"You're my daughter-in-law, even though I don't know how you managed to enter my son's life," he said as he took one step closer to her. "But I wouldn't want to have to get my hands dirty before the elections begin, don't you think, Alisha?"
"Excuse me?" Alisha asked, flabbergasted by the words that slipped from Mr. De Rossi's lips. She wasn't sure if she could use the word slip because it seemed he wasn't intending to sugarcoat his words at all. He wanted to pass his message across correctly, and he stared at her, as if he had just stated the weather condition.
Alisha blinked at him.
"I'm still trying to figure out how you have my son wrapped around your fingers," Mr. De Rossi said. "I'm still wondering how you two met, Eva," he called her by her real name and her body immediately stiffened. "But you're not the daughter-in-law I want."
Alisha frowned at him, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion as she patiently waited for him to continue.
