kael comforted them.
"So, where do we go next?"
Needless to say, Lawrence and Jayem already knew what they came to do in coming to Sylvaris Kingdom. They just don't know the direction to the stores they wanted to visit.
"Follow me!"
This time, it was Kael's way to lead the duo.
As they finally entered the Sylvaris Kingdom, the trio was instantly greeted by buildings that seemed to have integrated themselves into giant trees and other types of nature, like rocks, mushrooms, and building-sized flora. Nevertheless, it doesn't take a genius to figure out they're houses, stores, and different sorts of establishments.
Imagine a tree house. The buildings around them were like that, except instead of the house being on top of the tree, they're instead inside the tree, with just some concrete or other materials outside to indicate they are an establishment.
"So this is how the world would look like if we adapt our infrastructures with nature," Lawrence was amazed. "No wonder the Elves we've met along the way are beautiful and pretty."
It was only natural. Those who protect nature to such a level and degree are bound to receive the blessings of the trees, flowers, plants, and animals they safeguard.
"How ironic," Jayem muttered.
"Why?"
"Imagine, we live in the most desolate and unforgiving continent in the entirety of Noverra. But when we enter Avalon, we are spawned in a place blessed by nature."
"True!"
Kael also agreed. This was why he fought for Avalon and stood against Noverra. It's because when he first entered this world, he received a blessing that he never thought he'd be able to enjoy in his entire life of living in a God-forsaken world.
"Let's put that aside for now!" Kael pulled Lawrence and Jayem back from their deep thoughts and explained. "First, we go to a Prospect Store, then a Herbal Store to sell the materials we brought with us."
Right now, inside the bags and luggage they've bought with them were the contents inside the two sacks they purposely left inside Manager Drex's cabin yesterday.
"Avalon has their own currency, which is gold and silver coins. We will have to get our hands on that before we can do any sort of business in the Sylvaris Kingdom." Kael turned his head to the giant tree at the very center of the Sylvaris Kingdom.
When they were outside the walls of Sylvaris Kingdom, they weren't able to see what was below the Tree of Life. But now that they're inside, they could finally see that there's actually a huge palace next to the tree.
Unlike the majority of the buildings around them, the palace was one of the few buildings in the Sylvaris Kingdom that didn't integrate its building with nature. This was a given, considering other than the Tree of Life, no other plant could accommodate a building as huge as a palace.
"Is that the palace of the Royal Family?" Lawrence pointed out.
"That's right!"
"So our final goal here in Sylvaris Kingdom is to earn an audience and establish a connection with their Royal Family?" Jayem's eyes turned sharp.
"Exactly!"
"If our goal is to reach the top, then it's only natural we start achieving great things!" Lawrence let out a chuckle.
"Sounds fair to me," Jayem smiled.
"Let's begin!"
Kael began leading the duo to the nearest Prospect Store and Herbal Store to sell all the materials they had bought.
In the midst of selling, the trio explored every store they encountered along the way to familiarize themselves with the environment of the Sylvaris Kingdom. They also spent a few of their earnings to taste the delicacies this territory has to offer, at least the cheap ones, since they are still considered poor in this new world.
After a few hours of exploring, they finally finished with half of their goal today.
"In total, we got ourselves ten gold coins and five silver coins," Kael muttered after he finished counting the coins inside the pouch.
"So every ten silvers is one gold coin?" Lawrence just couldn't understand exactly why their currency works like this. He believes the system in Noverra works better, like there's a bill for every notetable value. In that way, they won't waste time converting ten silver coins to a single gold coin.
"Every civilization has its own ways of doing things. As foreigners in Avalon, we ought to respect that," Kael explained.
Even Nexus didn't dare to change this system in Avalon despite having the power to do so. In his opinion, if his enemy respects it, then he'll respect it as well.
