Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: 2nd Year.

It had been a month since the school festival. A month of quiet—at least on the surface. Officially, it was the break before the new semester began. But for Eishi, that month had been anything but restful.

He trained. Day after day. Ever since that night.

He could still remember the moment clearly.

"Mom! I… I got it!" he had burst through the door, almost tripping over his own feet.

His mother looked up, blinking—then gasped, her eyes shining. "Oh my… congrats, Eishi!!"

Her voice broke, and tears welled up as she clasped her hands together. "All your hard work… I knew it! I knew you could do it!"

Eishi's chest tightened as he hugged her, burying his face against her shoulder. Her warmth, her pride—it should have been enough.

But his eyes trembled with hesitation.

"Mom… thank you," he whispered. His voice was low, almost fragile. "Thank you for always supporting me."

She just held him tighter, unaware of the storm that brewed behind his smile.

Now, a month later, he walked alone down the familiar road toward Kuoh Academy. His bag slung over one shoulder, the early spring breeze brushing against his face.

He sighed softly.

He had decided. He wouldn't tell his mother—not about the devils, not about the wings, not about the dangerous world he had stepped into.

To be honest… he was scared.

Scared of what she might think of him.

Scared of danger that might befall her.

That night, when his back had burned and those wings had unfurled, he had stared at them in disbelief. A devil's wings. His wings.

Even now, he didn't know the truth. Were they born from the class—the Dark Slayer—or… from him? Was he truly human, or something else? A hybrid, like Sona mentioned?

He didn't know.

Then he stared ahead, not at the road but at the screen hover in front of him.

After unlocking the Prince of Darkness class, everything felt different—like a shackle had finally been broken. Every other class seemed easier to level up now. But there was a catch: the cost in class points had risen, especially for the A-rank classes. The rest remained unchanged… except for the elusive S-rank, which was still locked. At least now he finally knew its name.

His thoughts drifted toward the Shadow Scientist class.

Yes.

Class Theme:A master of hidden knowledge and unorthodox invention, the Shadow Scientist thrives in the space between brilliance and madness. Operating from the fringes, he combines cunning intellect with experimental innovation—creating tools, weapons, and spells that bend the rules of both science and sorcery.

Then he gaze to fairy tactician class.

View details?Yes.

Class Theme:The Fairy Tactician is a master strategist and magician, embodying both whimsical innocence and terrifying brilliance. Beneath a playful, childlike façade lies a genius who calculates every move, turning the tides of battle with elegance and precision. Not only do they orchestrate allies like chess pieces on a board, but they also command vast magical power, capable of annihilating enemies when strategy alone will not suffice.

Both the Shadow Scientist and the Fairy Tactician classes seemed to revolve around the mind—strategy, intelligence, foresight—rather than pure combat. Still, they were ranked as A-Class, which meant they had to be extraordinary in their own right.

But the cost… 40 points. Double the amount needed for his previous class unlock.

Eishi exhaled softly. I'll think about it later.

For now, his thoughts drifted back to the Prince of Darkness.

This class felt different—powerful. A combat class that revolved around the sword. The only problem? He didn't have one. So, he had been practicing with a simple wooden stick at the park. Perhaps that was why his progress felt slow.

And then there was… the other thing.

The devil power .

He wasn't sure how much of it was tied to the class or to himself. The only time he could safely explore it was in his room at night, when his mother was asleep. That was when his world shifted. His vision sharpened until he could see through the dark as if it were daylight. His body felt stronger, faster—every sense sharpened beyond human limits.

And the most obvious change… his pair of wing.

Dark, leathery bat-like wings that sprouted from his back, marking him as something not entirely human.

And then came magic.

Eishi scratched the back of his neck, feeling embarrassed even thinking about it. The first night he had tried, he'd been stubborn, telling himself: If I'm really a devil now, I should be able to use magic.

So he stayed up the whole night experimenting.

At first—nothing. Hours of frustration.

But then… puff!

A tiny flame sparked at the tip of his finger. Small, flickering, no bigger than a candle's flame.

He had almost jumped out of bed in excitement.

"…Damn, that was dangerous," he muttered to himself.

Since then, he'd decided to avoid fire while practicing in his room. Too risky. Instead, he focused on water and wind—safer elements, and easier to visualize. Water especially, since he could see and feel it more clearly.

Still, the thrill of that first flame lingered in his memory.

Was he bad at magic?.

As his thoughts lingered, a voice suddenly cut through the quiet.

"Quite early, aren't you?"

Eishi blinked, turning his head.

"Tsubaki-senpai?"

She stood there, calm as ever, her expression softening just slightly. "Yes. Good."

Eishi rubbed the back of his neck with a sheepish smile. "Ah… just thought I'd get a head start."

"That's the right attitude." She gave a small nod. "Go on—head to your class. You still need to check which room you've been assigned to, don't you?"

"Right, yes," he replied quickly.

Tsubaki's tone shifted, just a little warmer. "By the way, since you're a second-year now, you should mind yourself. It's important to set a good example as a senior. From this year onward, you'll have juniors looking up to you."

Eishi straightened instinctively, caught off guard by the weight of her words. "I… I'll keep that in mind."

Her lips curved in the faintest smile. "Good. Looking at you, I believe you'll do well."

He gave a small nod, feeling oddly encouraged, before excusing himself and heading up toward the second-year floor.

The hallway was already lively, filled with chatter and the shuffling of feet. Some students were excitedly greeting old friends, others nervously clutching their bags, clearly new faces to the school.

Eishi's gaze wandered until it landed on the large announcement board pinned near the end of the hall.

"Ah, right… class assignments," he murmured, weaving through the crowd.

Dozens of names were neatly printed in rows. His finger trailed along until it stopped.

Lucivar Eishi – Class 2-D.

-

Kiba Yuto – Class 2-D.

He exhaled in relief. "guess I'll be with Kiba again."

His eyes skimmed the list further.

Hyoudou Issei – Class 2-B.

A small smile tugged at his lips. "Issei's just one hall over. That'll keep things interesting."

A small smile tugged at his lips. Issei's just one hall over. That'll keep things interesting.

Satisfied, he turned away from the board and made his way up to the second-year floor. His new classroom, 2-D, was still quiet when he slid the door open. Being early, he naturally drifted toward his usual spot—by the window, where the morning light pooled over the desk. He rested his bag and leaned back, letting the peaceful silence linger.

One by one, more students trickled in. A few stopped to greet him, mostly girls—as expected, given Kuoh Academy's unique ratio. Eishi responded with polite smiles, though he kept his composure calm.

The classroom door opened again, and a familiar presence stepped inside.

"Morning, Eishi-kun." Kiba Yūto's warm voice carried across the room. "Long time no see—" He stopped mid-sentence, tilting his head. "You seem… different."

Eishi chuckled lightly. "Well, I did exercise a bit during the past month."

Kiba's smile deepened knowingly. "A bit might be undervaluing it."

They exchanged an easy look before Kiba leaned closer. "By the way, my previous offer still stands. You should come visit the Occult Research Club."

"Maybe tomorrow?" Eishi reply.

Eishi continue. "cause today, I plan to stop by the Student Council after school."

"Ah, I see." Kiba's tone was approving, though there was a flicker of curiosity in his eyes. "Well then, tomorrow it is."
