Varithra returned to the Nyxara warcamp as usual that located at the far west of abyssia. She entered the camp -fatigued after today's battle against two people.
The warcamp was bustling as usual, soldier's running around, moving things, submitting reports and so on.
Varithra silently passed through them without much of a word, she felt like an alien here. Everyone who noticed her has becomes silent and didn't approach her and she used to it.
'No, it's better this way'
Her talent is what sow the fear she looking through everyone's eye. When she was a child, she had so much power but couldn't control her entropic flames well and did alot of damage to the surroundings and peoples.
They wont die but the pain? That's where the problem started . Everyone who looked at it would instantly blame her saying she did this all intentionally and labelled her as a psycho. Some says its a blessing while other says its a curse.
They're probably will pass out if they learned what going through her head right now. It's not like she have any intention of revealing this to anyone, ever to her mother. That would be plain stupidity.
She successfully reached her tent among the silence surrounding which she always grateful for. Just when she about to enter her tent a voice came from behind.
"M-miss".
She turned and saw a guy winced unconsciously now that he facing her directly. He had a black hair and dark eye shaking uncomfortably. She didn't know this man personally but wouldn't suprise if he knows her.
"Yes?" Varithra asked back.
"L-Lady Varessa summoned you", he stammered.
'Mother? Is it about that?'.
Varithra shook her head and sifted her gaze toward the man "why?".
"I, um, thats-".
He was nervously looking around for help clearly doesn't want to be here.
"Fine i would be going, you can leave".
"Thank you!" He bowed his head and run off as if she released him from prison.
'Why can't a superior send this message instead sending someone like this?' She wondered as they are the ones usually can hold a proper conversation with her.
Varithra sighed and sifted her focus elsewhere and started walking toward opposite of her tent until she reached a cave.
She entered the cave and immediately greeted by a man who offers a simple smile.
"Your passage has been informed and approved, you may pass".
He said and moves to the side allowing varithra to walk even depper into the cave. In just few steps she reached a railing and waited for few minutes before hearing a loud and abnormal sound as if something rushing this way.
What she saw was a mournsteed, a form of transportation to the city. It's whole body was like carved from shadow awakened using animentus , Blessing from Zareth, The undead king. These steed has already been extinct centuries ago but still able to summoned as undead thanks to the blessing.
The mournsteed has sharp head with a long antler curved backward toward its neck. It also has four long leg that resembles a spiders. They might look thin and fragile but their step can be powerfull and deadly silent if wanted it to be.
Behind the beast attached an open carriage that carries six people that step off the beast. Four of then ignored varithra while the other two offers a sight smile before passing by.
Varithra gets on to the carriage and immediately the beast take off as if it was wqs always aware of it's assignment. Varithra just closed her eye and leaned back to make herself more comfortable and hoping to pass some time.
The pathway the mournsteed took was underground with a tunnel system that leads into the city from the upper land of abyssia. In just 20 minutes, the steed came to a halt in a similar cave as the one from abyssia.
Varithra stands and left the carriage and pass by some people who getting into the carriage for their trip to abyssia.
When she exits the cave, what greets her was the grand and gloomy Nyxara, City of eternal night. The city never knows day and always under night with the gentle glow of moon that brings us warmth and the familiar feeling of home. The city was lit up by blue flames around instead of torch making the landscape a blueish shade around the buildings.
A tall tower stands in the heart of the city that houses the member of the order of the nyx, the leaders of Nyara. And that tower is also her home. She started to move toward the tower taking the familiar path without wasting much time.
Varithra reached and enters the tower without much problem as she always do and started to climb the circular staircase to the sixth floor.
When she was walking the corridor with an absent mind , she heard some familiar voices.
"Let me handle it alright".
"No, you are to soft with her. I will handle it myself".
"Fine but please atleast-"
The two voice cease as they notice movement in the corridor and sifted their gaze to look at her.
There stand the two people she loves the most. Her mother varessa who had a striking resemblance of herself and her mother's best friend Maria. Maria had a dark blue hair and violet eye just like her and her mothers. Maria was always with varessa and she was like second mother to herself. Maria always look after her more than her own mother due to order's affair.
Varessa narrowed her eye and started to walk away while waving her hand toward varithra gestures to follow.
"To my room, now".
Maria offers a warmth smile before walking behind varessa. Soon varithra follows.
All three of then entered the room. Varessa was standing near her bed while maria slowly closed the door behind and moves to stand beisde her mother.
Varessa turned and studied her before asking.
"I had received multiple report says that you were spotted with a luminaran. Not in a combat but far from the main battlefields. Is it true".
Varessa swallowed hard, its not like she could lie and get away. Both of then would catch on almost immediately.
"Yes, but-".
Before she could finish her head was turned with a stinging sensation on her cheek. Varithra was in daze for a few seconds before realising what had happen.
Maria rushed between them.
"Ressa, what are you doing?! I told you not to strike her". Maria defended.
"Not to strike her?!", Varessa yell. "You know as much as i do what's this mean right? She could be sentenced to solar's embrace if even a single bastard from the order learnt of this".
"We do not work together. It's just coincidence that-". Varithra tried to defend herself.
"Be quiet" varessa shut her up.
"Why should I? I didn't asked to be in this stupid war. I hated it. Why can't the war be -".
"Stop" Varessa interupts in a dangerously low voice. " Don't even think about uttering words like that to anyone else".
"…"
"Do you understand?".
"I'm not stupid enough to say it to anyone".
Varessa exhaled a rough breath. "You are not returning to the battlefield for a week. Go rest".
Varithra turn without much of an argument as she would love to do anything than going into the battlefield again. She shut down the door behind her and returns to her room.
***
After varithra left, there was just silence in the room between the two remaining inside the room.
Varessa slowly make her way toward her bed and sank on it with a huge sigh. Maria slowly sits beside her and holds Varessa's shoulder which then make her immediately lean her head toward maria's shoulder.
"You worried about her", maria broke the silence.
"How could i not, getting spotted with a luminaran and now questioning about the war. If the order found about this, i can't defend her even though I'm one of them. I hold little power in the council ".
"I understand where you coming from but have a little faith in her alright".
There was another silence before varessa opens her mouth again. "We have to complete the ritual sooner".
Maria stiffened, "Are you sure?".
"Yes", Varessa replied confidently. "I lose my husband to this damn war and i'm not about lose my daughter too".
Maria nodded slowly.
"We have to do this without involving her".
"Yes", varessa agreed. "I will burn away every Luminaran from the cycle itself".
"You are not alone, I would be there for you" maria gives her a assured squeeze on her shoulder before standing up.
"Just rest Ressa, i will return to my room"
Just when maria turned and about to leave, varessa grab maria's wrist making maria to stop on her track and turn her face toward her.
With a bowed face Varessa muttered, "stay Ria, it's…been a while. I'm lonely".
Maria gave a gentle smile. "Of course."
As maria sat back down, their fingers intertwined, and Varessa leaned in. Their lips met in a slow, familiar kiss before the scene faded.
