Cia sat beside the old man as his brothers took care of Sam and the kids. Now that his mental state was finally stable, he realized that the old man's appearance and atmosphere were getting worse every second.
He was really dying.
"Don't look too gloomy," the old man said as he arranged the books on the shelves. "Actually, dying feels like a relief to me. I want to accompany my wife in Lucere's embrace."
"Sir, sorry if this question might be a bit sensitive, but what about your family, sir?" The town of Syrencrest was in lockdown now, but even when it wasn't, aside from the granddaughter, Cia had never seen another family member besides the old man.
"My family? Except for Trina, I forbade any of them from contacting me." The old man seemed to enjoy Cia's company during his last moments. There wasn't anyone who wanted to die alone.
He sat down beside Cia and started to share things that he normally wouldn't say to other people, even close friends.
