Ethan's Pokémon launched a series of attacks on Gyarados. With Jolteon's final electric attack dealing four times the damage, Gyarados could no longer take it and collapsed to the ground.
"You're going to behave now, aren't you?"
It was said that the reason Gyarados was so ferocious was that the structure of its brain cells was reconfigured during evolution, which drastically changed its personality. It would only truly settle down after becoming familiar with and acknowledging its Trainer.
Remembering that someone once said stroking the horn on Gyarados's head would make it gentle, Ethan walked over and gently stroked its hard horn with his right hand. Sure enough, its look of defiance slowly softened into one of acceptance.
After resting briefly and regaining some stamina, Ethan repacked his backpack and set off once more towards Celadon City.
However, what he didn't know was that a plot against him was already unfolding in a secret room beneath the Viridian City Gym.
In a dim room, Giovanni sat on a sofa. A cat-like Pokémon with a ruby on its forehead and a large physique lay quietly at his feet.
A knock sounded on the door, and a woman with a bob haircut and glasses walked in. Giovanni glanced at her and said, "It's Matori. What is it? Have you completed the investigation?"
Matori handed a file to Giovanni. A blurry photo of Ethan was attached to the top right corner of the file.
"The investigation is complete," Matori said. As a competent and meticulous secretary, she was naturally very efficient. "His name is Ethan, he's 20 years old, and he came to Kanto from the Kalos region half a month ago. He's been challenging various Gyms. Lambda has confirmed that he and an International Police officer were behind the S.S. Anne incident. Including the Silph Co. incident, he has obstructed us twice now."
Giovanni flipped through the file. It also contained a general overview of all of Ethan's Pokémon, including Zapdos and Haunter.
"Where is this person now?" Giovanni asked.
Matori adjusted her glasses. "Based on his travel trajectory, after leaving Saffron City, his next destination should be the Celadon Gym in Celadon City."
"Celadon City?" Giovanni frowned slightly. "Isn't that International Police officer investigating our base in Celadon City?"
Matori nodded. "That's right. He's been lurking in Celadon City for a few days now. Although we managed to shake him off, it seems he hasn't given up his search."
"We can't let them meet again. Send someone to eliminate that Trainer," Giovanni said, his tone as if he were crushing an ant. "Which of our field agents are near Celadon City now?"
Matori thought for a moment. "Besides the base's security force, all of our executives have been dispatched to the Johto region. The remaining personnel are also scattered in other cities. Only Jessie and James are currently loitering in the Celadon City area."
"Then send them," Giovanni decided. However, seeing Matori hesitate to speak, he asked, "What? Is there a problem?"
"There is a slight problem…" Matori chose her words carefully. "I'm not entirely confident in the abilities of those two. Perhaps we should dispatch my elite unit, the 'Matori Matrix'?"
"It's not necessary," Giovanni slowly lit a cigar. "Even if they fail to eliminate him, they can at least delay him for a while. Use this opportunity to have your unit deal with that rat in Celadon City first."
Celadon, the color of a dreamy, illusory rainbow.
As the second-largest city in the Kanto region, second only to Saffron City, it was famous for a university that was renowned overseas, its numerous large shopping malls, and the famous Celadon Game Corner.
Walking down the street towards the Gym, Ethan suddenly caught a whiff of a strange scent. The aroma, like a blend of many perfumes, drifted gently on the breeze, permeating the entire street.
Following the scent, Ethan looked ahead and saw a large perfume shop nestled between a few skyscrapers. His heart stirred, and he walked in.
"Welcome."
Inside the shop, several fashionably dressed female clerks were chatting at the counter. Seeing Ethan, they all chuckled.
"Are you looking to buy perfume?"
Ethan nodded. Looking at the dazzling array of perfumes, he felt a bit overwhelmed, not knowing where to start.
A girl came closer, looked him up and down, and smiled, "Is it for a girlfriend?"
"No, I don't have a girlfriend. I just want to buy a few bottles for some friends."
"Friends?" It was said that where there are three women, there is a show. The clerks, perhaps used to joking with each other, clearly didn't believe Ethan's words. They exchanged a sly smile and said mischievously, "It's probably not as simple as 'friends,' is it? Are you dating several girls at the same time?"
"That…"
Before Ethan could speak, a gentle yet somewhat authoritative voice came from behind him.
"You girls, stop making such jokes with our customers!"
Hearing the voice, the clerks immediately became much more subdued. Ethan turned around to see a beautiful girl in a kimono, with a red hairband and shoulder-length hair, walking towards them.
"Manager, what are you doing here?"
The girl said, "More perfume just arrived from the warehouse. Go and organize it. I'll take care of things here."
With that, she walked up to Ethan and bowed slightly.
"I apologize. They're used to teasing each other and sometimes don't watch what they say. Please don't take offense."
"Oh, no, not at all."
Ethan waved his hand, not taking the matter to heart. At this point, he had recognized the girl's identity. She was the Gym Leader of the Celadon Gym—Erika!
Erika walked to a shelf and asked, "So, what kind of perfume would you like to buy?"
Ethan hesitated for a moment, then described the personalities of Koharu, Misty, and Sabrina to Erika. Finally, remembering that Sakuragi Yoshino had helped him greatly, he asked Erika to help him choose a perfume for her as well.
"I see," Erika nodded, walking to a section. She introduced them, "All the perfumes in our shop are very good. But based on your descriptions, I would recommend a few of these."
Saying this, she pointed to a few perfumes in the center of the shelf.
"These are common floral perfumes, our shop's signature products. The two on the left, one is more suitable for a lively girl, while the other is better for a more quiet girl. As for the two on the right, their scents aren't very strong but are quite long-lasting. They seem to fit your requirements perfectly."
Ethan is continuing his journey, having a run-in with his rival, Gary, and now he's in Celadon City, where a plot by Giovanni has been set in motion against him. He's also met the Celadon Gym Leader, Erika, and is seeking to buy gifts for the women in his life. The story hints at a potential confrontation with Team Rocket, but Ethan is currently unaware.
What kind of perfumes will Erika recommend for Koharu, Misty, Sabrina, and Yoshino, based on their personalities? How will this purchase influence his relationship with them? And what role will Jessie and James play in Giovanni's plot to stop Ethan?
