Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 – Vantage Points and Whispered Names

Arriving on the rooftop right next to the action down below, I sit on the ledge and get comfortable.

Just like in the anime, I see Bakugo struggling in the grasp of the sludge villain, slowly getting suffocated.

"That must suck..." I mutter. But well — I'm only the spectator.

I smirk at how ridiculous my current situation is.

"All this strength, and I couldn't even do anything... even if I wanted to."A whisper."Not that I do."

As the situation devolves into madness, I watch the heroes stand by on the sidelines, doing absolutely nothing. They're too busy debating how their quirks aren't suited for the current situation.

"Some heroes you lot are..."

No matter how unrealistic it may sound, the only people I truly hold as heroes are those who sacrifice themselves — those who achieve everything they wanted in the name of the greater good. But these 'heroes'?

"They're a glorified police force. Too concerned about consequences to do anything productive."

I sit there in silence, pondering what I consider to be a true hero.

"...They haven't noticed me?"

Especially Mt. Lady. I mean, she's giant for god's sake and she doesn't see me sitting right next to her?

I glance at their faces and come to a simple conclusion.

"They're worried..."

Yes, they're so focused on the chaos unfolding that they haven't even begun to notice me.

"I guess they're not that bad," I say with a light smirk.

Looking toward the crowd near the alleyway's entrance, I spot a kid with green hair trying to get a closer look at what's happening. Shifting my gaze further back, I see what can only be described as a walking corpse.

"All Might... He looks even worse in person."

"I wonder how strong I am compared to his weakened self...? Am I wrong in saying I'm probably stronger?"

[Host, I recommend you don't do anything excessive.]

"I know, I know... Not like I can start a fight with him anyway."I say that, but a maniacal smile still creeps onto my face.

[...]

"It's that feeling again..."

Just like two weeks ago, when I was told I couldn't fight as I pleased — and now, standing before a dominant presence of this world.

In the first situation, I felt unnaturally angry. And now?

"I'm incredibly excited," I whisper, that same maniacal smile stuck to my face.

Just as I'm finishing my thoughts, Deku — shorter than I expected — rushes toward the villain, backpack in hand.

The scene plays out exactly like it does in the anime: frantic, desperate, reckless. With both boys ultimately being saved by All Might.

[In commemoration of witnessing a key moment in the plot, as well as it being the first major event observed, the Host has earned a significant reward.]

Seeing that my work here is done, I stand and get ready to leave — but not before I intentionally leak a trace of my oppressive aura toward All Might.

He notices.

Looking up at me, he tenses his muscles, his face turning serious.

"That's all I needed to know."I grin and vanish from the rooftop.

All Might – POV

Having saved the two boys, I linger for a moment as the green-haired kid I met earlier gets chewed out by the other heroes.

"A hero..."

Thinking about that boy — and what he asked me not long ago — I begin to reconsider.

"It's about time I found a successor..."

But before my thoughts can go any further, I sense something.

A gaze. A presence. Watching me from above.

Turning my head, my body instinctively tenses.

There, on the rooftop, stands a man — a towering figure with a battle-hardened air. His black hair is swept back in a messy yet deliberate way, framing sharp, calculating eyes that gleam with quiet menace. His body is lean, but densely packed with muscle — not gym muscle, but forged-through-bloodshed muscle. Scars lace his skin like a map of war. He stands like a predator — silent, confident, and deadly.

Before I can even react, he grins at me...and disappears.

A haunting premonition seeps into my bones.

"From such a vantage point... he could see everything."

A cold sweat breaks across my brow.

"Did he see me... transform...?"

I think back on his grin — calm, satisfied, dangerous.

Before anyone notices my distress, I leave the scene and speed toward U.A.

"I need to tell Nezu."

But before I get too far, I glance back at the green-haired boy.

"I should talk to him first..."

Kensou – POV

Satisfied with my first spectating session, I return to my apartment to check on my reward.

"Okay, System. Do your thing."

[Host, your rewards are as follows:— 1 Weapon Selector Ticket— 1 Inventory Spirit Design Ticket]

"Well, the first one's self-explanatory. But the second..."

"But let's go one at a time. A weapon selector, huh? What are the limitations?"

[The Host may select any weapon that is roughly equal to their current power level.]

"Reasonable... but I don't think I need a weapon right now. I can save it, right?"

[Transferring Weapon Selector Ticket to Host's inventory.]

(AUTHOR'S NOTE: recommend me something — I'm leaning toward a scythe or the Inverted Spear of Heaven, but that'll come later.)

"That answers that..." I frown."I have an inventory?"

[The Host has always had an inventory. You just had no way to access it. That's what the Inventory Spirit Design Ticket is for.]

"...Sigh."

"So what exactly is it?"

[Just like Toji Fushiguro's cursed spirit in Jujutsu Kaisen, the concept is the same — except you can choose its appearance and store anything: weapons, tools, general goods.]

"Simple enough. And once again... convenient. Maybe you should rename yourself to the Convenience System."I smirk at my own stupid joke.

[...;;]

"A design for a spirit, huh...? Will I have to stick my hand in its mouth like with Toji's?"A hint of disgust crosses my face.

[Negative, Host. The spirit is a symbolic visualization with its own personality and body. You can treat it like a pet — a cat, a dog, or anything else.]

Hearing that, I start scrolling through my memory — specifically one franchise.

"Pokémon..."

Scanning through the different designs of Pokemon I find a few I like like Aegislash or the Eeveelutions.

But ultimately I lock in on one that particularly catches my attention.

"System, make my inventory spirit look like Hisuian Zorua. Also, can it be capable of evolving?"

[Processing Host's inquiry...]

I wait with anticipation, hoping for a—

[The Host's request for an evolution function has been granted, under one condition:— The method for evolution must remain unknown to the Host.]

"So I can't know how to evolve it, huh...? Very well. Do your thing."

[Processing Host's request...]

It happens almost immediately.

Blue particles begin coalescing in front of me, suspended in the air. Slowly, they form the shape of a Hisuian Zorua — my first companion on this journey.

[Request complete.]

The spirit opens its eyes and looks at me — but only for a second before it begins to fall.

Moving with uncharacteristic panic, I catch her mid-fall.

"...Her?"

Looking into her eyes, something clicks.

We're spiritually connected, at least that's how I would describe it.

Ultimately I'm not sure how it works, but I can sense her clearly.

'You can hear my thoughts, correct?'

She nods.

A small smile finds its way to my face.

"Adorable."

Bringing her closer to my chest, I start gently petting her and ponder the most important point.

"A name..."

Calling her Zorua all the time just feels... wrong.

She stares back — red eyes wide, patient, expectant.

"Yurei," I finally decide."You're like a whisper between worlds."

Her ears twitch. I can feel her approval — warm and silent.

"Yurei it is."

"So... how do I use the inventory function?"

Expecting an explanation, I instead receive memories.

Not from the system.

From her — curled in my arms, emitting a sound I can only assume is purring.

"She is seriously adorable..." I mutter.

Her ears twitch in delight.

I lie back on the bed, settling in for sleep, letting Yurei rest on my chest. She seems most comfortable there.

"Good thing I sleep on my back... wouldn't want to crush this adorable little critter."

Pretending to sleep, her ears twitch again — and I smile.

"System, do I have to spectate the entirety of Deku's training arc?"

I need to know — it'll determine my next ten months.

[Host, Midoriya Izuku's training arc holds no significant plot rewards. My advice: avoid All Might for now. He's extremely on guard against you.]

"...So I'm free for ten months, huh."

Patting Yurei on my chest, I begin to plan my next move.
