"Don't be afraid," Noor said. "I'll be back, I promise. I'll be careful."
Jane let him go, then adjusted her position, raising her head slightly above the desk, and watched as Noor crept closer to the door.
Noor, in turn, hid behind the decorative trees in pots on either side of the entrance. He moved closer to it, checking every moment to make sure it hadn't noticed him, then quickly moved to the next tree.
He continued this way until he reached the door. He found the spider standing motionless, but he understood what was happening. It was scanning the area with the eye above its head to make sure no one was there. That was why it often stopped moving in each road—to scan the area thoroughly and ensure it was clear of enemies.
Noor turned to go back, looking behind him frequently to make sure it hadn't seen him yet. Tense and not looking where he was going, he collided with one of the artificial trees. It fell, making a loud crash in the building's entrance.
