Chapter 42 - Soul Binding

[NEW CONNECTIONS]

(SCENE)

Ein and James talk while Anya's screams slowly soften on the floor as they realise that she's slowly fading out of consciousness. James asks Ein to quickly tell him how to perform the soul contract so he can remove Anya's slave mark.

Ein tells James that in order to remove the slave mark he needs to use his magic and soul power to carefully break parts of his and her soul so he can reconstruct the missing pieces with the others soul essence, however Ein also said that for the process to begin he'd need the person he wants to perform the binding with to trust him to a certain degree and be conscious through the whole process, otherwise it would lead to resistance from the others soul which could heavily injure and or kill both of them if adequate trust isn't there between the two parties or in case of the other person being unconscious, it would lead to the soul being too weak to perform the process on which could lead to the death of the person the soul binding is trying to be performed on.

James says that he'll try and convince Anya so he can get more information from her, however he doesn't know if he can trust so easily or any method that could keep her conscious, so she doesn't die, when he tries to attempt the soul binding.

Ein tells James he knows a method to keep her awake, however he needs to get her to agree to the soul binding first, and he'll tell him as they start the soul binding and that even if he doesn't trust her the soul binding should still work as it only needs the trust of the target, as magic that works to break down and rebuild the soul can be very risky if not performed properly.

James takes note of what Ein said, then starts to drift his attention back to Anya.

James looks at Anya and notices that she's barely clinging onto consciousness as the pain that she'd inflicted due to the slave mark makes her slowly lose her train of concentration and consciousness. James tell Anya that there's a way for him to remove her slave mark, and her eyes light up as a glimpse of hope flashes past her eyes, however it's quickly let go, as she's tried most everything to try and get rid of the mark, however it all lead to her experiences unbearable pain, even worse than what she was going through as they spoke.

James noticed that Anya was doubtful just by the look in her eyes, however he didn't waver and told her that he knows a method of remove that his so-on 'master' thought him, but he said that the method had a price to pay for booths sides.

Anyas doubt lightened a bit, however she was still hesitant to trust James on the matter. James told her that she would keep experiencing the pain she felt if she didn't trust him and let him at least try to remove the slave mark.

Anya gives in as she'd rather try and have it not work, than not try and never know if it could have actually removed her slave mark.

James notices Anya's expression softens slightly, which he assumes was her giving him permission to start the soul binding process.

(SCENE)

James opens the cage that he had Anya in and goes into it.

James gets to the centre of the cage and sits cross leg-ed next to her, before putting his hands on her neck, and channeling his soul power and mana through his body, into hers. As James channels his power, Ein tells him how to precisely perform the soul binding process in depth, so he doesn't make mistakes that could end with his life ending.

James carefully listens to what Ein says and performs the soul binding to the best of his capabilities at that moment.

Time passes and James tries to complete the soul binding as fast and precisely as possible, without making any detrimental mistakes, during the first few minutes of the soul binding, James manages to ease Anya's pain to a degree with Ein's help, so she doesn't end up unconscious and dying midway through.

After easing Anya's pain, James slows his pace a little bit, so he can take more time to think of what to do next as Ein is directing him during the soul binding.

James begins to pour more of his mana into Anya, until her whole body has a trace of his mana in it. As James directs his mana to all her nocks and crannies, he begins to pour in his soul power in her body and extracts some of her mana and soul power, so he can merge their mana and soul power.

James begins to sweat a little as the process of extracting and circulating mana and soul power throughout her body is a little more taxing than he thought it would be.

James eventually manages to synchronize his and Anya's mana, and begins to break down and reconstruct their souls, so he can properly form the soul bind.

Anya eases up more and relaxes a little bit, along with trusting James a bit more, as her pain has only gotten less and less intense as James has been trying to remove her soul mark.

James breaks down his and Anya's soul and notices that it's easier than how it was just a moment ago, Ein tells him that if it's easier it's probably because Anya's trust in James went up by a bit, which causes there to be less resistance from her soul.

James internally grins for a second then refocuses on the task he has at hand.

Time passes and James nears compilation of breaking down their souls, before starting to reconstruct them.

Ein tells James that their at a critical moment, and that he needs to fuse his and Anya souls together using some of both their life force so their soul essence doesn't end up going back to the void.

James asked what the difference between life force and soul power was, and EIn told him that life force was gotten from emotions and experiences from one's life, and isn't set in stone as to how much one can possess, so he shouldn't worry about lessening how long he could live after.

James laughs and says even if it would reduce the amount of years he could live,it's far too late for him to give up as they've gone so far with it.

Ein doesn't say much and lets James be

James then proceeds to ask Ein where he could access his life force, for the soul binding but Ein told him that he had it handled, so he should stay focused on what he's doing at hand.

James continues recontrusting his and Anya's souls, as Ein uses their life force to make sure that their souls don't end up in the void.

After ten or so minutes, James eventually finishes reconstructing his and Anya's souls, and Ein tells him that the last step of the soul binding consists of a verbal saying that will tether their souls together.

Ein tells James an ancient saying for the soul binding and James proceeds to tell Anya the saying, and makes her say it at the same time as him.

Anya and James say the saying and a prompt shows up in his system menu, asking him to confirm the soul binding, Anya hears a voice in her head, asking if she wants to confirm the soul binding and both of them agree to the binding.

Moments later, James and Anya begin to glow a deep red and gold colour, before a string shows up out of nowhere and each end enters their bodies as it tethers them together.

James asks Ein if the soul contract is complete, and is told that it is.

Anya's slave mark appears on her neck once more, but slowly starts to disappear, before completely being removed.

(SCENE)

James successfully forms a soul contract with Anya and breaks the slave contract that she was bound by.

Anya stands up from where she was laid on the floor.
