Chapter 39 - Chapter 39: Damn you, Kitazawa!

Kitazawa returned home.

He sat down on the sofa and took out the ninjutsu scroll Hiruzen Sarutobi had given him as a reward — Wind Release: Vacuum Sphere, a B‑rank technique in terms of learning difficulty.

How should he put it?

Although it was the same Wind Release jutsu, the level of detail on this scroll was nowhere near that of the Vacuum Sphere scroll he had received from the system.

In short, there was nothing particularly noteworthy about it.

The sun set and rose again.

A new day began.

Kitazawa opened his eyes and stretched lazily.

It was Saturday, so he did not have to work at the Ninja Academy, but that did not mean he had any less to do.

Besides finding a teacher for Naruto Uzumaki, he also needed to discuss Kurama Yakumo's next genjutsu session with Kurenai Yuhi.

Just then, someone knocked on the door.

Kitazawa paused, changed his clothes, and went to the entrance.

When the door opened, a dazzling splash of red met his eyes.

Kurenai Yuhi was wearing an off‑shoulder crimson dress with a low neckline; her snow‑white skin trembled slightly as she breathed.

Kitazawa instinctively stole a glance. Not exactly small, he thought.

"Why are you standing there in a daze? Am I not welcome?"

Kurenai asked with a teasing smile.

"How could I dare be unwelcome?"

Kitazawa took the bag from her hands. "A great beauty has come to my home; I must be extremely lucky today."

"You still know how to flatter," Kurenai laughed.

She stepped to the shoe cabinet and bent down to remove her shoes.

Below her skirt, her calves were sheathed in black stockings, perfectly smooth without an ounce of extra flesh.

"I'm only telling the truth," Kitazawa replied. He glanced at the bag. "Why is it alcohol?"

"Why can't it be alcohol?"

Kurenai's stocking‑clad feet thudded softly against the floor.

"You drink in the morning?"

Kitazawa followed her. "Too much alcohol is bad for your health."

"This isn't for the morning; it's for tonight."

Kurenai walked to the sofa.

Starting at her round hips, she smoothed the dress straight and then sat down gracefully.

"Tonight?"

Kitazawa chuckled. "Planning on eating two meals at my place today?"

"It's called reciprocity," Kurenai said, sitting primly with her legs together. "Do you remember how many meals you've had at my house?"

"So what will it be — Ichiraku ramen, or shall I cook?"

Kitazawa set the bottle on the coffee table and sat opposite her.

"Your cooking, of course," Kurenai said, touching her chin. "I've hardly tasted anything you've made."

"Don't get your hopes up," Kitazawa spread his hands. "The taste is merely passable."

"I'm not picky."

Kurenai produced two scrolls. "Shall we study genjutsu now?"

"Give me half an hour," Kitazawa said, standing. "I need to step out."

"Alright."

Kurenai didn't mind; she took out a pen. "I'll start reviewing."

"Mm‑hmm."

Kitazawa changed shoes and left.

On the way, he bought two pieces of bread for breakfast.

He had never been to Naruto Uzumaki's home, but the student records listed the address.

Soon he arrived at an old‑looking two‑story house.

Kitazawa raised his hand and knocked.

"Kitazawa‑sensei?"

The door opened to reveal Naruto in a tight green jumpsuit, his face full of surprise and delight.

"Heading out somewhere?"

Kitazawa tugged at the corner of his mouth at the outfit.

"I've been going on morning runs with Uncle Guy and Lee," Naruto answered.

Lee?

Kitazawa raised an eyebrow. Looks like his reminder worked — Might Guy had accepted Rock Lee as a student and begun training.

"Your run is canceled for today," Kitazawa explained. "I'm taking you to meet a ninja who's an expert in the Transformation Technique."

"Is he strong?"

Naruto asked curiously.

"'Strong' isn't the point. He's a rare, special kind of ninja," Kitazawa said with a smile. "He's mastered a thousand jutsu and can craft a Transformation Technique just for you."

"Really?"

Naruto's eyes lit up. Ever since Kitazawa had told him stories about Madara Uchiha, he'd had plenty of wild ideas about transformation.

"Have I ever lied to you?" Kitazawa asked.

"No."

Naruto scratched his head, a little embarrassed.

"Let's go."

Kitazawa patted his shoulder and started off.

"Wait for me!"

Naruto shut the door and hurried after him.

"If you have any ideas for the transformation, tell him freely. Don't hold back," Kitazawa reminded.

"Okay, Kitazawa‑sensei."

Naruto nodded, then hesitated. "Will he… hate me?"

Although life at the Academy had been fun lately, outside it he was still the target of people's hatred.

"He won't," Kitazawa said, pausing before adding, "His name is Kakashi Hatake. He's a good friend of Might Guy."

Naruto felt much relieved; in his mind, anyone who could be Guy's friend had to be a good person.

Training with Guy for a while had given him a sense of shared hardship: Guy's eccentric behavior made him unpopular — just like Naruto himself.

Another knock echoed.

Kakashi Hatake stood up instinctively and looked toward the door.

He already guessed who it was, but for some reason a rare trace of nervousness stirred in his heart.

He hadn't seen Naruto Uzumaki since Minato Namikaze's death.

Kakashi exhaled and opened the door.

His gaze fell instantly on Naruto, especially that golden hair.

"Kakashi," Kitazawa introduced, "this is Naruto Uzumaki."

"Kakashi‑sensei! Hello!"

Naruto, ever friendly, greeted him excitedly.

Sensei…?

The familiar honorific made Kakashi momentarily dazed. After two seconds he collected himself.

"Mm."

Kakashi answered calmly.

"I'll leave you two to talk," Kitazawa said. "I've other matters to handle."

After Kitazawa left, Kakashi turned into the living room. "So, I hear you want to develop a new Transformation Technique?"

"Yeah!"

Naruto nodded vigorously. "Kakashi‑sensei, can you help me?"

"It's no trouble," Kakashi said confidently. "What's your idea?"

"I want to transform into a gorgeous woman to distract the enemy!"

Naruto declared with enthusiasm.

"¿"

Kakashi froze, a question mark practically appearing over his head.

Is that really a proper idea?

Who taught you this? Jiraiya‑sama? The Hokage?

"Kakashi‑sensei," Naruto continued, remembering something Kitazawa had said, "do you know what a really beautiful and sexy woman looks like?"

Kakashi opened his mouth but had no idea what to say.

A thousand thoughts condensed into one silent cry:

Kitazawa, you've made life so hard for me!
