Chapter 45 - BUTZ: Chapter 45

Thirty-one Eleventh Division members roared as they charged into the mass of Hollows.

With swift strikes, Gillians fell under their Zanpakutō, dissolving into spiritual particles.

The Gillians, lacking individual consciousness, knew no fear; they simply obeyed the commands of higher-level Hollows: devour all invaders!

The battle between Shinigami and Hollows began.

There was no intricate interplay of Hadō and Bakudō; only powerful, spiritually charged strikes.

"Extend, Hōzukimaru!" Madarame Ikkaku laughed maniacally, joining his Zanpakutō and scabbard, releasing his Zanpakutō's true name.

"Split Apart Hōzukimaru! Three Sectional Staff!"

The battle intensified.

Led by Madarame Ikkaku, the thirty members released their Shikai. While the power wasn't overwhelming, it boosted their combat capabilities.

Hundreds of Gillians surged from the darkness, their large, black bodies like long cloaks. Emotionless masks adorned their heads; their gaping maws emitted guttural roars.

"Die!" The sound echoed far and wide.

"Shut up and die!" Madarame Ikkaku leaped into the air.

"Flash!" His powerful body pulsed with red spiritual pressure as he flashed through the air.

Slash! Several Gillians split in two like cloth, dissolving into spiritual particles.

A large gap opened before the Shinigami, but before they could breathe a sigh of relief, more Gillians filled the void.

Endless slaughter!

The First Division Shinigami quickly became bloodthirsty, wave after wave of Gillians dissolving back into Hueco Mundo.

"What boundless energy!"

Dozens of figures appeared on the tall quartz trees.

Their grotesquely twisted faces were a testament to the wonders of creation; they all shared a common feature: grisly bone masks covering their cheeks, revealing rows of sharp teeth.

"Their fighting style is similar to the last group of Shinigami who entered the Great Forest of Menos," one said.

"So what? They'll still die here."

"The delicious souls of Shinigami... I want to eat them!"

Overlapping voices echoed through the forest.

"Adjuchas!" Yumichika Ayasegawa recognized the Hollows perched on the branches. They used the Gillians to deplete the Shinigami's spiritual pressure, striking at the last moment.

The Great Forest of Menos had an endless supply of Gillians, the perfect cannon fodder.

"Release Cero!"

The Gillians in the front ranks continued their suicidal charges. Those in the rear opened their mouths, gathering crimson spiritual pressure.

Red orbs formed in their mouths—the Gillians' strongest attack: Cero!

Crimson light flashed, piercing the gaps in the front ranks, heading straight for the Shinigami.

"Hadō #31. Shakkahō!"

A unified shout echoed from behind the Eleventh Division, powerful spiritual pressure coalescing.

Before Madarame Ikkaku and the others could turn, they felt intense heat. Dozens of crimson flames whizzed past them.

Shakkyōhō vs. Cero!

BOOM!

Continuous explosions erupted at the point of impact.

The blinding light threatened to illuminate the entire Great Forest of Menos.

The Eleventh Division members stared in shock at the Fourth Division members behind them. The supposed support squad had unleashed terrifying power.

Their unchanted Hadō #31 had stopped dozens of Gillians' combined Cero attack.

What in the world is going on?!

Hanatarō Yamada and the others breathed heavily, excitement on their faces.

They saw the shock on the other divisions' faces—this was the result of their hard work!

Nelliel buried her face in Kyōraku Callum's arms, afraid to look out. The explosions, strikes, and roars were like the end of the world to her. Only the warmth of his embrace offered any comfort.

Kyōraku Callum patted her head, his gaze sharp as he looked at Hanatarō Yamada.

"Join the fight," he said. "Let those so-called combat divisions and the Hollows see what true combat is!"

Kyōraku Callum wanted to see what surprises the 6th Medical Squad had in store after a year of training. While he knew their strength from their sparring sessions, those sessions were different; he never went all out, and neither did the 6th Medical Squad.

Moreover, the gap in strength between him and his squad was too vast to truly assess their progress.

"Yes, Lieutenant!" Hanatarō Yamada and the others roared, their momentum/spirit no less imposing than the Eleventh Division's.

Clang!

Led by their vice-captain, the 6th Medical Squad drew their Zanpakutō and joined the fray.

The First Division Shinigami stared, dumbfounded.

Their swords slowed.

"Is... is this still the Fourth Division?

Aren't they supposed to be support, healing our wounds? Why... why are they fighting like the captain?"

The First Division's fighting style was already brutal, but it paled in comparison to the Fourth Division's.

They feared no wounds, no pain; their only goal was to defeat their enemies.

"With my wounds, I take their lives!" Hanatarō Yamada shouted, Shunpoing through the Gillians, delivering multiple strikes that severed their heads.

The other squad members followed closely, maintaining formation.

"Callum, is this fighting style really safe?" Madarame Ikkaku, having momentarily cleared his opponents, found himself with a moment's respite.
