Chapter 166 - Chapter 166 – Offering Incense at the Wrong Grave

"Man... are all Byakugan users this sensitive?"

Gin scratched the curly tuft of hair on his head, staring speechlessly at the tightly shut coffin lid.

The more they can see, the thinner their skin gets.

"Dear kin from Earth, please don't mind him. The clan leader has always been like that."

Just as Gin was about to storm off grumbling, another cool voice echoed from the darkness.

A lean man stepped forward. Though his empty black eye sockets were just as hollow, there was a visible sense of apology in his expression.

"We didn't expect you to arrive this early, but please take a look."

Compared to the previous long-haired man, this one seemed much more composed.

He raised a finger, and the purple sphere on the ground slowly floated up and hovered in front of Gin.

"Watch? Huh! Your guys' projectors sure are unique."

Gin's blue-white eyes followed the floating sphere. As it burst into radiant light, he had to squint and instinctively began to complain again.

FWOOOSH!

The purple light enveloped the entire hall, and Gin's consciousness was whisked into a strange space.

"...Why does it look exactly the same?"

Opening his eyes, Gin was still in the same dark hall. The only difference was the eerie purple glow illuminating everything like a nightclub.

No grand transformation, no flashbacks—just a really lame light show.

He began to question whether these so-called relatives were just cosplaying weirdos with a broken VCR.

Suddenly, the mound-shaped tombs around him began to morph into humanoid forms. The unsettling sight almost made him extract chakra on reflex—until one familiar figure appeared.

"We are the descendants of Hamura..."

It was the long-haired man again—the same one Gin had bantered with earlier. This time, his expression was solemn and composed.

He stepped forward from the ghostly crowd, explaining in a formal tone:

"We are the main branch of the Ōtsutsuki clan—"

"Pfft~"

Gin couldn't help it. He burst out laughing.

Main branch? Even the two weirdos flying through space would laugh themselves awake hearing this.

"Ugh..."

The long-haired man's face twisted again in frustration, clearly on the verge of bailing once more.

"My bad, my bad. Please continue. I just remembered something funny~"

Knowing someone important was about to show up, Gin quickly apologized, trying to smooth things over. If this uncle turned out to be petty, he'd be in trouble.

"Ahem... Our main branch was destroyed by the branch family, who twisted Hamura's will..."

"Haha~ Sorry again. Just remembered our sow back home gave birth today. Joyful news, y'know?"

Gin covered his mouth, his tone apologetic. The excuse was oddly convincing.

"The last remnants of the branch family are trying to reactivate the Tenseigan and use it to destroy the world below."

The man paused, clearly bracing for more laughter. But Gin stayed quiet this time.

"So now... only you can stop them."

"Hah? You want me to fight Sukuna again?"

Gin rolled his eyes, throwing out a nonsense reference.

"Sukuna? What are you talking about? You're supposed to fight the Ōtsutsuki branch family."

The man furrowed his brows. He didn't remember anyone named Sukuna in the branch family.

"Sorry, can't help. I just wanna go home~"

Gin flatly declined this newly assigned world-saving mission.

Better leave this legendary-level quest to Naruto and his bride. Otherwise, he'd end up a historic villain for ruining their fate.

Though... Boruto wasn't all bad, right?

FWOOOSH!

Just as he finished speaking, the ghostly crowd parted, clearing a path through the center.

Another unfamiliar figure slowly emerged from the void, strolling toward him. The long-haired man quickly bowed and stepped aside.

As the figure reached Gin, an ancient, oppressive aura radiated from him, making it hard to breathe.

Gin steadied himself, activating his Byakugan to resist the pressure. His blue-white eyes locked onto the old man's form.

Behind him floated three black orbs. His robe was ancient in style, with a wide collar decorated with tomoe patterns across his shriveled chest. Twin horns adorned his forehead.

Wrinkles lined his gaunt face. His narrow eyes were filled with thought. As he examined Gin from head to toe, he frowned and fell silent.

