Chapter 13 - Jack Waited and Saw

Seeing that her foot was very swollen, he said unhappily, "As a woman, you don't even know how to wear high heels. Does that sound about right?" "As a man, you kissed a woman you don't know very well for no reason, and twice in a night. Does that sound about right?"

Robert looked up at her, and a dangerous light glowed in his eyes. "We don't know each other?" "Otherwise, wouldn't we be far more familiar with each other?" Remembering that they were the only two in the car, she felt a little scared. "Other than your father, is there anyone else in this world who is more familiar with you than me? I am the first man to know you..." Before he could finish speaking, she instinctively reached out and covered his mouth with her hand. The moment her fingers touched his lips, she felt some regret.

She felt awkward for a moment and retracted her hand. "We agreed that we would never bring up that matter again." "No one wants to mention it. I'm just reminding you how familiar we are." Her face turned red again. "A woman you are familiar with, but you don't even know her name?" "Emma." "Yes," she answered instinctively and was surprised that he knew her name. "How were you so confident? Did you think I didn't know?" "Because you've never called me by my name."

"Miss Green is a respectful way to refer to you. But using only this form of your name doesn't mean that I didn't know your first name." "But you have never asked for my name. How would you know? Oh, I forgot that you met my principal yesterday. She must have told you." "When you came to my house, I saw your resume. I don't forget things after I see them." She was speechless. Anyone could find a reason to brag, but how confident did he have to be? Bragging about being able to remember something as soon as he saw it, boasting about his photographic memory. She frowned with disdain. Tom came back and got into the car. Robert said, "Let's go to the hospital."

"Yes, Mr. Erickson." Emma wanted to say something, but Robert said, "There's no reason to object." She did not want to object. She just wanted to say thank you. After all, her ankle pain was real. "What did Jack say to you just now? He made you lose your temper." She was silent. She had almost forgotten about her brother. "Why aren't you talking?" He looked at her. "I don't want to talk about this." "Does he dislike you kissing me?"

Emma looked toward Tom in the driver's seat in embarrassment and turned to glare at him. Robert asked casually, as if he didn't care, "What is your relationship with him?" She was silent for a moment and looked at him. "After Samuel finishes his college entrance exam, you and I will not have a relationship anymore. So, please, don't interfere with my personal matters in the future, and don't get too close to me. I will also forget all the... messy things that you did tonight. I hope you won't have another opportunity."

Hearing her say this, Robert's originally good mood was instantly covered by a dark cloud. This woman stood between him and Jack Meyer and actually chose Jack. Very well, if she insisted on acting like this, he would not let her off easily. After all, he has disliked Jack for a long time. One day, she would have to choose him, and right in front of Jack. He smiled. He didn't believe that he couldn't conquer this little wild cat with sharp claws. Jack, just you wait and see.

Robert carried Emma out of the hospital. The doctor said that after the swelling in her ankle had subsided, she had to be careful; because after one twist, it was very easy to twist the ankle again. After taking the medicine, she originally wanted to hobble and walk out. But in the end, he picked her up and carried her out of the hospital under the watchful eyes of everyone. Emma's face was buried in Robert's shoulder the entire time.

It wasn't because she was comforted by his display, but because she was embarrassed, hoping no one would see them this way. When they returned to the Erickson family villa, Robert carried her into his bedroom in front of Clark. Robert said to Clark, "In the future, ask Samuel to come here to look for Miss Green for their tutoring sessions. In addition, arrange for Tom to pick Miss Green up in a car until her feet are healed." "Mr. Erickson, my ankle pain is not that serious. I don't need to trouble Tom anymore. Furthermore..." "You only sprained your ankle because you accompanied me to the banquet hall. I should be responsible for it. Clark, take good care of Miss Green." After he finished speaking, he left her room. Clark said respectfully, "Yes, Mr. Erickson."

The next day, Tom drove Emma right up to the school gate. She was really under pressure. When she got out of the car, she saw Jack and his Porsche at the school gate. Many passing students were secretly taking pictures of the Porsche. Jack ignored them and walked towards Emma. Emma looked away and accepted the cane Tom offered her. "Tom, thank you, you can go. I'll make it inside by myself." Tom got into the car and left. Jack walked over to meet her. Looking at the bandage on her foot, his face was full of worry. "Emma, what's wrong with your feet?"

