Chapter 68 - BUTZ: Chapter 68

Mayuri Kurotsuchi finished his work, a sinister smile playing on his lips. He whispered, "Kyōraku Callum has arrived. The experiment can proceed!"

Creak— As Kyōraku Callum examined the interior of the Development Bureau, the red door suddenly opened. Mayuri Kurotsuchi, a strange smile on his face, stepped out, Nemu Kurotsuchi close behind.

"Kyōraku Callum, this is our second meeting," Kurotsuchi said. "Welcome to the Technical Development Bureau!"

Kyōraku Callum responded perfunctorily. "It's an honor. So, what do you need?"

The intense work atmosphere wasn't suitable for Kyōraku Callum's laid-back personality.

"Don't rush," Kurotsuchi said, his voice as strange as his personality. "Scientific research most abhors impatience. Please follow me."

Under Kurotsuchi's guidance, Kyōraku Callum entered the forbidden area. The scientific technology here was far more advanced than anywhere else in Seireitei, illuminated by a bright white light—not the usual Kidō light.

It seemed to be formed from spiritual particles arranged in a special way.

The technological level was beyond Kyōraku Callum's imagination.

Science truly was the primary productive force. If his specialty wasn't different, he would have loved to study it.

He shook his head in disappointment and followed Kurotsuchi.

The room was large, its walls inscribed with complex Kidō runes.

Based on Kyōraku Callum's Kidō expertise, these seemed related to spatial technology.

After passing through several confined corridors, they arrived at a spacious hall. Dozens of workbenches were arranged in a circle around a transparent glass enclosure.

To Kyōraku Callum's surprise, the spiritual particle density here was comparable to the Noble District.

Kurotsuchi seemed to guess his thoughts, grinning. "A high spiritual particle density is ideal for experiments."

Kyōraku Callum nodded, offering no opinion.

This was the Twelfth Division's business, not his.

However, his curiosity intensified.

"Captain Kurotsuchi, why did you summon me?" Kyōraku Callum asked.

Kurotsuchi finally stopped.

He extended a purple hand, pointing towards the glass enclosure in the center of the workbench—a structure taller than a person.

"What do you sense within?" Kurotsuchi asked.

Kyōraku Callum extended his spiritual pressure.

He immediately sensed something amiss. The seemingly transparent glass enclosure felt intensely oppressive under his spiritual sense.

"Spatial energy?" Kyōraku Callum deduced.

Kurotsuchi's smile widened. "I didn't choose the wrong person after all! To be precise, this is a section of the Dangai."

Kyōraku Callum was shocked. The Dangai—multiple layers of severed space overlapping, surrounded by a torrent of time, where the time density was overwhelmingly higher than the outside world—two thousand times higher, to be exact.

A year outside would be two thousand years inside the Dangai. How did Kurotsuchi obtain this space-time anomaly?

"Captain Kurotsuchi, how did you isolate a section of the Dangai?" Kyōraku Callum asked, not doubting Kurotsuchi's words.

His Zanpakutō, Shiga, made him intimately familiar with spatial and temporal energies.

Even before Kurotsuchi mentioned the Dangai, he had sensed its overwhelming power.

"A fortunate coincidence," Kurotsuchi replied, slightly puzzled. "I'm not entirely sure myself. It involves spiritual particle turbulence, spiritual pressure division, multiple spatial transformations, and chaotic time particles…"

He rattled off a series of terms Kyōraku Callum understood individually but not collectively. It was beyond his current knowledge.

Kyōraku Callum chuckled wryly. Though he was more knowledgeable about space and time than most, Kurotsuchi's technical jargon was beyond his comprehension.

"I invited you to manipulate this Dangai space using your control over space," Kurotsuchi explained excitedly, his eccentric personality on full display. "Among those I know, your Zanpakutō is the only one with the ability to freeze space."

Kyōraku Callum understood.

It was all because of Shiga. He'd investigated the Dangai before, but to no avail.

But a captured section of the Dangai?

Kyōraku Callum's interest was piqued.

"I wish to collaborate with you," Kurotsuchi said, outwardly expressing sincerity, though his true intentions remained unknown.

In the Gotei 13, Kyōraku Callum distrusted Aizen and Kurotsuchi above all others.

The mad scientist's personality meant he was capable of anything.

"Collaborate?" Kyōraku Callum repeated.

Kurotsuchi spread his hands, his long fingers gesturing.

"The Dangai space is of immense significance to the Development Bureau, and even the entire Seireitei. Yet, countless secrets remain."

Kyōraku Callum nodded with a smile. "What does the Development Bureau or the Seireitei have to do with me?"

The audacious statement, from a high-ranking noble, was astonishing.

Kurotsuchi was taken aback, stunned.

He recovered, his expression turning playful.

"Unexpected, Kyōraku Callum," he said, using a respectful tone, clearly acknowledging Kyōraku Callum's words. "But what if researching the Dangai space makes you stronger?"

Kyōraku Callum smirked. "Happy to cooperate!"

Kurotsuchi grinned maniacally, his voice low. "Happy to cooperate!"

The research into this section of the Dangai began. Kyōraku Callum was also curious about its secrets.

For a long time to come, Kyōraku Callum became a frequent visitor to the Technical Development Bureau.
