Chapter 27 - Season 2: The Last Hope

The FSM taught Nalia all kinds of languages; it came in handy here.

Wow, character growth for Nalia. If she were still little, she would have acted differently.

*The ninjas are "practicing" their new powers on the shore of the Island.*

"Order up. Coconut cream pie. Served well done!" Kai uses his Fire on a coconut projectile. Everyone groans and laughs.

"It is good to have our powers back." said Zane.

"Yup, you're right. And since we've all been working on our witty quips to follow every cool thing we do, I'd say we got this final battle in the bag. Or should I say..." Jay signals Cole to launch another coconut. "...I'd be shocked if we lose!" He uses his Lightning on the coconut. He laughs as it explodes.

"Oh, brother," said Nalia, shaking her head, watching this and knowing what was coming next by the looks of it.

"Enough! Are you trying to reveal our hidden location?" said Wu sternly.

"Uh, sorry, Sensei. We were just practicing our cool new Elemental Blades." said Kai.

"And our witty quips." said Jay.

"Be wary of overconfidence, ninjas. While it is true your powers can defeat the , only Lloyd alone has the power to defeat Garmadon. When it is all over, then we will see who laughs last." said Wu.

"Yes, Sensei." said the ninjas.

Nalia sighed at this as she sat down and tried checking her staff a little more, but she noticed a lot of cracks on it. "I'm surprised it hasn't broken yet by my strength, but it can only take a few more hits before it breaks."

*In the distance, Dr. Julien is repairing the Falcon while Lloyd watches.*

"Every cog, every gear is important. If one piece is missing, or out of place, the invention won't work." Julien closes the Falcon's panel. "Come now, little one. Time to fly." The Falcon flies to the ninjas.

"It is like you ninja. You each serve very important roles, and are key parts to a magnificent fighting force." said Wu.

Cole spots a "coconut," unaware it's the Falcon. "Eat dirt, scumbag!" He projected his Earth.

Zane gasps and counters it with his Ice. "That is not a coconut!"

"Nice reflexes." said Cole as the Falcon squawks and lands on Zane's arm.

"Good to have you back, old friend." said Zane.

"If we're all gears, what if I'm the gear that doesn't work? What if I don't do my part? What if I can't defeat my father?" Lloyd questioned.

"What if there are no more "What-ifs"? The Final Battle is almost upon us. When that time comes, we will know the answer to what ifs whether we like it or not." said Wu.

Nalia looked over at Lloyd. She took his hand and gave him a soft smile as she walked over, which seemed to cheer him up a little.

"I know you don't want to face your father, but there is no other choice." said Nya.

"But perhaps there is. I used to think it was inevitable, but the I found this." Misako shows them a scroll.

"You mean Lloyd doesn't have to fight? This I gotta hear." said Cole.

"Oh, this could be good news," said Nalia, smiling at Lloyd.

"The scrolls say that when the Helmet of Darkness is bequeathed to its rightful ruler, the Celestial Clock will count down to the activation of an unspeakable weapon. The first sign that the Final Battle between good and evil has begun." Misako explained.

"Did you just say "unspeakable weapon?" Kai asked.

"Uh, I'm still stuck on what "bequeathed" means." said Jay.

"Same here, what does "bequeathed" mean?" Nalia questioned.

"Go on, Misako. Don't let us interrupt you. How do we stop the Final Battle?" said Cole.

"There is nothing here that explains what would happen if the Helmet of Darkness is returned." said Misako.

"Interesting. Remove the helmet, the clock starts. Put it back, the clock stops." said Wu.

"And the Final Battle never starts." said Lloyd.

"Bequeathed, anyone? Is anybody gonna help me and Lia out with that?" Jay asked.

Kai ignores Jay. "Uh, that sounds great and all, and I know we have our new powers, but you expect us to get past his whole army of Stone Warriors and pluck the helmet off his head?"

"My brother's right. They're good, but they're not that good." said Nya.

