The clouds of darkness took a humanoid form. Ace could tell it was shaped like a woman—broad curves, a chest jutting from the haze. A moment later, as if a brush had tipped the clouds, color bled across the shape until it looked human.
Ace stared deep into its violet eyes. Chae.
He'd suspected from the figure alone that the darkness was copying his girlfriend. Now that her eyes held color and he could read her expression, it was without a doubt Chaewon. She stared back for a few seconds, then vomited a mouthful of blood and dropped to her knees.
She coughed until she fell flat. Her skin turned ashen; blood pooled under her.
Ace stood still, calm.
As Chaewon lay there, clearly dead, another cloud of darkness materialized across from him. More figures lined the corridor.
Ace knew every face.
