The taxi came to a stop with a smoothness that seemed to belong to another universe. For a moment, the only sound was the silent hum of the electric motor, a respectful whisper before the monument to opulence that spread out before them.
"Hey, Izuku-kun," Toru's voice was a whisper filled with awe, her face practically pressed against the window. "Are you sure this is Momo-chan's house and not the embassy of some small, ridiculously wealthy country?"
"I think the garden has its own weather satellite," Ochako added, her eyes wide as she tried to take in the expanse of perfectly manicured lawn, marble fountains, and hedges sculpted with inhuman precision.
Izuku just smiled. The feeling of unreality was familiar to him.
Inko, sitting beside him, smoothed her skirt with a calmness that Izuku found to be the very definition of heroism.
"Oh my. I hope I didn't wear the wrong shoes."
Kageko, Toga's gothic alter ego, let out a dramatic whisper.
"So much perfection… It's an insult to the beautiful entropy of chaos. I feel… aesthetically assaulted."
The wrought iron gate, as tall as a two-story building, swung inward without the slightest sound, as if obeying a thought. On the other side, at the top of a white marble staircase, a group of their classmates was already waiting, looking just as out of place as they felt.
"You're finally here!" Denki Kaminari exclaimed, waving with an energy that seemed sacrilegious in the solemn environment.
The main door, a masterpiece of mahogany and beveled glass, opened to reveal Momo Yaoyorozu. There was no nervousness on her face, only the genuine, radiant smile of someone welcoming her family.
"Welcome!" Her voice, clear and happy, instantly dispelled the intimidating atmosphere. "Please, come in. I'm so glad you could all make it."
"Yaomomo!" Kageko exclaimed, completely forgetting her persona and running to give her an enthusiastic hug. "Your house is insane! We could hold a sports festival in here!"
Momo laughed, returning the hug with a naturalness that showed how accustomed she had become to Toga's chaotic energy. Her gaze met Inko's.
"Inko-san! I'm so happy you could come!" Momo said, approaching to give her a familiar hug. "I hope the trip wasn't too tiring."
"Not at all, dear," Inko replied, returning the gesture warmly. "Though I almost asked the driver to give us a tour of the grounds for sightseeing. It's beautiful."
The interaction, so warm and familiar, left the group of Kaminari, Mina, Sero, Jiro, and Ojiro with their mouths slightly agape.
"Wait a minute," Mina said, approaching with curiosity. "You two already know each other?"
"Of course," Ochako answered with a smile. "Inko-san and Momo-chan are good friends. Sometimes we all have dinner together at Deku-kun's house."
"And you must be Midoriya's mom!" Kaminari exclaimed, recovering from his surprise. "Wow! It's a pleasure! And no offense, Midoriya, but you're even younger and prettier in person!"
Inko smiled, a lovely smile that highlighted her vitality.
"You're a charmer, young man. Though all the credit goes to my son's training regimen. He's an adorable drill sergeant, but a drill sergeant nonetheless."
"And this is Kageko," Izuku introduced, placing a hand on Toga's shoulder. "She's a friend staying with us. She's a little… poetic."
Kageko gave a theatrical bow.
"The pleasure is mine. To behold the future pillars of this painfully bright society is a… sublime experience."
"I love your style!" Mina exclaimed, fascinated. "We have to talk gothic fashion later!"
Momo led the group through a foyer that could have housed a blue whale and into what she called the "study." It was a two-story library that sent a shiver of pure admiration down Izuku's spine.
"Alright, let's get organized," Momo said, resuming her role as leader with an efficiency everyone admired. "Kaminari, Mina, Sero, Jiro, Ojiro, we'll review Quirk legislation together. The rest of us will focus on advanced strategy. Inko-san, Kageko-chan, please, make yourselves at home."
The study session began, and Momo transformed. She was a natural-born teacher, patient and brilliant.
"The common mistake is to think the Collateral Damage Regulation Act is punitive," she explained, as a holographic diagram floated above the oak table. "In reality, it's a protective framework for the hero. If you can prove that your choice of Quirk minimized the potential risk to civilians, even if the material damage was greater, you're covered by the 'Priority Tactical Decision' clause. It's counterintuitive, but it's the key."
"Coming from you, it actually makes sense," Jiro muttered, genuinely impressed.
On the other side of the table, the conversation was a murmur of combat analysis.
"No, the key against Kirishima's Hardening isn't brute force," Izuku was saying, his pen flying across the paper. "It's vibration. His Quirk is based on the densification of his skin's carbon cells. A specific sonic frequency, like Jiro's, could create a sympathetic vibration that destabilizes that structure. You wouldn't break it; you'd undo it at a molecular level."