"I know. And that is why I am going to do it. I'll just need a little help." Misako calls the ninjas to the side. "In order to get past their guards, we need to first get control..."

"I'm sorry, Lloyd. This mission isn't for you." said Wu.

"But I'm all powered up; I can help. And what about Nalia?" said Lloyd.

"We mustn't let you and your father come face to face yet. We're trying to prevent the Final Battle, not welcome it." Wu explained with a sigh. "Nalia has regained most of her strength, so she should be able to handle herself with the ninjas."

"Yes, Sensei." said Lloyd, letting out a sigh.

"Don't be upset, Lloyd," said Nalia, walking over to him after listening to Misako's plan. "I know you wanna help too, but I have to agree with Sensei Wu. We can't risk you two starting the final battle."

"I know... but I just hate that I can't do anything else but just sit and wait while you guys do all of the heavy work," said Lloyd, taking her hands as he rubbed his thumb over her knuckles. "And I don't know what I'd do if something happened to you, Lia."

Nalia began blushing a little at this but gave him a shy smile. "Whatever happens, we'll figure it out together, Lloydie, like always."

*The Army opens the gates to let in Misako, led by the ninjas and Nalia disguised as Stone Warriors.*

Misako grunts. "Unhand me, you fiends!"

"Unt tin Klata vu!" (Where did you find her?) Kozu asked.

"Uh, what did he say?" Cole whispered.

"I don't know!" Kai whispered.

"I believe it is an ancient language." Zane whispered.

"Well, somebody say something." Cole whispered.

Nalia cleared her throat and spoke in a deeper voice. "Mfg qwo Lda fgbo." (We caught her sneaking around in the forest.)

The ninjas looked over at Nalia in surprise.

Kozu seemed pleased as he gave a nod.

"That's right, you caught me. But I'll never tell you where our base is. And you won't hear another peep out of me, unless you take me to Garmadon." said Misako, but Kozu growls loudly and Misako is taken to Garmadon.

"I didn't know you understood what he said to us." said Cole.

"How did you make your voice go that deep?" Jay asked.

"Not easy *cough* it hurts my voice a bit when I try making it deeper." said Nalia.

"Anyway, how about we work on more witty quips." said Kai.

"How about this? It's "ice" to see you." said Zane.

"Uh, I don't know. I feel like you could do better." said Jay.

"I swear I've heard that before." said Cole.

Nalia facepalmed. "Oh, mangos, not this again."

"Ugh. I feel like a clunky mule in this thing." said Kai.

"Tuzo tong!" (Get working!) said Kozu who had seen that they wasn't working.

"Uh, is he talking to us?" Kai asked.

"Fgo bpdf." (You got it, boss.) said Nalia in her deeper voice and began pushing the others again. "He wants us to get working."

*The ninjas run to the Garmatron, to get to work. While Misako and Garmadon are still having their conversation.*

"So you know where our son is hiding, but I suspect you won't give him up that easily." Garmadon grabs a sword. "I know you too well, Misako. Why did you allow yourself to get caught?"

"Because I know you don't want to fight as much as Lloyd doesn't want to fight." said Misako.

"Lloyd doesn't want to fight—uh, I mean, so Lloyd doesn't want to fight?" Garmadon laughs.

"If you're still the man I once loved, I know you'd never want to see him harmed." said Misako.

"But it is foretold. It is our destiny. I don't care about him. I only care about turning Ninjago into my own image." said Garmadon.

"Then you're not the man I married. I should go." Misako turns around.

"No! Don't." Garmadon takes his helmet off. "Misako, I may look different, and evil may now course through my veins, but I am still the man standing before you." He puts the helmet on a mannequin's head. "I want you to rule by my side."

*The ninjas and Nalia are forced to bring Dark Matter to the Garmatron.*

"Aw, man! No matter how many bad situations we get ourselves out of, we never seem to be able to escape chores!" said Jay.

