Chapter 43 - BUTZ: Chapter 43

"Gulp." A collective swallow, seemingly triggered by the scene before them, caused a ripple of unease; every Shinigami felt a sudden dryness in their throats.

"For something like this, just burn it to ash," Kyōraku Callum said, his smile sending a chill down their spines.

Runuganga's immunity to blade attacks was true, its weakness being water. But Kyōraku Callum didn't bother with water-based Kidō; he simply used Hekireki. Burning the soul to ash negated any need for strategic considerations.

The giant figure writhed under the intense flames. Within three breaths, it was reduced to nothingness.

"See? That easy," Kyōraku Callum said, casually retracting his finger. With his current spiritual pressure, killing Runuganga was effortless. "But Runuganga usually guards Las Noches. Why is it in the outer reaches?"

Kyōraku Callum frowned, gazing into the distance. Based on their progress, Las Noches was still far away. Runuganga's presence suggested they'd alerted the Arrancar within Las Noches. While he wasn't afraid, the same couldn't be said for his squad members. A full-scale Arrancar assault could be disastrous.

Hopefully, I'm wrong, he muttered, ordering the squad to continue. The Great Forest of Menos was still some distance away.

This time, they stayed together. Runuganga's appearance had already cost them, and in the treacherous Hueco Mundo, weaker members needed to stick together. Kyōraku Callum led the way.

Seeing their lieutenant's back, the Fourth Division members felt an unprecedented sense of security. Perhaps Lieutenant Kyōraku already possesses the strength of a Gotei 13 captain, Hanatarō Yamada and the others thought.

Another day of endless searching. Kyōraku Callum and his squad found more Shinigami traces, but they were now in the inner Hueco Mundo. Las Noches lay ahead. Kyōraku Callum might have ventured in alone to satisfy his curiosity, but with his squad, caution was necessary.

The unchanging desert, with quartz trees emerging from the sand, made Kyōraku Callum realize something.

"The Great Forest of Menos... we're almost there."

Just then, Kyōraku Callum heard a child's cry from ahead.

"Waaah! Don't chase me!"

A large amount of sand swirled in the air, suggesting a large creature was moving through it.

Kyōraku Callum smirked. While I don't have high hopes, he thought, meeting you is a pleasant surprise.

A child-like green figure ran and cried across the desert, pursued by three strange creatures. This was clearly bullying.

Nelliel wiped her tears, running towards them.

Bang!

Her head hit something, and she fell. She looked up, confused.

"Who...? Who are you?"

Kyōraku Callum gently scooped her into his arms, removing her hood. "Hello, my name is Kyōraku Callum." His smile was warm and reassuring.

The three pursuing Arrancar—the giant-faced Dondochakka, the termite-like Pesche, and the giant snake Bawabawa—stopped abruptly. They stared in shock at the scene before them: nearly thirty menacing Eleventh Division members glaring at them. Although the Shinigami weren't releasing spiritual pressure, the oppressive atmosphere was palpable.

Black clothes, fierce faces, long swords...

"Nelliel, they're Shinigami!"

"Bawabawa!"

The two Arrancar screamed in terror.

Nelliel looked up, her large eyes filled with fear. "Waaah! I don't want to die!"

Her childlike mind, pure and kind, lacked the strength to protect herself. She'd escaped the cycle of fighting, only to fall into greater danger.

Kyōraku Callum shook his head, wiping her tears. "Don't worry, we're not bad guys."

Nelliel stopped crying, looking at Kyōraku Callum pitifully. "R-really?"

Kyōraku Callum smiled. "Of course. Don't let their appearances fool you; these Shinigami are kind at heart."

Yumichika Ayasegawa's temples throbbed. "Damn it! They called me ugly!"

Madarame Ikkaku quickly restrained her; he wasn't a match for Kyōraku Callum, let alone Yumichika.

Dondochakka and Pesche were terrified but remained protectively beside Nelliel, even surrounded by fierce Shinigami.

"Alright, stand down," Kyōraku Callum said. "Don't worry about them; they're just harmless Hollows."

He carried Nelliel to Dondochakka and Pesche. "What are you doing here?"

"The Endless Chase Game!" Nelliel peeked out from Kyōraku Callum's arms, excitedly shouting.
