Alice places the book on the table before reaching for the hilt of her sword.

The person outside doesn't knock again.
Several moments pass without another sound. It is possible that they might've left.
I take a step closer, but Alice immediately reaches out and grabs my arm.
"What are you doing?" Alice whispers.
"Checking if he's still there," I answer quietly.
"Eron told us not to answer" Alice says with a serious tone.
"I'm not answering," I assure her.
