- After over a year, have Magic City gotten their seventh S-Class magician, said a news reporter. It's been a week since we got back from London.
- Licht Kamijo, the newest S-Class magician, has a mana score of ten million, ten times higher than Accelerator, who was the magician with the highest mana score before Kamijo came to Magic City, the news reporter said. I knew that he had a lot of mana but not that much, I thought. Right now there are only ten people who have enough mana to be classified as S-Class. The only ones outside Magic City with enough mana are Aeldra, Aldric and Alarice.
- Licht Kamijo has challenged the Frozen Prince, Yuki Misaka. They are going to have their fight today at half past five, said the news reporter. I have to watch that fight, which I should be able to do as long as I'm not late, I thought. I looked at the clock and saw that I have to go to school now.
When I got to school I saw that Suzuki was already there.
- Hey Suzuki, I shouted.
- Oh Fuji hi, what lesson is it? asked Suzuki when I got to him. I looked up into the sky and said "Ehm… It's Wednesday today so it's math."
- Ah fuck, I hate math, Suzuki complained.
- After that we have physical education and after that some magic theory, I continued.
- What about we skip math? asked Suzuki.
- No, I can't do that. I want to see the fight, I answered.
- Come on, you'll make it, Suzuki said.
- Last time I was late I got detention until half past four, I said.
- And you were probably really late, said Suzuki.
- I was five minutes late, I said. We usually finish around 15:30.
- So we can't? asked Suzuki.
- Nope, I answered.
At gym class.
- As you may already know this but tomorrow will be my last day here, said our physical education teacher Daichi Murata. He has very short grey hair and green eyes. He was really muscular and tall. He was 70 years old but on the physique you would never guess it. Right now, he is the strongest A-Class magician but he will retire after tomorrow.
- So we have now found someone to replace me, said Murata.
- I hope he is young and hot, said Amaterasu Watanabe. She has long blond hair and blue eyes. She was long and slim. She is the prettiest girl in our school and the strongest in our class. She's also an arrogant bitch. A young man walked into the gymnasium. He had black slicked back hair with red stripes and yellow eyes. He wore a white shirt with a brown blazer over it and black pants. He was wearing glasses.
- Hi, my name is Ronin Suzuki. I am an A-Class ice magician, said Ronin. I thought Kamijo would become our new physical education teacher, I thought.
- Hey Suzuki, is he your brother? whispered Wada.
- No, I only have a little sister, Suzuki whispered.
- Okay, are you going to start the lesson now? asked Murata.
- What about you take the lesson and I help you? asked Ronin.
- Yeah sure, so kids we start with two hundred laps around the gymnasium. Come on two hundred? I thought.
The Next Lesson.
- Hi and welcome to magic theory, said Hara. Beside her stood Kamijo. He had a white shirt under a black blazer and black pants.
- Why is Kamijo here? asked Wada.
- Wada, how many times do I need to tell you to stretch up your hand? He is here because he will be teaching you for this lesson since I have to go soon, said Hara. Suzuki stretched up his hand and Hara answered "Yeah, Suzuki,"
- Where are you going? asked Suzuki.
- That doesn't matter, she said happily.
- Hi, I'm Licht Kamijo and I will be your new substitute teacher, said Kamijo. Tanaka stretched up her hand and asked "Wait, aren't you the new S-Class magician?"
- Yeah, I am, he answered.
- Yeah Perez, said Hara.
- Wait, I heard that you are only 18 years old, said Tierra Perez. She has long red hair and yellow eyes. She was very muscular and was from Mexico.
- No, I'm not 18… I'm only 16, said Kamijo. Tanaka stretched up her hand.
- If you are 16, why aren't you a student? asked Tanaka.
- Because I refuse to be a student, said Kamijo. Hara looked at the clock and said "I have to go now."
- Okay, do any of you have any questions about magic? Yeah, Shimizu, correct? he asked.
- Yeah that's my name. Is it possible to use magic without a spell? asked Shimizu. Before Kamijo could answer her question Wada said "What? Of course it's impossible."
- Wada, up with your hand if you want to say something, said Kamijo.
- Is it possible? asked Shimizu again. Kamijo looked up to the ceiling and answered "Well, theoretically speaking if you have enough control over your mana aura, you could." Mana aura? I thought confused and stretched up my hand.