"What is that thing?" Cole asked, notcing the Garmatron.

"It must be the unspeakable weapon Misako was talking about." said Zane.

"I don't like the looks of it." said Nalia.

"Look, guys. An elevator. Sweet." said Cole.

"Soya!" (Do not take the elevator! Take the stairs!) said Kozu.

"He is saying we can't take the elevator." Nalia told them.

Cole rolled his eyes. "Ah. Relax, relax. Forget it. Sheesh, what is wrong with these guys?"

"I don't know about you, but that just looked like some sort of massive cannon." said Kai.

"What do you suppose it's for?" Zane asked.

"Oh, I don't know. How about to destroy us?" Jay suggested.

"Tun meta! TUN META!!" A stone scout bonks Cole.

"Okay, I have no idea what he just said." Nalia raised her hands in defense.

"Hey, why don't you bonk someone your own size, half-stack?" said Cole.

"Tun meta!" gets kicked off the platform.

"That guy seriously had it coming." said Cole.

"Looks likes our cover just got blown." said Nalia.

"Ninja, go!" They use their Spinjitzu to change into their gi.

"At least we get to break the ice!" Zane uses Ice to make the floor slippery for the Army.

"Haha. Nice one, Zane!" said Kai.

"Now you're cooking with gas. Or should I say, electricity!" Jay shocks a few with Lightning. "Going down?"

"Time to make these guys into knuckle sandwiches," said Nalia, pulling out her staff and knocking over some of them.

The ninjas looked over at her.

"Hey, I'm not the best with coming up with good witty quips." said Nalia.

"Save some lines for us, Jay. I wouldn't want us to bowl over the competition." Cole uses a rope to swing in a crows of Scouts, but missed. "Oh, this is bad. This is really really—" He slams into some barrels. "Bad."

"Let's get Misako and get out of here!" said Kai.

"Ninja, go!" They knock a few more Warriors off.

*Now with the helmet unsupervised, Misako takes the chance to steal it.*

Garmadon sighs "Misako, I'm glad you finally understand me. Not many people do, you see." Misako sneaks toward his helmet. Garmadon groans. "Being evil these days is really unappreciated. But you...I always knew I could count on you." Misako takes the helmet and the alarm rings. "Huh? You deceived me? Stop her!"

"You got the helmet!" said Zane.

"And you got spotted!" said Misako.

"Cole gave us away." said Jay.

"Yeah, had you guys let me handle the talking, I'm sure we could have avoided this," said Nalia.

"All right, I've had a rough day. Can we stop laying blame, and focus on what's in front of us?" said Cole.

Kai hears rumbling behind them. "Maybe we should worry about what's behind us."

"Oh, mangos." said Nalia.

Garmadon on the Stone Army Samurai Mech. "Cut them down to size." He laughs and swings a sword at them.

"If we do not return the helmet before the clock strikes zero, we won't be able to prevent the final battle." said Misako.

"Don't worry, I'm on top of it! Yah, whooo!" Jay jumps, but the Mech throws him up. Jay screams as he's being slammed on the ground. "Oh, maybe not. Ugh."

"Jay!" Nalia was getting worried seeing any of them getting hurt.

"Didn't mama ever teach him the bigger they are, the harder they fall?" Cole uses his Earth, but Garmadon deflected the rocks. "Oh, apparently she did."

Kai uses his Fire but the mech is not flammable. "Oh, great."

"Bye, bye!" said Garmadon.

"Ugh, well, we better think of something fast, because...I'm out of lines!" said Kai.

Nalia narrowed her eyes at him, and quickly make a wall of sand.

"Hey!" said Kai, when Nya, piloting the Earth Driller, arrives and saves them.

"Whoa, it's Nya!" said Jay.

Nya trips Garmadon, buying them some time. "Hey, guys!"

"How did you know we needed you?" Jay asked.

"Look up." Nya points to the Falcon. "Get in! Hang on." She digs underground.

