Chapter 10: The Rogue's Arsenal
[Time – Midday – A Desert Military Compound]
The sun beat down on the sand, a relentless, blinding heat. The air shimmered, a distorted mirage above the endless expanse of sand. Adam stood on a dusty ridge, a pair of binoculars pressed to his eyes. Below him, a secret Ten Rings weapons depot was a hive of activity. Trucks were being loaded with crates, their contents hidden from view. This wasn't a political game. This was a dangerous, high-octane operation. Adam had a job to do.
[SYSTEM: F-Rank: Auditory Distraction Initiated. Target: 'Vehicle Security System'.]
He focused on a truck's security system, its alarm a silent, humming presence. He didn't just make it glitch. He made it play a single, repetitive note, a high-pitched, wailing siren that was a physical assault on the ears. The guards, a group of burly, well-armed men, looked at each other, confused.
"What is that? Turn it off!"
a Ten Rings leader with a scarred face shouted, his voice a low growl.
"I can't! It's on the fritz! I don't know what's wrong with it!"
Adam took a deep breath. This was his chance. He used another ability, [F-Rank: Minor Causality Disruption], to make a fuel line leak on a nearby truck, a small, subtle act of sabotage. The fluid began to drip onto the hot sand, sizzling and smoking. A guard, seeing the leak, shouted in alarm.
"Fire! The fuel line is on fire!"
The high-pitched wail of the alarm, combined with the rising smoke, created the perfect cover. The guards rushed to the truck, their attention drawn away from the hangar. Adam slipped past them, a ghost in the desert heat, and phased through the locked door of the main hangar.
[Time – Moments Later – Inside the Hangar]
The air in the hangar was cool and still. The scent of oil and metal was strong. Adam looked at the crates, his System's vision highlighting their contents. He saw a massive, glowing power cell, a single, glowing orb of pure energy. He saw another power cell, and another, and another. They weren't just holding guns. They were holding power. The power to run a small city. Or a large, menacing suit of armor.
[Mischief System: Power signature detected. Match found: Iron Monger Blueprint.]
The message was brief, but it was a chilling confirmation of his fears. Stane wasn't just working with terrorists; he was arming them. He was building his own suit of armor, his own weapon. And he was using these weapons depots to power it. Adam quickly placed his sabotage devices on the power cells, a series of small, inconspicuous-looking devices that would overload the power cells if they were ever activated.
He heard the heavy footsteps of the Ten Rings leader from outside, his voice a low, furious growl.
"What is this? The alarms are all going off!"
The alarms were not from him. They were from the security systems he had bypassed. They were a sign that something was wrong. Someone had broken in. The Ten Rings leader was no fool. He had to know something was off.
Adam slipped away, phasing through the hangar wall, a ghost leaving behind a trail of chaos. He was now a known entity. He had tipped his hand. Stane knew there was a ghost in the machine, and now, Stane knew what that ghost was capable of. The game was no longer a silent one. It was a race. And Adam had just fired the starting gun.
