Chapter 50 - 50

The next morning, the air in Yuragi-sou was surprisingly calm. After spending a half-day as Ren's "hostage," Oboro was told by him that she was free to leave whenever she wished. She had said nothing, simply bowing her head and walking out the door in silence.

Oboro returned to Genshiro's cave as the sun began to rise. Genshiro, looking at her with a puzzled expression, asked where she had been. He recalled her leaving the previous night and not returning until now. He had no memory of the battle with Ren or the kidnapping of Yuuna. The illusion Ren had placed on his mind was absolute. This small but profound detail solidified Oboro's resolution. She was no longer just a loyal blade; she was the last hope for her clan's future. She would bear Ren's children, many of them, to ensure their lineage would be powerful and prosperous.

Later, in the solitude of her room, the memory of Ren returned to her. She thought of the strange, comfortable feeling she had felt in his presence. It was a warmth she had never known, an undeniable pull that was both alien and thrilling. She didn't have a name for this feeling, but she decided she would willingly let it consume her.

Meanwhile, life at Yuragi-sou had returned to its peaceful rhythm. Yuuna, Sagiri, and Hibari were fully recovered. Ren, however, was still keeping an eye on the world outside. The reports about Uesugi's life continued to arrive, and they painted a grim picture. It was getting worse with each passing day.

The next day, a storm of fury descended upon Uesugi. His lies about passing the exam were exposed to the Nakano siblings' father, and as a consequence, Uesugi found himself without a job. Miku, the one sister who had always supported him, was the one who lashed out the hardest, her words cutting deep. "You're disgusting," she had said, a simple phrase that felt like a knife twisting in his chest.

The despair didn't take hold of Uesugi immediately. He tried to fight, to claw his way back to some semblance of a normal life. He found a new job, working the graveyard shift and attending school during the day. For the first week, he managed to hold on, but the relentless torrent of new problems eventually overwhelmed him. When the next exam rolled around, his grades plummeted, and he found himself in last place.

That was the breaking point. Uesugi, finally succumbing to the crushing weight of despair, decided to drop out of school. He threw himself into his work, earning just enough for his sister's operation. But even that was not enough. The operation failed, and his sister died. Broken and defeated, Uesugi's life came to a tragic end on a rainy night as he jumped from a building, taking his own life.

While this tragedy unfolded, Ren was enjoying his life to the fullest. Although his goal of consummating his relationship with Sagiri or Hibari had yet to be fulfilled, a new and interesting development had occurred. Oboro, the former "hostage," had returned and, to the surprise of everyone, announced her intention to become a resident of Yuragi-sou. At first, the others were hesitant, but her blunt declaration that she wanted to have Ren's babies was so sincere and so shocking that Nonko, Sagiri, and Hibari could only sigh and accept her as a new member of the family.

Yaya, on the other hand, had been away for a while and was almost never mentioned. She returned with a sincere apology for not being there to help when Yuuna was kidnapped. To make up for it, she helped Chitose with a massive grocery run, which turned into a fun little trip.

A few days later, a new exam was announced at school. Ichika approached Ren, asking for his help in her studies. Soon, all five of the Nakano siblings were asking him to tutor them. Ren considered using his "Ticket of Relationship" on them, but a mischievous grin spread across his face as he dismissed the thought. He was enjoying this. He wanted to see how this new path would play out, how his presence would shape their lives without him having to force a relationship.

Ren felt no sorrow for what had happened to Uesugi. In a cold, detached way, he was grateful. Uesugi's sacrifice had provided him with a valuable lesson. Ren now held the "Ticket of Despair," and he had been curious about its effects. Uesugi's life became a cautionary tale, a brutal example of why he should never use the ticket on himself.

And so, Uesugi's tragic fate went unnoticed. A young man, once filled with hope and a sense of duty, simply vanished from the world, and no one was the wiser.
