Chapter 55 - A New Copy Card

"This is really interesting."

Gino gripped the car body and gave it a gentle tug.

With a boom, the massive off-road vehicle was righted by the young man. The four wheels reconnected with the concrete road. The process was inevitably bumpy, and Pete and Chloe, who had bumped their heads, cried out in pain.

"Ouch!"

Chloe covered her swollen forehead and mouth. Fighting back the urge to vomit, she pushed open the car door and got out. She looked at Gino with big eyes, her face full of apology: "I'm so sorry, Gino. I ruined your party."

"Ah, no need to apologize. We're friends, aren't we?" Gino smiled. Helping Chloe was just a minor effort for him; what was important was that specimen.

"Just, just friends?" Chloe's expression dimmed. Looking at the carefree young man, she felt a sense of inexplicable loss.

After witnessing Gino's "Divine Power" tonight, Chloe had erected a wall in her heart. Perhaps she and Gino had never belonged to the same world from the very beginning. Maybe, as time passed, this gap would only widen, ultimately isolating them in separate realms.

The only one who might be able to stay with him until the end would probably be the equally mysterious Clark, right?

Gino didn't pay attention to Chloe's emotions. At this moment, little black Pete also shakily climbed out of the SUV.

Even his thick, black lips, which he was so proud of, had turned pale and purplish. It seemed tonight's adventure hadn't been a pleasant experience for Pete.

"God, tonight was a nightmare."

Pete swallowed hard, glancing at Gino with awe in his eyes, then at the monster struggling in the dense forest. He asked the question that was on his mind: "Gino, what do we do now?"

"What do we do?"

Gino sneered, picking up a branch from the ground, and said, "I don't know how you guys react when mice get into your house."

"But unless you're an animal protector, you'd usually kill the mouse that intruded your house."

Gino snapped a twig between his fingers, fashioning it into a crude wooden stake. He turned, smiling at Chloe and Pete. "Do you know how the medieval church killed the Vampires they believed were witches?"

"They'd tie them to a Cross and drive a Wooden Stake through their heart."

Gino lightly tossed the Wooden Stake in his hand, catching it. The boy looked at Pete with a smile. "If you want to watch me kill your Vampire bride, you can come along."

Pete shook his head frantically. "N-no, I don't want to!"

No kidding. That monster had been calling his name the entire time.

Gino wasn't surprised. Perhaps this was the answer he wanted. The boy pointed his slender index finger towards the SUV. "Then, you two drive away."

Pete pursed his lips and, with a dejected Chloe, climbed into the SUV.

The damaged SUV belched out a cloud of black smoke from its exhaust pipe, but it still moved slowly and steadily towards the distance.

Watching the SUV disappear from sight, Gino chuckled and slowly approached the Bat Monster while taking out his phone to call Lex.

"Lex, I've caught another interesting one."

"Yes, you'll need to bring a bigger cage."

Hanging up the phone, Gino walked in front of the Bat Monster. He stared at the creature, which was pinned down by the giant wood and could only raise its head to roar at him. He said in a low voice, "Dead material, how can it be as useful as a living specimen?"

A smile crept onto his lips as Gino raised the Wooden Stake and fiercely stabbed it into the monster's arm.

"Pfft!"

Blood mixed with foul-smelling pus splattered onto the leaves. Ignoring the howling monster, Gino quickly used four wooden stakes to secure the monster's limbs.

Under the cold moonlight, the Bat Monster's tattered red dress looked exceptionally vibrant and beautiful.

The ball he'd longed to attend was something he'd never get to experience.

And, as he could predict, the rest of his life would be spent in the dark Underground Experimental Base.

The first level below the Luthor Chemical Plant.

Nearly half of the world's top biologists gathered outside the giant transparent glass enclosure, observing the creature devoid of reason.

They were scientists hired by the Luthor Group at high salaries, assisting Lex in a groundbreaking research project.

At the front of the crowd,

Lex stood with his hands clasped behind his back, his eyes filled with fanaticism as he watched the Bat Monster on the ground devouring the fat of a live cow.

"Truly, you've given me a great surprise, capturing live specimens."

Lex turned, looking at his brother seated on the sofa.

Upon receiving the news, Lex immediately dropped his work and arranged for professionals to retrieve the specimen as quickly as possible.

In a nearby corner,

The laboratory naturally had a place to rest. Gino had his hands on the sofa, tilting his head to gaze at the ceiling.

"Yeah, a living subject."

Gino responded perfunctorily to his cheap elder brother, but he was actually checking the system interface.

After several weeks of daily interaction with Clark, and Talia's friendly "communication," his points were enough to exchange for a new Copy Card.

With a thought, the next second, a familiar golden card was held between Gino's two fingers. The warm card was covered in intricate and ornate patterns, looking mysterious and strange.

Gino was pondering where he should use this card.

Copy the Bat Monster's ability?

Don't even joke, I can crush those trash creatures with a single finger.

"Lex, when will your experiment begin?"

Gino's gaze swept over the large culture vats in the lab, and he had some ideas in mind.

"It would have taken several years to overcome some technical difficulties, but with this guy..."

Lex turned around and patted the glass cabinet, causing the Bat Monster to bare its fangs and roar. He continued, "I believe my first experiment will begin soon."

"That's good news."

Gino flipped his fingers, and the golden card disappeared. He was already looking forward to what surprises Lex's experiment would bring.

Early morning.

Gino drove his sports car into the school grounds. Two police officers waiting at the gate immediately walked over, their faces plastered with warm smiles. "Mr. Gino!"

Gino glanced at the two officers. Was this about yesterday's murder?

"We received a report from Mr. Julie Moss's father. He reported that his daughter didn't come home last night, and there seems to have been some damage to their home."

One of the officers cautiously said, "According to the information the police have, she was supposed to attend your mansion's ball that evening."

The other officer continued, "May we ask if you saw her at the ball?"

Unexpectedly, Gino's response was a gentle smile. "No, I didn't see Miss Julie Moss, and neither did any of the other guests last night."

The two officers nodded. "We apologize for the intrusion. We're sorry, but Julie's father seems to blame you for his daughter's disappearance. The old man is apparently going crazy, constantly bothering us to ask you questions."

"Who is Mr. Gino?" Gino chuckled, shrugging his shoulders. "The rich second-generation kid who sponsors the town's police department with tens of thousands of dollars every year? There's no way he would kidnap the ugly and fat daughter of Moss."

Gino smiled and shrugged, saying, "It's okay, I understand Mr. Moss's grief."

The two police officers nodded and bowed: "Well, have a nice day, sir."

Gino waved his hand, signaling for the two police officers to leave.

As for what to do about Julie's father? Gino thought it best to let the middle-aged man believe his daughter was only missing.

Telling the man the truth might cause him to go mad from the shock.

His originally plump daughter had become a Bat Monster with no reason, only madness? It was better to keep this hidden.

Today's amusement: Some people are really hard to rate. Clark saved the protagonist's brother, and the protagonist repaid him with a car. Giving Clark some relationship advice can also be criticized as being a bootlicker. I was thinking, when the protagonist taught Clark a lesson during the Grey Incident, he didn't hold back, right? This is a normal friendship dynamic, isn't it? How did being grateful become being a bootlicker? It's really a big stage on the internet, the crazier you are, the better. If there's any kindness at all, the protagonist is a bootlicker, a saint, and must be dark and cruel, right?
