Chapter 502: The Most Dangerous Man
Vice Admiral Chaton swaggered along with his rolling gait, leading a squad of Navy soldiers on patrol through a certain outer wilderness area of Mariejois.
The white city of Mariejois was built atop the Red Line.
This largest landmass in the world had no vitality. The crimson earth made it difficult for plants to survive, after all, this place was located nearly ten thousand meters above sea level where temperatures were quite low.
Not to mention this red land never had rivers or anything of the sort. Neither animals nor plants had any foundation for growth here. Even Mariejois' resources had to be transported up from sea level.
Outside the prosperous Mariejois lay only endless wilderness. This world's largest landmass had no real utility value.
Vice Admiral Chaton's face looked lazy, but inwardly he was anxious.
He couldn't find anything in this empty plain.
Was the Science Division base really around here? Or was it that Gion truly was deceiving him?
The man felt quite lost.
He didn't know if he simply hadn't found it, or if he was just being fooled.
But right at that moment, his brow suddenly furrowed.
"I'm going to the bathroom. You all go ahead."
He suddenly spoke up.
His subordinate Navy soldiers had no questions whatsoever. They simply continued forward on their own.
After all, this wasn't the first time. This Vice Admiral Chaton had always been quite willful.
Vice Admiral Chaton walked to a deserted area of the wilderness. After confirming his subordinates had gone far away, he turned toward a certain spot.
"Gion! Come out!" The man's face bloomed with a brilliant smile.
Chaton continuously maintained his Observation Haki, so naturally he'd noticed the familiar presence the moment it appeared.
Then from the ground not far ahead, someone emerged.
"How perceptive. You noticed immediately after we just arrived."
Laughter rang out.
Chaton's brow furrowed tight. He looked in shock at the person who'd appeared together with his goddess.
"Brett??"
How could he not recognize this man?
The strongest opponent the World Government had faced to date, and the greatest humiliation in Navy history.
The Fish-Man Brett!
How could this man be together with Gion?
There was only one possibility!
Gion really had joined the same camp as Teacher Zephyr, so naturally she was also allied with Brett!
So he'd been deceived?
"Don't misunderstand, Vice Admiral Chaton."
Brett said calmly. "Miss Gion and we are only in a cooperative partnership. She hasn't become accomplices with us as you're thinking."
"Is that so?"
Chaton's mouth twitched. His arms had already turned pitch black.
"Don't get excited, Tokikake. Brett isn't lying to you."
Miss Gion spoke up at this point. "I've neither joined NEO Navy nor thrown in with Fish-Man Island, of course."
"The reason I'm cooperating with them is because we share a common goal in exposing the Government's evil conduct."
Chaton remained silent, simply calmly assuming a combat stance.
His heart inclined toward believing Gion, but his reason wouldn't let him.
"If you don't believe it, then come see with us what kind of experiments are being conducted at the Science Division base."
"What?"
Gaji frowned. "Are you joking, Brett? I've been searching Mariejois for several days and haven't seen any sign of the experimental base you're talking about!"
"You didn't find it only because you haven't looked far enough."
Brett said this.
As expected, leaving this matter to Chaton wasn't particularly reliable.
The World Government was naturally also guarding against the Navy's actions.
With Tokikake patrolling so openly, it would be a miracle if he could find anything.
However, this guy had still uncovered some intelligence.
For instance, the World Government had mobilized some forces around the Sunlight Tree Eve. They seemed to be planning something.
Brett guessed a bit and knew what the Five Elders wanted to do.
They probably wanted to destroy the Sunlight Tree Eve and completely cut off Fish-Man Island's sunlight.
That would be somewhat troublesome.
If sunlight disappeared from the deep sea, they'd have no choice but to relocate Fish-Man Island to the surface.
Even if Fish-Men and Merfolk could survive in the deep sea, that didn't mean they didn't need sunlight.
"What do you mean?" Tokikake's brow furrowed tightly.
Was this bastard looking down on him?
Vice Admiral Chaton felt quite irritated.
"Brett's Observation Haki is extraordinarily powerful."
Seeing Chaton's disbelieving look, Vice Admiral Gion explained, "He can easily find many things we have no way of detecting."
Vice Admiral Chaton narrowed his eyes.
This explanation made him even angrier!
Although it was just Observation Haki, didn't this also show that in Gion's heart, he was far inferior to this guy?
Vice Admiral Chaton felt quite irritated.
"Is that so?"
He sneered. "Then this Brett fellow, did you see something that I couldn't see?"
"Can't see it, but can hear it."
Brett's lips curved.
For a base housing tens of thousands of people, what was most important?
Naturally, the transport of supplies.
If the Science Division base truly existed here, then Brett didn't need to guess to know that large quantities of supplies were transported daily from Mariejois to that base.
So no matter how far away that base existed, as long as he paid attention to the sounds of Mariejois, he could track it down.
The time he'd spent wandering Mariejois earlier hadn't been idle wandering. Brett had been carefully listening to sounds from all parts of the city.
And finally he'd made some progress.
"Let's go. Come see with us."
Brett revealed a smile.
But Tokikake fell into silence.
How could I possibly go with you?
Who knows what's waiting for me!
That's what Tokikake was thinking.
However.
Brett grinned. "Oh right, Miss Gion said if you come with us, she'll go on a date with you afterward."
Miss Gion shot him an annoyed look.
But still didn't say anything.
"What are we waiting for? Let's get going!"
Tokikake spoke righteously.
In Pangaea Castle's conference hall.
Saint Mars' sudden statement left the assembled kings looking confused.
What did he mean the world had reached its most dangerous moment? What did he mean they were standing at the cliff's edge?
Was he talking about NEO Navy? Or the Revolutionary Army?
Had the strength of these two groups already troubled the Government to this extent?
"I apologize that you're only learning of this now."
Saint Mars took a deep breath. "Now let me introduce to you all in detail the most dangerous man in the world! The man who intends to overturn the entire world and seize everything on these seas!"
"The actions of that Fish-Man Brett!!"
