Julie's house.
The two-story house on the west side of town sat quietly in the night.
"Cough, cough."
Pete, dressed in a black suit, looked anxiously at his watch.
The hands pointed to 10:10 PM, ten minutes past the start of Gino's dance.
"Hey, Julie, are you in there?" Pete adjusted the bow tie around his neck; he'd even rented an expensive suit for tonight's date.
"Coming!"
Julie's voice came from behind the door as she pushed it open, smiling in a long red dress.
"Wow, you look amazing tonight!" Pete said, looking at the tall girl and her long legs. No exaggeration, she looked like a runway model.
Pete handed over the flowers he was holding. "These are for you."
"Thank you!" Julie's eyes lit up. She took the flowers from Pete. It was the first time anyone had ever given her flowers.
As she spoke, Pete opened his left arm. "What are we waiting for? Let's go!"
"Thank you."
Julie covered her mouth and giggled, one hand looped around Pete's arm, and the two of them walked towards the car.
Julie was smiling, but the next second, a sharp pain shot through her abdomen, causing her to frown. She involuntarily loosened her grip on Pete's arm.
"You look a little pale. What's wrong?"
Pete turned around in surprise, looking at Julie, who was in obvious pain. He asked with concern, "Do you need me to take you to the hospital?"
Julie took a deep breath. Fighting the emptiness in her stomach, her eyes greedily scanned Pete's thick lips, as if she were looking at two hot dogs.
A ridiculous thought popped into her head: He looks so tempting, so delicious.
She swallowed, but quickly, Julie was startled by her own thoughts.
What am I doing? Pete is a good person, he defended me.
I can't hurt him!
Julie clenched her fists and said in a voice filled with emotion, "Pete, you're very kind to me, but… I'm not feeling well."
She turned and ran towards the house, still holding the flowers Pete had given her, but her voice was clearly laced with a sob, "You're a good person, so please, just leave."
She didn't want to hurt the only boy who was nice to her.
"Wait, Julie!" Pete watched the girl run further and further away, his already dark face turning even blacker. He sighed, "What a strange girl."
Well, that was that. His dance partner had run off, so he couldn't go to the dance.
After all, arriving late would definitely attract a lot of attention.
The thought of a group of people discovering he didn't have a dance partner was more unbearable than killing Pete.
"Sigh."
Pete sighed. Being stood up by the girl in front of everyone made him sad. The boy mumbled, "I'm going home to order some fried chicken with watermelon and eat it all up!"
"Pete!"
A shout broke Pete's reverie. Little Black raised his head to see Chloe leaning out of Clark's SUV.
The girl waved urgently at Pete, "Come quick!"
Just five minutes ago, a bombshell had dropped in the town's journalist circles: high school student Genos had been found dead in the Bayliss Gift Shop. The official cause of death was the disappearance of all his body fat, which further solidified Chloe's suspicion that Julie was not normal.
"What's wrong?"
Seeing Chloe's grave expression, Pete hurried towards her to ask what was happening.
As Chloe explained, the fear that had been building inside Pete began to show on his face. His usually dark complexion paled, and his voice trembled, "You... you're saying Genos is a mummy?"
Pete's mind flashed back to the scene at noon.
He and Julie had indeed seen Genos while they were browsing in the gift shop.
As they spoke, neither of them noticed the vengeful eyes on the second floor of Julie's house, staring intently at the scene.
Julie clutched her stomach with her right hand, the agonizing pangs of hunger burning away her sanity.
"Chloe!" Glaring at the girl talking with Pete, Julie's face was contorted with jealousy. Her cheeks twisted, and her voice became shrill and terrifying. Dense, black fur sprouted from her skin, covering her entire body.
Her slender arms contorted and deformed at the same time, gradually growing into sharp claws.
Two fissures ripped open on her back, and a pair of hideous, pus-dripping wings unfurled, almost filling the entire room.
"Arooo!"
The creature, which resembled a large bat, let out a monstrous shriek. The piercing sound shattered the glass, echoing out the window and exploding through the air throughout the entire street.
The chilling sound raised goosebumps on Pete's skin. He turned his head, glancing in the direction of the noise.
In the night, a massive bat-like monster was perched on the balcony, staring at him with baleful eyes.
"My God!"
Pete let out a shriek, instantly unleashing his racial advantage. He leaped into the car and rolled onto the seat. Screaming, he urged Chloe, "Did you see that monster? Hurry, drive, run!"
"What the hell was that thing!" Chloe cursed, flipping Pete off. She complained, "I told you, and Gino warned you too! Julie wasn't right. Now look at this!"
Chloe, while cursing the lecherous Pete, quickly shifted gears and slammed on the accelerator.
Thanks to Gino's excellent off-road vehicle that he gave to Clark, the wild SUV roared, carrying the two of them toward the distant road.
Everything around them was rapidly receding. Chloe floored the accelerator, constantly increasing the speed. The SUV emitted a deafening roar on the silent road.
Inside the car.
"It, it's still chasing!"
Pete didn't even dare to look back, only daring to watch the monster in the rearview mirror, chasing after the car on all fours.
"What should we do?"
Pete's voice was already laced with a sob. If he could do it all over again, he would slap himself twice yesterday to stop him from accepting Julie's invitation.
Chloe sharply turned the steering wheel, sending the SUV towards the highway, while berating Pete, "Idiot, call Gino and Clark quickly!"
In this situation, only Gino and Clark could save them.
"Oh, right, right, find Gino and Clark!" Pete finally realized he had two mysterious friends. Just from Gino's calm expression when observing Mrs. Ted's corpse, he was definitely not an ordinary person.
Trembling, he pulled out his phone from his pocket, staring at the rearview mirror while muttering, "Hurry, hurry!"
He hadn't even been in love before, he didn't want to die!
"Pete, hurry up!" Chloe screamed. She saw in the rearview mirror that the monster, seeing the distance between itself and the SUV grow, simply flapped its fleshy wings and slowly ascended into the air. It opened its maw, revealing a multitude of jagged teeth, and emitted a chilling shriek: "Pete, you are mine!"
