Gilbert's face darkened when Cherry lowered her head, clutching her phone tightly. The screen still showed Elijah's missed calls. His voice came out cold.
"So, is that why you came to me?" Gilbert asked, his jaw tightening. "Because you couldn't reach him?"
Cherry froze, unable to meet his eyes. She swallowed hard. "N-No… That's not. "
"Don't lie to me!" Gilbert snapped, slamming his hand down on the table beside them. Cherry flinched.
Gilbert dragged a hand through his hair and let out a sharp laugh. "Unbelievable. You turn me down, humiliate me in front of everyone, and now you crawl back because your knight in shining armor didn't pick up his phone?"
Cherry's heart pounded. "I didn't mean it that way. I just… I don't know what else to do."
"You don't know?" Gilbert stepped closer, his glare sharp enough to cut. "Or you're just good at using people when it suits you?"
Cherry shook her head desperately. "That's not true."
