Town High School.
Students disembarked from the school bus, gathering in small groups.
"So, you received a Love Letter?"
Chloe, holding the Love Letter Lana had given her, had a strange expression. "But finding it in the Cemetery feels a bit creepy."
"It's alright." Lana shrugged, tilting her head with a smile. "Getting a Love Letter is like a lost art for me."
Peter peeked at the envelope, standing on his tiptoes. "Do you know who wrote it?"
"I don't know. Maybe some anonymous admirer."
The three of them were talking when someone patted Peter on the shoulder.
"Hey, good morning, everyone."
Clark, with bruises around his eyes, greeted them with a grin.
However, the moment she heard Clark's voice, Lana's smiling face instantly turned cold. She walked away quickly, expressionless, clearly still harboring resentment towards Clark's behavior that day.
"Hey, Clark!"
Jessie appeared from nowhere, blocking Clark's path, "What about our date? Big boy, I've been waiting for a long time."
Peter gave Clark a look that said, "You're on your own," and then walked away as well.
Clark immediately felt a headache coming on.
If time could be turned back, he would never have chosen to buy that ring.
Look at what he'd gotten after buying the ring?
His pursuit of Lana, which had been going smoothly, was now at a standstill, and even his adoptive parents had been critical of his previous behavior these past few days.
After fobbing off Jessie, Clark covered his forehead in distress, feeling utterly dispirited for a moment.
"If you need some advice."
A strong arm wrapped around Clark's shoulder: "My advice is to have them all."
"Don't say that, Gino." Clark looked at his friend with a bitter expression.
"What's wrong?" Gino winked at Clark: "Both ladies have their own merits."
"The lovely Lana."
"Passionate Jessie."
Gino opened his hand and then clenched it slightly: "If I were you, I'd take them all."
"What about Chloe?" Clark looked at Gino's eyes, unwilling to be outdone, and countered: "Isn't she excellent?"
"But I've never asked her out on a date."
Clark fell silent. Well, that was indeed his fault, even inviting Jessie on a date in front of Lana.
Thinking about it made him annoyed, so he decided not to think about it and instead consulted Gino about what he had been holding back.
"Did you hear the commotion last night?"
"I encountered a terrifying enemy last night."
The two walked towards the classroom, chatting as they went.
Gino, suppressing a laugh, sat down at his desk. "That's truly terrifying. So, that's how you got those black eyes?"
"Exactly, but I'm more worried about something else." Clark pointed to his own eyes, then looked at Gino's. "You have it too, right?"
"Have what?"
"That ability to shoot Heat Vision from your eyes."
"Oh, you mean that." Gino raised an eyebrow, nodding. "Yeah, just like you, I do have Heat Vision. But what's the problem?"
Hearing Gino's words, Clark was secretly pleased. Gino also possessed this ability, perhaps he could get some advice from him.
"Well, it's like this." Clark pursed his lips, recalling the scene from that night, still feeling a lingering fear. "I discovered I could emit a terrifying, destructive ray from my eyes, but the bad thing is, I can't control its energy output." To put it simply, it's like using a howitzer to swat a mosquito; the output is completely uncontrollable.
"Well, that's definitely a problem, but there are ways to solve it." Gino thought for a moment. "I ran into that situation myself back then, but you can control the power output with practice."
The boy patted Clark on the shoulder. "It's like driving a car, practice makes perfect."
"My suggestion is to go to your farm and find a Scarecrow or something to practice your abilities on, until you can master it easily."
"And one more thing."
Gino picked up the pen on the table and twirled it absentmindedly. "I saw Lana at the Cemetery last night."
"She was probably visiting her parents."
Clark sighed. As a simp for the goddess, the boy knew that Lana's parents' deaths were related to the meteor shower caused by his arrival on Earth.
So, Clark felt a sense of guilt towards Lana. If it weren't for him, perhaps Lana's parents wouldn't have died.
"Then, he found a Love Letter at his parents' Cemetery."
Gino, with a smile, looked at Clark, enjoying the spectacle, and propped his chin, fanning the flames: "Hmm, a Love Letter suddenly appearing at the Cemetery, and then thinking about the strange occurrences that often happen in the Town…"
Before Gino could finish, Clark couldn't sit still any longer and stood up with a "whoosh":
"Lana might be in danger!"
Putting aside the practice of Heat Vision, Clark turned his head and looked behind him.
Lana was sitting with Chloe, and she was holding a crumpled piece of paper in her hand.
His eyes easily pierced through the white paper envelope, and when he saw the contents of the letter, Clark's expression became even more grim.
"So, what are you planning to do?" Chloe nudged Lana's arm.
"It's simple," Lana said, pursing her lips. "I plan to wait at the Cemetery tonight. I want to know who this person is."
"Cemetery exploration," Chloe said, biting the end of her pen. "Maybe this could be good newspaper material. Count me in!"
The night wind swept through the Cemetery, causing the wind chimes to ring.
The brass wind chimes, tinged with rust, emitted a crisp "ding" sound.
The scent of grass and soil permeated the Cemetery, giving a feeling of embracing nature.
But the towering tombstones ruined this feeling.
Cemetery, tombstones, corpses, death, decay.
People always like to imagine, and when they see some things, they always imagine more related things.
"Honestly, I regret wearing so little." Chloe rubbed her arms, feeling a brief moment of warmth before placing the bouquet in her hands in front of Lana's parents' tombstone.
Lana, squatting on the ground, brushed away the dead leaves from the tombstone, and casually asked her companion, "Do you think he'll show up?"
Chloe, playing along with Lana's wishes, replied, "Most likely."
"If a boy falls for a girl, he'll always persevere instead of giving up halfway."
Time ticked by, and besides the night wind cutting like a sharp blade, the only sound was the eerie calls of owls.
"Ugh, it's freezing."
Chloe hugged herself, shivering. The Cemetery was built in a remote, sparsely populated area. Coupled with the drop in temperature at night and the dampness of the soil, the cold and wet air was unbearable.
"Well, it seems we're not going to see..."
Lana hadn't finished speaking when a rustling sound came from the bushes not far away.
"Someone's there!"
Lana stood up and bravely charged towards the bushes.
Under the bright moonlight, she saw a figure in white clothes stumbling away from the Cemetery.
"Hey! Wait, don't run!" Lana shouted. "I just want to talk to you."
