Aurora immediately cut the call.
She had already broken up with him, what he did she couldn't forgive – never.
He was a major part of the reason she was leaving Moonville.
She couldn't hold back her tears as she let it flow.
She threw her phone to the side and tossed her duvet to the side. She stood and checked the time and saw that it was still too early but she had no intention of heading back to bed.
She went downstairs, straight for her kitchen to have a cup of warm milk to help her out.
Exhaustion was already creeping in as she stood beside the counter.
'You are just a pathetic excuse,
I never loved you
Your parents died and it's all your fault
You are a fucking waste of time.'
These thoughts came flooding back as she reminisced about their past argument and the words he mostly used.
*******
Until, one time in their three years of dating each other, he abused her for refusing to give herself to him.
She met him at the club when she was just nineteen and him, twenty-six.
He was everything she ever wanted and was assured a good life. Heck –he promised to wait and have her consent before he made any advances.
But everything stopped one night on her 21th birthday, poor Aurora didn't know the kind of beast he was and what he'd planned.
They had the celebration in a quiet manner in his apartment, everything was fine and good till he started making some inappropriate advances towards her.
She felt uncomfortable and tried explaining that she wasn't ready yet and wanted to wait until marriage.
And that was when it happened – he slapped her across the face, pushed her against the wall screaming all sorts of names and threw her out of his apartment in the cold November night.
She walked back home in shame with tear stained cheeks. Her tears were blurring her vision but still managed to reach home.
He'd come the next day apologizing and had that look of guilt explaining to her that he never meant to hurt her and how he blamed his abusive dad and his mother's early passing away.
Aurora being naive, forgave him and his excuses.
But the abuse became worse over time as he went from slapping to emotionally and physically abusing her seriously.
They'd broken up a year ago but he still kept on disturbing her peace. He'd chatted several times in their relationship since she couldn't provide his 'needs' as a man then.
And now he called.
She regretted not blocking him on all her socials and contacts…or maybe something else held her back.
But what…?
She headed back upstairs refusing to answer that question to herself.
*****
Click sounds could be heard as Aurora sat in front of her computer.
The first thing she did in the morning was to research places she would move to.
The first town that held her intrigue was Halewoods, unlike the others she'd seen she loved this place the most.
She saw it the previous month but still wanted to research other places.
She called in and Sandra wasn't thrilled. She'd have to deal with Lucy –alone.
Oh boy.
But was mostly worried about Aurora.
"Aurora are you sick – if you are you can stay a week or Soo if you want, I can ask–
"Sandra I'm fine, just surfing the internet, I'm making adequate preparations."
"Of what?" Sandra asked with a hint of curiosity in her voice. She was cleaning up the beds but mostly dreading that of Lucy's as she had kicked her out before to not touch her bed.
Aurora didn't want to tell her yet, "just surfing around and i feel a bit sick.. that's all."
The silence over the line was long and enough for Aurora to know that Sandra was still skeptical about what she just said.
"Okay then, I'll see you around later – take care." Sandra said but she felt like something was off about Aurora this morning.
Sandra wanted to ask if she was going to be free but decided against it.
"I will."
The call ended but Aurora didn't want to tell anyone yet.
The motivation she had to go through the internet this morning was because of Derrick.
She knew what a psycho he was and decided to hurry up the process and leave Moonville as soon as she could.
With a new thing to do in mind, she needed to officially quit her job at the club, with the hopes of never getting to see any of him in future.
But the thought of going back to that club made her feel chills.
She knew it wasn't safe at all to go there alone but can't she try?
She headed straight to get a quick shower.
Just in a casual outfit of jeans and a purple shirt.
She had no motivation to leave home today but she really needed to do this and she did.
Checking herself in front of her mirror, she put on light make-up, twirled around and headed downstairs.
As usual, she had a breakfast of coffee and left.
The morning was sunny. Such a bright day for her, and for once she felt good and it smelled like summer.
She couldn't explain how it happened but she felt nice but there was this dread feeling tugging on her heart and mind.
Finally deciding on quitting the club job, she could feel herself two steps away from actually leaving Moonville.
She took a cab today and was able to make it in 20 minutes to 'Toxin.'
The name of the club –weird right?
She tipped the driver as she stood in front of the club, the place she first met Derrick and regretted till today.
She showed her work ID card to the guards and was allowed to meet their boss – Viktor.
She was allowed a pass as she stood in front of his office door.
She took a deep inhale and exhaled before knocking.
"Come in."
The gruff voice of Viktor was heard from inside.
Although she'd worked here a few years, she still had some sort of this weird energy around Viktor and was always a bit nervous around him.
She gracefully entered and Viktor stared and had a devious smirk on his face.
"What brings you here…Aurora?"
"Take a seat." He ordered, taking a good look at her.
The office had a nice aesthetic, with the dark colors black and oxblood used in the paintings.
Behind him there was a larger picture frame of himself and a really gorgeous woman in a white silk dress.
The two guards standing at each side of his table were just creeping her out.
But she complied, she didn't want to give off a sign of weakness.
"I came to quit." She went straight to the point.
There was a long pause in the office, nobody uttered a word, not a sound.
She felt off and her composure was slowly fading off.
Laughter echoed around the whole office, it wasn't the laughter that scared her but who was behind that laugh.
Viktor stood from his seat and stood in all his 6 '2 ft frame glory. The smell of his cologne was heavy in the air with a mix of danger around him.
Viktor watched her closely. He already knew the reason she was here.
Viktor and Derrick have been close over the years –more like partners in the cartel business.
He was the one who introduced Aurora to Derrick as a distraction.
But seeing how his friend fucked up , he wasn't quite happy about it and knew that was exactly why Aurora was here.
"You want to quit?" He asked, his Mexican accent rippling through his voice with a tone that had a mix of mockery and fake concern, which was too disturbing for Aurora.
"Yes Viktor… I want to quit." She repeated a bit bolder, trying not to show signs of nervousness.
The guards' stare made her feel chill crawling around her body.
He glanced at the guards and with a little nod of his head, they left.
Such a bold move for her to make, –nobody talks to him in such a manner nor called him by his name.
Aurora felt her fingers shaking, her gut feeling was off. Her throat tightened as her nerves increased.
Viktor walked slowly behind her to the door with precise steps.
'CLACK!'
"Aurora…I heard from Derrick that you have been a 'brat' lately." His voice was two octaves lower.
She felt disgust crawling through her body, jaw clenched in anger.
"That's none of your business Viktor, and it was a year ago." She stared him straight in the eye.
Any thoughts of fear or anxiety flew out the window at this point.
He watched her like a prey as he twirled the rings on his fingers silently.
Looks like it's the hard way then.
'CLICK!'