"Don't just stand there! Get them!" said Garmadon.

"You fool! You let them get away with the helmet? Don't you realize if they put it on, they will control the Army?" said the Overlord.

"I'll see to it personally. It's my turn." said Garmadon.

"Heh, cool hat. I wonder if it'll make me look more menacing." Jay puts it on.

Nalia was sitting away from the others, very worried and scared. "I know I felt it, his even power... the Overlord is here..... I can't be here, he can't know I'm here, oh mangos. I should have listened to the old man's words and stayed back."

"Is that really wise? If that helmet turns you evil, we're kicking you out." said Nya.

"Uh, is that possible? Uh, it's probably got Garmadon cooties anyway." said Jay.

*A little while later.*

"Did we get the helmet?" Wu asked.

"We did, and we're all accounted for." said Nya.

"Then let's rendezvous at the clock." said Wu.

"It's so dark in here. One of these have got to be a light switch." Jay presses a few buttons and screams when he sees a swordsman.

"Uh, sis, can we go any faster?" Kai asked.

"We're going as fast as we can." said Nya.

"We're definitely not going fast enough." said Cole.

"Nalia, are you okay?" Zane asked, as he had noticed her sitting further away, and looking scared.

"I....." Nalia bit her lower lip. She didn't want to lie, but if she told them, it might make them more worried. "Just do as Momo taught you; if you can't tell a lie, then avoid it with a different but still honest answer," she thought to herself as she took a deep breath. "I'm just worried, is all."

"That's understandable, but don't worry, Lia, everything is gonna be alright." said Cole.

"Okay." said Nya as they go above ground.

"We're losing them!" said Jay.

"Whoo-hoo!" cheered Kai.

"Excellent." said Zane.

"Awesome!" cheered Nya.

Zane realizes Garmadon still has his mech. "Uh, oops."

"You won't get away from me again, Misako." said Garmadon.

"Hang on! Have we lost him?" Nya asked.

"Not quite!" said Kai.

Everyone screams as they're thrown onto a tree.

Nya tries to break the glass. "Ugh! It's stuck!" Garmadon grabs them.

"I think I'm gonna be sick." said Cole.

"Oh, mangos." said Nalia.

"Lia, that isn't helping my case." said Cole.

"Sorry, Cole." said Nalia.

"I finally have you, Ninjas, in the palm of my hand." Garmadon laughs.

"Let them go!" Lloyd shoots the mech with Energy.

"Ow!"

"Lloyd!" shouted Nalia relieved.

"Lloyd, be careful." said Nya.

Garmadon gets out of his broken mech, too weak to fight back.

"Holy cannoli, Lloyd and Garmadon in a face-off! Take the shot, Lloyd!" shouted Jay.

"He's vulnerable!" shouted Cole.

"Do not hesitate!" shouted Zane.

"Strike now!" shouted Kai.

"No, Lloyd! Please don't do it! This is the thing we are trying to avoid!" shouted Nalia.

Garmadon coughs.

"I'm sorry, Father. You leave me no choice. It is our destiny." Lloyd makes an energy ball but glances over at Nalia, who looks on in fear, which isn't something he wanna see from her, so he doesn't fire.

"No! What is he doing?" Jay asked.

"They're coming." said Misako.

Garmadon laughs.

"Lloyd, we need to move!" shouted Misako.

"The clock is not too far from here." said Nya.

"Okay!" said Lloyd.

"Better hop in, Lloyd." said Nya.

Lloyd jumps in. "Go!" The ninjas leave as Garmadon watches them escape.

Nalia sighed, relieved, glad he didn't go for the shot.

Lloyd looks at Nalia and notices her calming down. He reaches over and takes one of her hands, gently rubbing his thumb over her knuckles.

Nalia looked up when she felt someone take her hand and saw that it was, Lloyd, she gave a soft smile. Already feeling more safe now that he was here.