- Yeah, Fuji, said Kamijo.
- What do you mean by once mana aura? I asked.
- Every magician releases around one percent of once mana all the time. The mana the magician releases unconsciously is what is called magic aura, said Kamijo.
- Why do magicians release magic, asked Suzuki.
- The main reason is so we don't get mana poisoning, said Kamijo. Mana poisoning is a sickness that you can get if your body has more mana than it can safely store. Often mana poisoning only causes you to fall into a coma but it can have other effects. There are multiple records from the forgotten age, (415 000-315 000 years ago), where people have gone crazy and attacked everyone near them because of mana poisoning.
- So it's only there to prevent us from getting mana poisoning? asked Suzuki.
- No, it also works like a shield, protecting us from magic and if you have enough mana it can also shield you from projectiles like gunshots and arrows, said Kamijo. "If you have enough control over your mana, you can form it into your magic type." Kamijo stretched out his hand and a small fire appeared in front of his hand.
- You can make it bigger and smaller with either increasing the amount of mana you're releasing or decreasing the amount of mana you're realising, Kamijo explained while making the fire bigger and then smaller.
- But is it actually possible to use a spell without the incarnation? asked Shimizu. Kamijos fire disappeared and then he said "Spells are here to help us release and form our mana. Yeah sure, it's theoretically possible but for a normal human it's practically impossible."
- But is it theoretically possible for a normal human? asked Shimizu.
- Yeah, it is, answered Kamijo.
After school.
- Hey Fuji, can you help me take these papers to the teachers office? asked Tanaka. She stood at the teachers table where there were two stacks of papers.
- Yeah sure, I answered and took one of the stacks of papers and then we walked to the teachers office.
- Wada, he irritates me all the time. He's just so annoying, Tanaka complained on the way to the teachers office.
- Quite sure that you're the only person that thinks that, I said.
- How can you even be friends with someone like him? asked Tanaka. And of course, she's not listening, I thought.
- I wonder that sometimes to, I answered. When we got to the teachers office we heard Murata ask "Kamijo, how was your first lesson?"
- It was good, Kamijo answered. Tanaka knocked on the door and Murata said "Yeah, Come in." We walked into the room and saw that Kamijo, Murata and Ronin Suzuki were in the room. We sat the papers on Hara's table and then we left the room.
- Oh right, Fuji come here, said Kamijo before I left the room. I walked up to him and he gave me a piece of paper.
- You need to fill this in before Friday, said Kamijo.
- Ok, see you after the match, I said.
- Yeah, we do, said Kamijo.
On the way out.
- So who between Kamijo and Misaka do you think will win? asked Tanaka.
- Kamijo, for sure, I answered.
- Yes, of course. What are you going to do before the match? asked Tanaka. The duel starts in one and a half hours.
- I'm going out and eating with Nari, I said. Nari said that she wanted to ask me something.
- Where are you eating? asked Tanaka.
- Mahō Tabemono, I answered. Mahō Tabemono is the most popular restaurant in Magic City. Mahō Tabemono has multiple restaurants in Magic City. The one we are going to is quite close to Midorepki Magic Academy, Nari's school.
- Wait, Mahō Tabemono? You have money to eat there? asked Tanaka. Mahō Tabemono is also one of the most expensive restaurants in Magic City.
- That's the thing, I'm not the one paying, I said.
- Huh, so Misaka is paying? asked Tanaka.
- Exactly, I answered. When we got to the school gate we said bye and I went to the restaurant.

Yeah, I don't fit in here, I thought when I got into the restaurant. Everyone in here has either a suit or a dress. So I, in my normal clothes, don't fit in here.
- Hi, do you have a reservation? asked one of the waitresses.
- Yeah, it should be under Misaka, I said.
- Ok, so you're here with Nari Misaka? asked the waitress.
- Yeah, I am, I said. So Nari is already here? I thought.
- Ok, follow me, said the waitress and took me to a private room.
- Here is your reserved room, said the waitress and opened the door. In the room sat Nari and Saito. I walked into the room and said "Hi Nari, so Saito is also here?"
- Yeah I am, so what? Did you want to be alone with her? asked Saito.
- No, it doesn't matter, I said.
- So how does it feel to have a 12 year old paying for this? asked Saito mockingly.
