"Unohana-taichō, could you finish writing the last character on that document before saying that? And besides, didn't we just spar yesterday
"Unohana-taichō, could you finish writing the last character on that document before saying that? And besides, didn't we just spar yesterday?"
Unohana Retsu didn't respond; her expression remained unchanged.
However, the room's temperature dropped several degrees.
Fourth Division, Training Ground Four. A dojo-like building stood before the three of them.
At Shiba Kūkaku's insistence, Kyōraku Callum had brought her along.
Inside the dojo, Kyōraku Callum and Unohana Retsu each took a wooden sword from a nearby rack. Using Zanpakutō for practice would cause too much damage; they usually used wooden swords for kendo practice.
Unohana Retsu, wielding a wooden sword, was unlike her usual calm self.
A sharp fighting spirit emanated from her, lending her an unusual beauty.
"Kyōraku-kun," she said. "As always, try your best to please me."
A bead of sweat trickled down Kyōraku Callum's forehead. Was this Unohana Retsu's cunning side? The layers of meaning in her words would make even a seasoned veteran blush!
"I'll go first," Unohana Retsu said, raising her wooden sword. Her figure vanished.
Clang! The expected dull thud of wood on wood, amplified by their fighting spirit, resonated like metal on metal. As Unohana Retsu's strikes accelerated, sonic booms erupted.
Kyōraku Callum's counterattacks were equally fierce, a storm of blows.
Their battle contained no spiritual pressure, yet the power of their intent was overwhelming.
Shiba Kūkaku watched, astonished. "Kyōraku-kun is that strong? Why didn't Brother ever mention this?"
The intensity of their kendo escalated. Kyōraku Callum's strikes increased in speed, incorporating a unique Shunpo technique into his swordsmanship.
Crack! The sound of splintering wood echoed as their swords collided. The match ended!
Unohana Retsu stared, surprised, at her broken wooden sword. "Just one day later…" Kyōraku Callum's sword had also snapped, almost simultaneously.
"It seems we've reached a draw," Kyōraku Callum said, holding up his broken sword.
Unohana Retsu looked surprised, then smiled gently. "In kendo, there's only victory or defeat, no draws. Everyone's understanding of kendo is different. Victory is victory; there's no need to consider my feelings."
Shiba Kūkaku, seemingly from nowhere, produced a small notebook and began writing furiously, occasionally looking up with a look of enlightenment. "I see!"
After putting away the broken swords, Kyōraku Callum approached her, curious. "What are you writing?"
Shiba Kūkaku opened her notebook, and Kyōraku Callum, peering over her shoulder, read aloud, "Kyōraku's type: gentle, mature woman. She should restrain her actions and personality, aiming to emulate Unohana-taichō…"
Before he could finish reading the rest, the temperature in Training Ground Four plummeted to freezing. Unohana Retsu froze in place.
Realizing the danger, Kyōraku Callum grabbed Shiba Kūkaku's hand. "Run!"
The terrifying spiritual pressure of the first Kenpachi instantly filled the training ground. Fortunately, Kyōraku Callum had already moved away before the full force hit.
Back in the Sixth Squad barracks, Kyōraku Callum finally relaxed.
"Why were you writing… that in your notebook?" he asked.
Shiba Kūkaku laughed loudly. "Haha, is that even a question? Of course, it's to become the kind of person he likes!"
Kyōraku Callum realized then that Shiba Kūkaku was different.
Her forthright nature extended to her expressions of affection.
She was tenacious and wouldn't be deterred by setbacks.
Especially after noticing Unohana Retsu's unusual attitude towards Kyōraku Callum, she became vigilant.
She wouldn't easily give up the fiancé she'd just found.
The next day, Kyōraku Callum watched as Shiba Kūkaku excitedly ran towards the Integrated Medical Facility, calling back that she'd be back.
"What a bold personality," he murmured.
[New check-in task issued. Please check in at the Eleventh Division and battle Kenpachi Zaraki.]
[Task reward: Shikai's second ability.]
After watching Shiba Kūkaku leave, Kyōraku Callum heard the familiar system notification. The task content, however, caused him some concern.
"What kind of check-in task is this? Go to the Eleventh Division, check in, and fight Kenpachi Zaraki?" Kyōraku Callum pondered this.
After three minutes, he gave up. Why waste brain cells? He had to complete the check-in task regardless.
Shikai's second ability… He thought about the first ability, wondering what this reward would be. He needed a good reason to go to the Eleventh Division.
While contemplating this in the barracks, the Sixth Squad's vice-captain, Hanataro Yamada, knocked on his door.
"Kyōraku-sama, the Eleventh Division requires your presence."
Kyōraku Callum opened the door, excited. "What's happening at the Eleventh Division?"
