Chapter 53 - Chapter 53 The Guild (XVII)

"Lay it on me, Adam. You are able to create maps of places we explore, yes? Have you got a reading on this compound?", I asked Adam.

[While you chatted away with Ahsoka, I allowed the scanner to get a reading of what lies ahead of us. It is included as part of the passive scanner function, but if you wish to read maps at will, all you need to do is press and hold the right side of your helmet, just like how you have had your visor activated in the past. It will display a feed of the map above me inside your visor.] Adam said, explaining the situation.

So I really do have a map function, and I don't always have to rely on Adam to use it. Score!

Normally Samus would hold onto her helmet to scan around. Adam removed that part, kept the method, and replaced it with an on and off switch to read maps. How nifty.

[And since I am with you on this mission, I have taken the liberty in using it.] Adam continued. A soft hum of the Power Suit struck against my ears. All of a sudden, my eyes were attracted to the space above Adam on my visor. It really displayed a full three-dimensional map of the compound before me. I could even see a few markers on the map. It wasn't just that. There was a tiny arrowhead-like arrow indicating my present position.

And seeing the scale of this place, it's quite large, isn't it? Not just fit for a couple members of the Black Sun. I very well could likely encounter tens, or perhaps hundreds of members here. While reviewing the map, I saw Adam start using it, and the three dots blinked in unison.

[The current status of the compound indicates there are three entrances. There is the main gate, which is heavily guarded and is secured with a biometric lock. There is a maintenance hatch off to the side also secured with the same lock. Unless you kill one of the Black Suns and get their biosignature, these two will do you no good. You could brute force your way through, but this is an infiltration. They detect you, and it's over.] Adam said, answering me.

"Yeah, and we don't want that. I see a much smaller entrance that you haven't pointed out yet. Is that feasible?", I asked.

[For you it should, Samus. It is a narrow ventilation shaft. Unreachable by normal standards. Since you have Space Jump Boots active, you should be able to jump upward while in Morph Ball to head inside it. Once you have found a large enough space, you can unmorph. Avoid any motion sensors until you have located your target.] Adam continued.

"Morph ball huh...", I uttered, hearing that. "Guess it really is time to test it out."

As I said that, I pressed against my helmet, and willed the map, letting it zoom in even further. The map distorted, and it soon highlighted the current routes that Black Sun were currently patrolling. It expanded out vastly, not keeping it to just the compound. There were very few blindspots.

"Ventilation shaft it is.", I said, my vision regained.

[Good luck, Samus. Remain vigilant of your surroundings.] Adam said, and stopped talking. I saw his AI turn still, but he was still there. Unless he had something else to speak about, I'll let him continue collecting data.

"Let's do this.", I uttered, gaining confidence. I willed my Gravity Suit, and it shimmered, blending into the dark skyline beyond us. In tandem, my Space Jump Boots activated, and propelled me forward. Thanks to my Gravity Suit, my silhouette vanished into the darkness of the night. I clenched my right fist, ready to apply Grapple Beam at a moment's notice. Arriving at a nearby wall, the Grapple Beam activated, and latched onto a pipe hanging above. Its blue glow shimmered, and it carried me across in a smooth arc. I quickly released it, and crouched, arriving closer to my destination. Beep. Beep. Beep.

Three beeps echoed inside my visor, and Adam spoke out again.

[I am detecting three sentries near the shaft. Security is strict.] Adam said. In response to that, it took a moment, but I was able to confirm them. I saw two blasters on two of them, and a repeating cannon on the third.

It was dark, but my vision was clear enough to make a decision. My Power Beam activated. It hummed softly.

"Are you able to turn on the Heat Visor? This might be best if I want to determine my path forward once I'm inside.", I asked quietly.

[Consider it done.] Adam said. All of a sudden, my vision blurred again. It remained dark, but the figures nearby changed colors. It now released their heat signatures, allowing me to spot them much more clearly. Seeing this, I grinned. Crouching, I aligned my Power Beam.

"It's just business.", I murmured, taking measured breaths. Bang. Bang. Bang!

"Did you hear that just now---?", One of the three Black Sun sentries questioned, trying to look in a particular direction. Unfortunately for him, his head suddenly exploded once the Power Beam. SPLAT!

Different-colored guts suddenly splattered onto the remaining two sentries.

"Enemy Attack! Sound---!?", The second one said, only to meet the same fate as the first one. SPLAT!

"Too late bud.", I murmured to myself, seeing the second corpse fall onto the ground. The third one carrying the heavy cannon couldn't even do anything before his head also exploded from the blast. SPLAT!

I had just killed three people...Er, aliens? Criminals? I am not sure. But I felt nothing once their three corpses fell onto the ground. No remorse appeared in my eyes. Just stillness, following the hum of my Power Beam that was quickly regenerating its energy.

Is it because I'm in Samus's body to which she's already adapted to this? If this was my own body, I likely would have thrown up just seeing this sight, let alone the stench of death now lurking toward me.

But I felt nothing.

A single thought remained inside my head. I just needed to complete this mission to secure my ride upward toward the rest of the capital.

Whoosh!

I swooped downward, arriving near the shaft, and confirmed these three were dead. Their guts were stinking up the pace. Looting their bodies, I found some Huttese chits, increasing my overall wealth once more. Don't mind if I do~

[Area clear.] Adam spoke, it was calm. Collected. He too is used to me killing. Or perhaps he's used to Samus killing? [I am detecting no signatures nearby apart from the main gate. You are free to proceed.]

"Copy that.", I said. Looking upward, I felt a constant breezy air strike against my Gravity Suit. The hole was square, and was quite tight where it stood. (A/N: Giggity)

Still, there was enough space. Not big enough for me to squeeze with my body. But enough for a certain sphere to head on inside. The only question was...how do I activate Morph Ball?

[Just think of it, and it will happen. Do not let this cloud your thoughts.] Adam said, as if he was responding to the doubt in my eyes. Hearing this, I chuckled. Any remaining doubt I had was swept away.

"Heh, you know me so well, Adam.", I replied, and no longer hesitated. It reacted to my body. Memories flowed. I jumped in place. My figure began to twist and distorted. Hmmm!

Curling into a ball, my eyesight remained where it was just a moment ago. It saw the shaft, but I was now in Morph Ball. It felt strange. Compact even. I felt a lot less heavy while in this mode. But I listened to my body. It moved.

Aligning myself with the shaft, my new spherical body jumped upward, and headed inside!