Toru, sitting so close to Izuku that their shoulders were touching, rested her chin on her arm to get a better look at his notes. Her touch was casual, constant, a gesture of affection that was already part of their dynamic.
"Hey, Izuku-kun," she whispered, her warm breath tickling his ear. "What if I give you a back rub while you analyze? I bet you'd think better. And I could… 'absorb' the knowledge through contact."
Izuku blushed violently but didn't pull away.
"T-Toru-san, we're studying…"
"Exactly. Optimizing the study environment," she replied with a giggle, giving him a playful nudge in the ribs.
Ochako, sitting across from them, watched the scene with an amused smile. The pang of jealousy she might have felt months ago had been replaced by a deep sense of belonging. This was her team. Her strange, dysfunctional family.
Kageko, who had been doodling in a notebook (Izuku hoped it wasn't detailed assassination plans), came closer.
"Molecular annihilation through sonic waves…" she said in her gloomy voice. "It's an art form. A symphony of silent destruction. I approve."
During the tea break, served with a robotic precision that fascinated Ochako, Inko and Momo found themselves alone for a moment near the enormous library window.
"Sometimes I wonder if we're doing enough for him, Momo-chan," Inko said softly, her gaze lost on her son, who was now trying to explain a principle of light refraction to Toru using two sugar cubes.
Momo followed her gaze, and a smile of immense affection formed on her face.
"We do what we can, Inko-san. And I think it's more than enough. You gave him his heart. And we… we give him a place to use it without it breaking."
"Still, I worry," Inko confessed. "After Hosu… every time he goes out, I feel a knot in my stomach. And now, with this secret about All Might and that villain… the weight on his shoulders is too much for a boy his age."
Momo nodded, her expression darkening slightly.
"I know. But he's not carrying it alone anymore. Ochako, Toru, Toga… and me. We're all there. We're his shields, just as much as he is ours. We won't let him sink."
Inko took her hand, a gesture between two women who shared the same devotion and the same worry.
"Thank you, my dear. Knowing he has someone like you by his side… it gives me a peace you can't imagine."
The study session resumed. The sun began to set, staining the thousands of books a melancholic gold. Everyone was exhausted, but their minds were sharper than ever.
"I get it! I finally get it!" Mina exclaimed, jumping from her chair. "Quirk law isn't boring, it's a weapon! Thanks, Yaomomo! You're the best!"
"You've saved my semester," Sero said, bowing dramatically.
As they packed their things, the atmosphere was one of pure gratitude and camaraderie. Izuku approached Momo.
"This was an incredible day. Thank you for opening your home to us… and your mind."
"Thank you for filling it with life," she replied, the blush on her cheeks one of pure happiness. "I like this noise. I like having you all here."
"We should do this every week," he suggested.
"I'd love that."
As they said their goodbyes at the door, Toru clung to Izuku's arm, a gesture that was now completely natural.
"Hey, Izuku-kun, last night I dreamed about what I sent you. It was… really exciting."
Izuku turned red up to his ears, while Ochako and Momo exchanged an amused look.
"See you next time, Yaomomo!" Kageko called out. "Your tea was delightfully bitter. Just like existence itself."
Back in the taxi, Izuku's team rode in a comfortable silence, their exhaustion mixed with a sense of accomplishment. They had entered that mansion as classmates. They left it as a battalion ready for battle, more united and stronger than ever.
That night, Izuku was in his room, reviewing his notes. His phone vibrated. It was a message from Toru, with a picture of her pet goldfish, "Green Flash."
Toru: He ate! I think he likes me! Btw, thanks again for today. And for last night. I'm still thinking about it… a lot. ❤️
Izuku smiled, feeling a familiar warmth in his chest. He was about to reply when another message came in. It was from Momo.
Momo: Izuku. I apologize for the late hour. Today was exceptionally productive, not only academically, but for the team's cohesion. Thank you for making that possible. Also… I have been reviewing my notes on the intimate synergy protocol.
Izuku's heart skipped a beat, and the warmth in his chest intensified.
Momo: The results with Toga-san were conclusive, but to establish a reliable pattern, we would need to replicate the experiment under controlled conditions with different Quirk types. My own theoretical barrier with complex organic matter remains an obstacle. Perhaps… after the exams… we could schedule that private analysis session I mentioned. To… to rigorously document the effects. For science, and for the good of the team, of course.
Izuku stared at the screen, his face burning. The calm before the exams was over. And a new, very complicated, personal storm had just begun to form on the horizon.
