Chapter 78 - Chapter 78: School

About two months had passed since my transfer, and I'd completely adapted to life at this school. The routine had become comfortable, the friendships solid, and the weekend activities... well, those spoke for themselves.

Two months of this new life. Water polo coaching, academic responsibilities, and the most incredible landlady in Tokyo. I've definitely landed in the right place.

Friday afternoon rolled around again, and the weekend anticipation was palpable throughout the entire student body. Everyone seemed slightly unfocused, minds already drifting toward weekend plans.

Friday afternoon energy is universal. Doesn't matter what country you're in—that end-of-week restlessness is the same everywhere.

Our English teacher's monotone lecture echoed through the classroom while warm breeze drifted in through open windows, creating the perfect storm for mass drowsiness.

Sixth period on Friday afternoon might be the worst possible time slot for any class. Half the room is practically unconscious.

I glanced around surreptitiously and confirmed my suspicion—heads were nodding, eyelids were drooping, and more than a few students had given up entirely on maintaining the pretense of attention.

"The recitation of this text will be homework. Let's end here for today," the teacher announced, glancing at the wall clock just as the end-of-day bell rang.

Perfect timing. Freedom at last.

"Finally! It's over!" Okamoto practically shouted, stretching dramatically.

"You're awfully energetic," I observed, unable to suppress a yawn.

Speak for yourself, Ginjo. You're practically dead on your feet after last night's celebration.

Okamoto immediately scooted his chair closer, leaning on my desk with the intensity of someone about to share crucial intelligence.

"Because tomorrow's a holiday! Finally! I've been waiting for this forever! I'm so tired of studying hard every day! Now I can finally devote myself to my true calling—the otaku lifestyle!"

Studying hard? Really? That's the story we're going with?

"Have you ever actually studied hard?" I asked skeptically.

I've seen his study habits. 'Hard' is not the word I'd use.

"Ginjo-san, you seriously underestimate me! You'll see how powerful I am when midterm results come out!" he declared with completely unwarranted confidence.

Famous last words right there.

"Oh, by the way, there's a new underground idol debuting tomorrow. Want to come watch with me?"

And there's the real Okamoto. From academic boasting to idol worship in 2.3 seconds.

Before I could formulate a polite decline, another classmate approached wearing a distinctly troubled expression.

"What nonsense are you spouting, Okamoto?"

"Hey, what's that supposed to mean?" Okamoto asked, looking genuinely confused.

"The community theater is under construction tomorrow and the day after. All performances and activities have been suspended," the boy explained. "Didn't you read the announcement on the discussion board?"

"What?! When did this happen?! Damn it!!" Okamoto's anguished wail echoed through the classroom as he clutched his head in despair.

"Well, now the weekend's wide open. How should we spend the time?" he continued, recovering with impressive speed. "You guys want to come over to my place for video games?"

"Sure, I was wondering what to do with my weekend anyway," our classmate agreed immediately.

"What about you, Ginjo-san?" Okamoto turned to me expectantly.

Sorry, but I've got much better plans than video games.

"I'll pass. My weekend schedule is already completely booked," I replied diplomatically.

"Ah, the handsome guy really is different from us regular mortals," they both said with exaggerated jealousy. "Probably off on another date with some gorgeous lady."

"Stop complaining and go enjoy your vacation," I laughed, gathering my things as we all headed out of the classroom together.

Early Saturday morning arrived with unusually lazy sunlight that painted the entire city in warm golden hues. Birds chirped intermittently while a fresh breeze carried the promise of a perfect day.

Standing in the corridor, I stretched thoroughly, working out the lingering satisfaction from last night's activities.

When I reached the courtyard, Tomoko was already waiting, and the sight of her nearly stopped my heart.

She wore a crisp white short-sleeved blouse paired with perfectly fitted blue jeans, light makeup that enhanced her natural beauty without overdoing it. Her lustrous black hair was braided into that familiar style, falling naturally to rest against her generous curves.

The tight jeans showcased her perfectly rounded rear and shapely thighs, while light-colored sandals revealed delicate feet with toes painted in the most appealing shade of peach pink.

The outfit brought back vivid memories of our first meeting—discovering that beneath her elegant exterior lay such incredible beauty.

Who knew that first glimpse of the mysterious landlady would lead to all this?

"Let's go, Sousuke-kun," she said with that charming smile that made my imagination run absolutely wild.
