After school, I found myself wandering back to the garden where I had faced that horrifying, slimy monster. It wasn't planned—I didn't know why my feet carried me there. Yet, here I stood, in the very spot where I thought my life might end.
The garden looked ordinary in the daylight, its beauty masking the terrifying memories it held. I sat down on the cool grass and stared up at the sky. The stars were beginning to emerge, twinkling faintly as night fell.
Lying on my back, I let my thoughts drift. The stars were beautiful, but they always felt like they were hiding something—something vast and unreachable. My heart ached with longing.
"I wish my life were more exciting," I whispered to the open sky.
At that moment, a shooting star streaked across the heavens, its light cutting through the darkness like a blade.
Without hesitation, I clasped my hands together, closed my eyes, and made a wish:
"I wish to have the adventure of a lifetime."
I opened my eyes slowly, exhaling a soft breath. It was just a wish, after all. Wishes didn't come true.
Or so I thought.
Far away, in the depths of the galaxy...
On a distant planet, in the headquarters of the former Guardians of the Galaxy, an urgent meeting was taking place. The ancient hall was grand, its high ceilings adorned with constellations that glimmered like living stars. The council of old Guardians gathered around a large, glowing stone that pulsed with an ethereal blue light.
Suddenly, the stone's surface shifted, revealing a holographic screen. The room fell silent as an ancient voice, deep and resonant, began to speak:
"The time has come," it declared. "The last Guardian has been chosen. They reside on a planet called Earth."
The Guardians exchanged puzzled glances. "How will we find them?" one asked.
"The bracelet has chosen," the voice continued. "The one who wears it has the ability to see the unknown and embrace it."
Another Guardian stepped forward, skeptical. "How can we be sure?"
"The signs are clear," the stone replied. "You must find them. The fate of the galaxy depends on it."
The light from the stone dimmed, signaling the end of the message. The Guardians stood in solemn silence, their task clear. Orders were sent to the palace to assemble a team of five Guardians to travel to Earth and find the last Guardian.
Unbeknownst to me, the adventure I had wished for was already in motion.
Back on Earth, I was still lying in the garden, staring at the stars, unaware of the storm heading my way. My phone buzzed in my pocket, pulling me from my thoughts.
It was a message from Mom:
"I'll be late tonight, dear. Order some pizza. I left money on the table. Love you."
I sighed, sitting up and brushing the dirt off my clothes. As I walked home, my thoughts drifted to the golden-eyed stranger. He was so striking, so... different. A part of me hoped I'd see him again, even though it seemed impossible.
When I got home, I ordered pizza, turned on the TV, and flipped through the channels. Nothing caught my attention. Eventually, boredom won, and I decided to go to bed early.
The next morning, my alarm jolted me awake. I groaned, realizing I'd overslept. Two math classes down the drain. I scrambled to get ready and rushed to school, praying I wouldn't miss more.
When I arrived, the hallways were buzzing with excitement. Whispers about new students filled the air.
Curious, I hurried to my classroom. Inside, I noticed them immediately—a group of five I didn't recognize. One of them, a boy with piercing eyes, was staring at me. His gaze was intense, almost as if he knew me.
The rest of the day passed uneventfully, though I couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. During lunch, I sat alone, as always. But this time, the boy from class walked over and sat across from me.
Moments later, four others joined him.
I raised an eyebrow, laughing nervously. "Are you who I think you are?"
They exchanged smiles but said nothing.
"Your appearance has changed," I continued. "If I hadn't seen you before, I wouldn't have recognized you. So, what are you doing here?"
"We're here for you," the boy said simply.
"For me?" I repeated, incredulous. "Well, congratulations—you found me. Now what?"
"Let's go somewhere private," he said.
Reluctantly, I followed them to a secluded spot outside the school grounds. Once we were alone, they dropped their disguises. Their appearances shifted, revealing their true forms:
Ralph, with gray skin and white hair, spoke first. "I am Ralph."Zola, purple-skinned with pink hair, introduced herself next.Yuria, with gray skin and jet-black hair, nodded at me.Corby, blue-skinned with green hair, gave me a small smile. Finally, the golden-eyed boy stepped forward. "I'm Liam."
"Well, I'm Lina," I said, crossing my arms. "A human, as far as I know."
Liam's gaze fell to my wrist. "That bracelet," he said softly. "Where did you get it?"
"It was a gift from my father," I replied. "He died a long time ago."
Liam's hand rested gently on my shoulder. "I knew it when I first saw you. You're special."
I shrugged off his hand. "Thanks, but I have no idea what you're talking about. If you're done playing games, I'm going home."
Without waiting for a response, I turned and walked away.
When I got home, I was startled to find my mom sitting in the living room with a stranger. Her face was pale, her eyes filled with tears.
"Mom, what's wrong?" I asked.
She hesitated before speaking. "Lina... I thought this day would never come. I hoped you wouldn't be chosen."
"Chosen for what?" I asked, confused.
The stranger stepped forward. "I was a friend of your father's," he said. "Your father was a Guardian. He sacrificed himself to save us ten years ago."
I stared at him, my mind reeling.
"We kept you hidden to protect you," he continued. "But the bracelet has chosen you. You're the last Guardian. With you and the others united, we can save the galaxy from destruction."
Overwhelmed, I stumbled out of the house, needing air. My thoughts swirled in chaos. Why now? Why me?
I ran to the park, the very place where this all began. The stars above seemed to mock me, shining brightly as my world turned upside down.
To be continued...