- Shut up, I responded.
- Kenji, sit down and order your food, said Nari.
- Yeah sure, I said and ordered.
- So what did you want to ask? I asked Nari.
- Me and Ai are going to participate in the Team Battle Tournaments and we want you in our team, said Nari. The Team Battle Tournaments is a series of tournaments that happens once each month starting from the second Saturday of March and ends on the second Saturday of October. The winners of each tournament gets 14 000 yen per person and the team that wins the most gets 14 000 000. Each team has 80 points that they can spend on magicians. F-Class magicians cost 0 points, 1 point for E-Class, 2 for D-Class, 4 for C-Class, 8 for B-Class, 16 for A-Class and 32 for S-Class. You have to have at least 4 people in your team and a maximum of 10.
- You want me on your team? Why? I'm only an F-Class, I said. Nari started laughing when she heard me say that.
- Yeah sure, on paper you're just an F-Class but with that right arm you have, you're at least a B-Class, said Nari while whipping away a tear.
- And if they can fight without magic I'm useless, I said.
- We just want you to help us beat Accelerator, said Saito. Ah, so it's just for Accelerator they want me for, I thought.
- And against most people that don't need their magic to fight we won't need your help. Plus since you're classified as an F-Class we don't have to spend any points on you so we can get another S-Class, said Nari. A team with two S-Class magicians would be able to handle almost any combination of magicians on the other team. The only other teams that would really stand a chance against a team with two S-Classes are teams with one out of the other S-Class magicians. Although even in last year's tournament no team had more than one S-Class since except for the Misaka siblings and Kamijo, they don't tend to get along with each other. Accelerator and Kage hate each other and have tried to kill each other before and probably would have if the board hadn't stopped them. Nari and Suzuki (Not my friend Suzuki or my new teacher) hate each other, just not as much as Accelerator and Kage and Takahashi tend to not want to get involved with other S-Class magicians unless it's really necessary. I looked up to the ceiling and thought "Should I say yes? No, the chance of getting seriously injured is too big and I can't miss more school than I have already done."
- I'm sorry but I have to say no, I said before Nari said "If we win you will get 7 out of the 14 million yen, said Nari.
- Okay I'm in, I said. Okay, I really need the money.
Later after the food had arrived Saito asked "Have you heard the rumors?"
- Rumors? What rumors? There are like a billion different rumors in Magic City, I said.
- The first rumor is that a group called Garden of Shadows have been going around and killing a bunch of people here in Magic City, said Saito. Wait, Shadow Garden? Isn't it the group that Shadow and Alpha was in? I thought.
- Garden of Shadows? Are you sure that it was that they called themselves? asked Nari.
- Ehm… Yeah? Pretty sure of that, said Saito confused. Wouldn't shock me if it was them, I thought while thinking back to when Shadow killed Brent. I looked at Saito and asked "What is the other rumor?"
- The second rumor was that the board had been wondering about making the A-Class magician Hayami Nishimura to a S-Class, said Saito.
- Wait, does she have enough mana to be a S-Class? I asked.
- Nope, she doesn't and she's absolutely not good enough in a battle to deserve S-Class, said Nari. There are a few A-Class magicians that have the power to match an S-Class like Murata but Nishimura is not one of them.
- Wait, then they can't make her an S-Class, I said.
- Like they care, if the board wants her to be an S-Class, so can they just make her an S-Class. It's not like anyone can stop them, said Nari. That's ridiculous that they can do that. After that we ate our food and talked a bit more before we headed to the arena.
Outside the arena.
- I will go and say hi to Yuki, said Nari.
- Okay, see you after the match than, I said.
- Yeah sure, bye, said Nari. They headed to Yuki meanwhile I headed up to the arena's viewing area.
- The battle will start soon so let's introduce our fighters, said the judge.
- On the right side, we have the Frozen Prince, Yuki Misaka, said the judge and Yuki walked out.
- And on the left side we have the newest S-Class, Licht Kamijo, said the judge and Kamijo walked out.
- Start! screamed the judge
- Ice Beam, said Yuki and shot a beam of ice towards Kamijo.
- Fire Overheat, said Kamijo and shot a bunch of fire towards Yuki. When their magic hit each other, Kamijo closed his hand and the fire exploded.
