Shizuka led Ren down the hall, her steps quick and purposeful. She was a woman of action, and her excitement was palpable. Ren, meanwhile, felt a strange mix of anticipation and nostalgia. The thought of meeting the characters he had only ever seen in a story filled him with a quiet excitement. He could have used his power to meet them sooner, to insert himself into their lives, but he had chosen not to. He wanted to see how this new reality would unfold without his direct intervention, a testament to his newfound contentment.
The Service Club room was a quiet, unassuming place at the end of the hall. Shizuka threw the door open with a flourish. "Everyone! I have a new member for you!"
Inside, two people were sitting in comfortable chairs, a third sitting off to the side, looking like he'd rather be anywhere else. A beautiful girl with long black hair sat poised and elegant, a book in her hands. She was Yukino Yukinoshita. Across from her, a cheerful girl with short, wavy, light-colored hair was a whirlwind of energy. It was Yui Yuigahama. And off to the side, leaning against a window, was a young man with a cynical expression and a pair of eyes that seemed to look right through everything. Hachiman Hikigaya.
Shizuka gestured to Ren. "This is Shigeno Ren-kun! He's our newest member!"
Ren gave a small, polite bow. "It's a pleasure to meet you all."
Yukino put her book down, her gaze analyzing him. "A pleasure," she said, her voice cool and measured. She had a reputation for being blunt, but she was holding back. Ren was a known figure in the school, a popular and handsome boy, and she felt an instinctive sense of unease. He was too perfect, too put-together, and she immediately became suspicious of his motives.
Yui, however, was the complete opposite. Her face flushed a deep red the moment her eyes met his. She had seen him around school before, admired him from afar. He was the kind of boy that every girl in school had a crush on, and she was no exception. He seemed to have a gravitational pull, and Yui felt herself being pulled in, a wave of embarrassment and excitement washing over her. She gave a small, flustered wave, unable to form a coherent word.
Hachiman simply grunted, his eyes narrowing slightly. He had no idea who Ren was, but he felt a strange, primal sense of unease. Something was off about this guy, he thought, but he couldn't put his finger on it.
Ren, for his part, handled the awkwardness with a surprising sense of ease. This was nothing compared to the chaos of his new life, and he felt like he was in complete control of the situation. He took a seat in an empty chair, a small, knowing smile on his face.
"Alright, you three, get to know each other!" Shizuka said, clapping her hands together. "I'm going to look for another potential member for our club. We still need one more! I'll be back!" With that, she left the room, leaving the four of them in a tense silence.
Yukinoshita noticed Yui's flustered state, and her suspicions grew. She had heard the rumors about Ren and his numerous girlfriends, and she was fiercely protective of her best friend. She didn't want to see Yui get hurt, to fall for a boy who would inevitably break her heart. She decided she would watch him closely, her mind already forming a protective shield around Yui.
The silence was broken by Ren. "So," he began, his voice calm and friendly. "I'm assuming we have a club activity to do?" He might as well get a head start on his system's chores.
Yukino looked at him, her expression a mix of surprise and annoyance. He was perceptive, she had to give him that. She sighed and crossed her arms.
"We do," she said, her voice serious. "We accepted a request just before you arrived. It's related to the upcoming school festival."
The school festival. A complex, chaotic event that would require a lot of work. Ren's smile widened. This was perfect. This was exactly what he needed.