"I accidentally fell." Her expression was calm. "Does it hurt?" He bent down and was about to check when she turned her body away from him. "It doesn't hurt." Seeing that she was very polite to him, he stood up and looked at her. "Are you still angry with your big brother?" Emma lowered her eyes. "What do I have to be angry about?" Jack sighed and gently took hold of her shoulders. "Alright, Emma. I know what I said hurt you yesterday, and after you left angry, I really felt very uncomfortable. You are my baby sister, do you understand?"

Seeing his sad expression, Emma also felt a weird sadness in her heart. After all, in the Meyer family, Jack was the only one who treated her like family. Just as she wanted to say something, her phone rang. She took her phone out of her bag and looked at the screen. She saw a number that had no name with it. The number was both familiar and unfamiliar. She glanced at Jack, turned around, and answered the phone. "Hello." "Make some time to meet me today." "Sir, you called the wrong number, right? I don't know you." "Emma Meyer," he berated. "Do you have any manners? How dare you talk to me like this?"

Emma clenched her fists. She said, "You're wrong. My name is Emma Green. Back then, when my mother wanted to register me and change my name to Emma Meyer, Mr. Meyer strongly opposed it. Also, in the future, please don't call me again. I don't know who you are. Goodbye." After she finished speaking, she ended the call. Jack looked at her. He was worried. "It's Dad," he said. Emma's face was cold. "I don't have a dad. Also, your surname is Meyer, and my surname is Green. Don't say that I'm your sister. Don't ever come find me again. I don't want to have anything to do with the Meyer family anymore."

Watching Emma stubbornly leave, Jack knew that she was really angry. Before she calmed down, he was afraid that whatever he said would be useless. He sighed and could only stand there and watch her walk into the school. The entire day, Emma was restless.. Ted heard that she showed up with a cane. At noon, he looked for her all over the campus. Finally, he found her reading on the stone steps beside the school's sports arena.

From afar, Ted felt like he was seeing a past version of Emma. Where they had arranged to meet, and just like back then, she would arrive early and wait for him while she studied. And before meeting her, he would prepare the snacks she liked and rush to meet her on time. Back in the present, he calmed his breathing, which had gone short from running just now. He slowly walked towards her and sat opposite her. Hearing the sound, she raised her head to look at him. He was looking at her ankle and frowned. "Why are you so careless?" He wanted to reach out and touch her foot, but she naturally moved her leg away.

"Emma, let's make up, okay? Huh? I really don't want to continue like this. Without you, my life feels empty, stagnant. Let's get married, okay? I swear that I will never betray you again. I will really be good to you." Emma looked into his deep and sad eyes and was silent for a long time. Ted leaned forward and half-knelt in front of her and held her hands. "Emma, don't give up on me. In the past, you told me that I took 99 steps towards you, so the last step was for you to take. Now, I am willing to start from the beginning. As long as you stand still and don't move, the remaining 100 steps will all be for me to take. Okay?" "I'm sleeping with another man." She looked at him calmly. "Don't make me angry like this. Emma, I know you. You wouldn't do such a thing."

"It's true. The day I found you guys sleeping together, I slept with another man." She laughed. "Although I regret using this method to take revenge on you, at this moment, I feel lucky, because I left myself no path of retreat. I can't return to you. So, no matter how pitiful you look, I cannot turn back now." "Emma." Ted gritted his teeth. "Don't be like this." "You don't have to believe me. But every word I say is true. Ted, since we've broken up, I don't think we can be friends. I won't pester you, and I hope you won't pester me anymore. Let's be dignified about this. It's better to be strangers than enemies, isn't it?" "You..." Ted's eyes were full of doubt.

He could not believe she would do that. However, her expression did not reveal any lies. Ted stood up and looked down at her. "Did you really sleep with someone else?" Emma held the book tighter. "Yes." Ted gritted his teeth. "I've been with you for so long. You didn't even let me kiss you, but you slept with another man? Emma, you... you disappoint me." Ted left in anger. Emma's heart clouded over with a dark emotion.

However, she lowered her eyes and smiled. She was already at her lowest point, right? Things couldn't really get any worse, right? After she was released from school in the afternoon, she left with her cane. When she walked to the school gate, she saw Tom not far away. Just as she was about to go over, she was suddenly blocked by a black Audi parked outside the school gate. Two men got out of the car. They lifted her up and stuffed her into the car. Then, they left.