"Ah! You must be—"

Gin raised a trembling finger, playing the stunned role perfectly.

"Heh... So my legend still circulates down on Earth."

The old man, pleased with Gin's reaction, chuckled softly.

"You must be the ancestor of the Hagoromo clan, right?"

PFFT!

Snickers erupted from the kneeling crowd behind.

HMPH!

The old man sucked in a breath sharply, silencing them with a single glare.

"I'm not some descendant of Hagoromo, you brat!"

Turning back to Gin, he forced open his drooping eyelids, revealing dull Byakugan. He began lecturing patiently:

"My name is Ōtsutsuki Hamura. I am the progenitor of the Ōtsutsuki clan on the moon. As for the horns—they come from my other identity."

"I mean... you've got horns. The Hagoromo clan has horns. Same vibe, no?"

Gin pointed at the pale protrusions on Hamura's head.

"I am the younger brother of Ōtsutsuki Hagoromo."

"Hagoromo? That name rings a bell... Which district is he from?"

Gin furrowed his brow, pretending to be a clueless bystander.

"Cough cough! Has the world below truly forgotten the founder of ninshū?"

Hamura frowned. If people had already forgotten his brother, maybe Earth's shinobi really were a lost cause.

"Oh! Right, right! The Sage of Six Paths! I'm super familiar with that guy!"

Gin almost caused a planetary reset by playing dumb, but he saved it just in time with a theatrical "Eureka!" moment.

"Yes. The Sage of Six Paths is my elder brother. That makes me your great-great uncle."

Hamura nodded, slightly relieved that Gin hadn't forgotten after all.

"No no no, the Sage of Six Paths is a direct ancestor of my clan."

Gin disagreed instantly, shaking his head.

"What? Don't go around claiming ancestors that aren't yours. You've got pure Byakugan—how could you be Hagoromo's descendant?"

Hamura frowned, realizing this poor kid had been worshipping at the wrong ancestral shrine for years.

No wonder the offerings had dried up lately.

"Eh? Not true! See for yourself!"

Gin's eyes suddenly flashed. The pale blue glow of the Byakugan turned crimson.

Within his pupils, three spinning tomoe emerged, exuding a cold, mysterious aura.

He smirked and said with a teasing tone:

"I'm standing right here—how much do I look like the past?"

"...HUH???"

Everyone froze.

"What's with his eyes?!"

"That power... it's even stronger than the Byakugan!"

"I've seen it in the ancient texts—it's the eye our ancestor's brother once had!"

"So this guy has both the red and white eyes? Doesn't that mean—"

"Yup. He's a hybrid!"

"No wonder I felt something off... What kind of chaotic bloodline is this?"

Hamura's eyes narrowed as he scanned Gin again.

From his Byakugan's view, Gin's chakra network was a tangled mess of intertwined bloodlines—including both his and his brother's.

"Wasn't Earth constantly at war? Since when did marriage alliances become a trend?"

Hamura was baffled. Last he checked, his brother's descendants were at each other's throats 24/7.

Especially those two major clans—every meeting turned into a fistfight.

Yet here stood this little guy, carrying the legacy of both clans.

"Who knows? Maybe my ancestors had... complicated love lives."

Gin shrugged helplessly. His eyes flickered red and white like a disco ball.

"Not my fault! These eyes change colors on their own~"

"Fine. Even if you are Hagoromo's descendant, there's no denying you also have the Byakugan."

Seeing Gin's exceptional potential, Hamura couldn't help but feel a spark of hope.

His own descendants on Earth—the Hyūga clan—had remained lukewarm and stagnant, their fame dwindling.

His big brother's bloodline, meanwhile, produced legends.

Now, Gin—this rare prodigy with pure Byakugan—might finally restore Hamura's reputation.

A chance to finally lift his head high before his brother!

Hamura's expression softened, warmth and admiration seeping into his gaze.

"Little one... once you return to Earth, would you mind saying you're a descendant of the Ōtsutsuki clan?"
