Chapter 31 - Incompetent Lachlan Stokes

After Esther left the venue—the tension which built up in the hall slowly disappeared. Andy, who was gritting in anger, slowly calmed down—after all Esther was just some insignificant ant, which she could crush down. Right now, her truimp card was Lilith Lee. If she is able to get Lilith Lee as a backer—who would dare offend her. Her once pale face slowly lit up— as she stared at the handsome man upstairs who had a stoic expression on. Lachlan Strokes is a powerful and unapproachable figure in society. If she is able to get Lachlan Strokes as a boyfriend, her life would slowly change. With such thoughts—Andy got up and approached — Lachlan booth. Her face was retouched with makeup, and her once whitish-pink dress changed into a stunning blue fishtail dress that accentuated her curves.

...

Esther, after leaving the Wang Halls, called her driver. Arriving at a five-star reserved room—she changed her dress immediately. Standing in the mirror—she admired her beauty before slipping the wolf mask on. "Let's go—"She replied to her driver, who was awestruck by her beauty. He nodded before starting the car. The car immediately came to live before it disappeared in the dark mist. At the venue, Esther walked into the banquet, catching the guest by surprise.

As she walked into the halls—the soft touch of light made her skin glow and shimmer, making her alluring and dazzling. She wore a deep v neck black spaghetti strapped dress, which was paired with a six-length heel and her captivating wolf mask. Her chestnut hair cascaded down her exposed fair shoulders, which had a pearl hairpin in it. As she walked, her fair legs were revealed, adding to unparalleled beauty.

"Welcome, Miss. Lan." Mr. Ibarra—Andy's dad greeted, flashing a warm smile revealing his white set of teeth. Lilith Lan instinctively bowed but still held an emotionless expression, which didn't go unnoticed. "Your seat is right here—"

They escorted Lilith Lan to her seat, which had her label on it. Now that she had arrived, the party could go as planned. It so happened that Lilth seat was right beside Lachlan Strokes, and in front of her was Lucian Strokes.

The room fell silent as everyone watched Lilith Lan take her seat, their eyes fixed on the powerful and mysterious woman. As Lilith Lan sat down, she glanced at Lachlan, her expression unreadable.Lilith Lan stared at Lachlan, who looked different after years had passed. He had become much more handsome and attractive although he was cute during childhood now he was more than the word cute. Dressed in a blue wangyue 3 piece men's suit, which hugged his body and showed his matured muscle and body, he emanated an aura of authority and maturity. His usually messy hair was now in a short, wavy hairstyle, which made his cold emerald eyes eye-catching.

Ahem -" Lucian coughed, trying to bring Lilith Lan back to the present. Everyone seemed to notice her prolonged stare on Lachlan. But even though she was caught in the act—she didn't show any sign of embarrassment and remained more aloof.

"Lilith Lan, you should know that our Lachlan here is taken," Lucian added, drawing attention from both Lilith and Lachlan.

"Oh, I see, but what made you think I am interested in him," Lilith replied coldly, not hiding the underlying statement that Lachlan couldn't woo her—even if he tried.

"I-I just wanted to remind you," Lucian feeling defeated replied shyly.

"Well then thanks—but I do really feel pity on the girl who would date him," she retorted, her words filled with hostility, which she didn't hide at all. She wanted it to be known that she hated Lachlan to the core.

"Pity!? Any girl who marries Lachlan would be lucky. Where is pity? With the riches Lachlan has, which mistress of his would suffer," Lucian argued, feeling infuriated that a stranger would dare boldly insult his sister and brother and that in front of him.

"Lachlan is nothing but a pretty face—as for wealth—he inherited it from his family. Without wealth or power, who is Lachlan Strokes. A complete nobody—if your Lachlan is so great as you claim, how come he didn't announce his relationship with his girlfriend. Is he embarrassed by her, or is he really incapable of getting a girlfriend. Don't tell me your Lachlan has troubles as a man."

This theory made Lucian off the edge as he slammed his hands on the table. How dare she? He wouldn't just sit quiet and let Lilith taunt his brother.

Her words reverberated in the ears of the others—and almost all the hall had heard her words. They all understood what Lilith meant.

Instead of getting angry, Lachlan simply smiled and replied, "If you doubt my capabilities as a man, how about you give it a try, Miss. Lee."

His words shocked everyone, where was—the Lachlan that everyone knew. The cold, ruthless bachelor—who was sitting in front of them. Is this an impostor or the other side of Lachlan.

His flirtatious side was really as daring as his personality. He didn't even hesitate to ask for a night.

This made the single girls who had come to see Lachlan face flushed. If only they were proposed like this by Lachlan, they wouldn't hesitate to say 'yes' Even Esther was startled but regained composure glaring daggers at Lachlan. How dare he flirt with her and so openly.

"You lowly disgusting scumbag of a man, how dare you flirt with me," Lilith cursed, her voice filled with danger and malice. Lachlan furrowed his brows as he stared into her blue intoxicating eyes. He would never mistake those pair of eyes for anyone. He knew who was behind the mask but pretended to remain nonchalant.

"Where did I go wrong? You were questioning my manhood, and now I am giving you the permission you find that to be a flirt. Women are always going to be difficult creatures –" Lachlan dramatically sighed, acting as if he had been hurt. This made the guest astounded. Was this their rumoured Lachlan Strokes.

Lilith was lost for words—she was totally out of backup, so she remained silent. This silence made Lucian satisfied that an incompetence as Lilith Lee should be put in place.

Out of the blue—Andy Ibarra approached their booth. She had a fixed smile walking in with confidence. Esther raised a brow—wondering if Andy is thick skinned that the humiliation she endured wasn't big enough or if she was just so agitated to jump into trouble again.

"Hi Lachlan Strokes, I am Andy Ibarra, the birthday girl," Andy sweetly exclaimed, twirling her hair with her hand. She acted so sweetly and innocent that no one would believe she tried framing someone an hour ago.

"Andy Ibarra??" Lachlan tasted the name in his mouth-a cruel smile appeared on his lips." Ain't you the girl who framed someone not so long ago."

Andy face turned pale with embarrassment. She was choked on all her words—unable to come back with a reasonable excuse. The guests started to murmur, and the atmosphere became awkward.

Lilith, who had been silent until now, looked at Andy with a mixture of amusement and disdain. "You're the one who framed Esther?" she asked, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
