Chapter 1 - Prologue: Albert Astro.

It was all around, stinking and barely breathable, yet somehow, he was unbothered by it all. Many limbs and guts were swarming on tables, on the floor, blood spattered on the walls, along with slimy and sticky pieces of the brain. And yet he was in a sort of comfort zone. It was mostly dark, in a place which even god might not know where. The only source of light was the big lamp on his Operations Table. The saw bit into the forehead, again and again and again, till it was cut open to expose the pink brain of the subject.

The subject was a man, a young specimen. alive. activity stopped by the virtual effect. His tools cut parts of the brain's lobes. Suddenly, a device nearby claimed the subject dead. The device was ancient, not even close to present-day technology.

'Ah, shit, another's gone,' He whispered to himself. Hunched over, big ass glasses on his face, head bald, a messed up beard on his face, not shaved for years. He moved across the room, towards a desk, many spines hanging nearby on a display, trophies of murder, one might call them. He sat on the brown, aged chair. He rammed open a drawer near his knee and slid out a camera, which was a relic of the past centuries, an ancient recorder. He opened a side screen on it and started filming. 'This is Day 10899. I brought in a subject yesterday. I was close this time, but as I was diving towards the frontal lobe, the subject gave up. He sighed, looking back at the operations table for a moment. 'In the last few decades, I've assessed countless subjects, I've tried evolving limbs, spines, guts, genes, and now the brain, yet I continue to fail. The change seems inevitable; I might die in a few years, and I probably am the only one standing. I've tried finding others, but I couldn't; the Polibots have been chasing me, and I've been barely escaping them.' The light in the room flickered. 'It was like 60 years ago that Veo Corp introduced Androidus, the virtual world, the dreamland for mankind. At first, it was a hobby for people, flying around in the virtual world, but slowly, it became the only enjoyable thing left for them, as Minners were making money for them, Admbots ran the government, Polibots replaced the law enforcement, and Cleaners and Maintainers took care of human bodies while they were inside, they felt no need to exit the world where they were gods.

'There were those as well, who were still breathing in reality, like me, who tried to get their loved ones out were hunted by Polibots for disrupting the Androidus Program. Many were hanged, but those who hid from them, like, got nothing much, it's not possible to bring them out, if you do, they fall into the virtuality effect, their bodies don't function, it's similar to a coma, but this can be lethal. I've been trying ever since to evolve mankind. Evolution is the only way. Whenever there were such calamities for humans, the only solution was evolution.' He joined his hands together. 'Anyway, I have to steal another subject, Day 10899. Albert Astro.'