*Soon the ninjas arrive at the clock.*

"Wow. This clock is a mechanical masterpiece." said Nya.

"You're welcome to dismantle it once we stop it." said Misako.

"There's only a couple minutes left!" said Jay.

"Everyone, look for the helmet's perch! It could be anywhere." said Misako.

"You don't know how to return the helmet?" Wu asked.

"It has a resting place somewhere." Misako places the helmet. "Oh, that didn't work. Maybe here."

"Perhaps I found the perch! Ugh, no. Wrong place." said Zane.

"How about here, wait, no never mind, this isn't the right place." said Nalia.

"Oh, what about here?" Jay asked.

"Could this be the place?" Kozu pushes Wu. "Oof!"

"No!" shouted Kai.

"There's only thirty seconds left. I believe it's time to die—" A pole pushes the helmet away. "No!" shouted Kozu.

"Get the helmet!" shouted Misako.

"Right!" Cole gets it, but drops it.

"Ah! The helmet's perch!" said Misako.

"There's only ten seconds left!" shouted Wu.

"I'll get it." A Warrior tries to stop Misako but Wu kicks him, while Nalia tries forming a sand wall around them.

"Hurry, Misako!" shouted Wu.

"Okay!" Misako puts the helmet on the perch, and the clock stops.

"NOOOOOOO!!!!!!" shouted Kozu.

"Ah! It worked!" Lloyd cheered.

"We did it!" cheered Nya.

The Ninjas cheers and the Stone Army growls angrily, but the clock starts again, blaring a horn.

"No!" shouted Wu.

"Oh, fuck!" shouted Nalia.

Kozu laughs evilly.

"The Horns of Destruction. We were too late." said Misako.

"Overlord, what has happened?" Garmadon asked.

"It has started." said the Overlord.

Garmadon sees a beam of light from the clock. "What is that thing?"

The ninjas try to fight but fell down a cliff. Nya screams as she's the only one up there.

"Nya!" shouted Jay.

"Jay!" shouted Nya.

"Sis!" shouted Kai.

Kozu grabs Nya.

"Let her go!" said Jay.

"Or what? You will make a big splash?" Kozu mocked.

Nalia narrowed her eyes at him; a golden glow surrounded her, growling as she stomped the ground, which was a wrong move on her part.

"The ground!" shouted Cole.

"No, no!" Jay panicked.

Nalia snapped out of her anger as she noticed what she had just done. "Oh, mangos."

They fall down in the Endless Sea.

"This is all my fault. I should've taken the shot." said Lloyd, glancing over at Nalia who was switching from angry to sad about this whole thing.

"We're all at fault, kid. It's just the way the cookie crumbled." said Cole.

"Ah! Are you still making jokes? They have Nya, AND YOU'RE MAKING JOKES?!!" Jay furiously tackles him.

"It was just a poor choice of words!" said Cole.

Wu stops Jay just before he punches Cole. "Enough! We have lost enough! We don't need to lose our focus!"

"Forget focus. We have to get my sister." said Kai.

"By the time we get back up there, they'll be gone. We will get your sister, but the clock has reached a zero and the Final Battle could start at any moment. We must head back to the Bounty to get prepared, so that next time, you will not hesitate." Misako.

"Come on, Lloyd. Let's go home. You will get your chance." said Wu.

"Lia?" Lloyd looked over at Nalia, who hadn't moved from where she stood.

"I could have saved her; I could have easily gotten up there and punched those guys away..... but it's also my fault the fucking ground crumbled under us because of my power and anger." Nalia thought angrily to herself before taking a deep breath.

"No, I can't let my anger control me like this, not this time. My anger only puts others in danger because my powers get out of control. As Wu once told me, I should put my emotions into singing; my songs will speak for how I feel more than anything." Taking another breath, Nalia turned around and followed the others, seeming more calm on the outside, but inside, she was raging with anger.

"We'll get her back, and we will stop, Garmadon," said Nalia, more determined than ever.
