Chapter 3 - Departure

"Xiao Chen, dinner is ready."

The voice of the old lady, Yin Yehua, roused Yu Chen from his thoughts.

"Alright, Grandma. I'm coming." Yu Chen shouted, looking at his hand. Suddenly, a silver coin appeared on top of it, before vanishing again.

Each time this happened, the mysterious ring on his finger emitted a faint purple glow.

Yu Chen smiled.

"So this is also a storage ring? It seems similar to Tang San's Twenty-Four Moonlit Bridges, which the Grandmaster gave him." He thought.

Ever since the Martial Soul awakening ended, Yu Chen had locked himself in his room to uncover the secrets that had been left open that day.

What he discovered was this: His second Martial Soul was a blue 'Crystal Crested Serpent' with purple eyes and crest. It was literally a twin of his first Martial Soul.

The ring on his hand could absorb his energy. In return, he received a purer flow, which was used to strengthen his own body. Unfortunately, it seemed very slow, and only a few scars on his body disappeared after several hours of practice.

It was a good method for long-term strengthening, but in the short term, using his own spiritual power was not very viable.

Next was the cultivation technique: This was the strangest part, without a doubt. He began to cultivate, and several points of golden energy flowed through his limbs, going directly into his blood.

That's right, it was going into his blood, which then circulated through his body.

It seemed to be refined with this energy. He hadn't noticed any changes yet in this short period, but in the long term, it might be different. A technique named Dragon and Sovereign shouldn't be something simple.

"Let's leave that for the future. For now, I should focus on my future plans: find a good primary academy, obtain my first spirit ring, and then try to find out something about my parents." Yu Chen clenched his fists.

Even though he wasn't originally from this world, he still wanted to know why he was left in that village. He knew he hadn't been abandoned. Perhaps something had truly happened that prevented his parents from coming back for him.

This reminded him of a protagonist from another novel, who was left in a similar village by parents who went out to find medicine for him. Both then became trapped in a place, unable to leave.

The boy grew up, became powerful, and only then found his parents. But by then, they had already missed their son's entire childhood.

"It doesn't matter. With twin spirits and this unknown ring, I can find them in a few years, or at least discover what happened."

With that decided, he got up and left the room, heading towards the kitchen.

At the table, Yin Yehua was already seated. Her snow-white hair fell gently on her wrinkled face. Her skin was not good; it looked wrinkled, and her deep eyes were a shadowy white.

But on her face, a gentle smile appeared when she sensed Yu Chen's presence.

"Come, Xiao Chen. Let's celebrate the success of your martial awakening." She raised a glass of wine.

Of course, she could drink. He only drank water.

Yu Chen nodded and smiled. The old grandmother had a frightening appearance to the other children in the village, but to him, she couldn't have been kinder. She was the one who raised him, cared for him, and taught him his first words.

For her, he wouldn't hesitate to do the impossible. That was the level of gratitude he felt for her.

The two sat together, and Yu Chen first put the meal on her plate, before doing the same for himself. Dinner proceeded smoothly, with her asking about his plans for the future and when he planned to leave for the spirit master academy.

She didn't ask if he would go.

It was an order.

All children in the village with spiritual power were required to study at a spirit academy. It would be no different for Yu Chen.

"The Blue Tyrant Academy will open its doors for enrollment within the next two months. I will train in the village for a month and a half, and then I should leave to register." Yu Chen replied. The Blue Tyrant Academy belonged to Liu Er Long, and only accepted commoners. It should be a good starting place for him.

"The Blue Tyrant Academy? Hm... that's a good choice. The other children who also awakened should leave next month to take the test at other academies. You can go with them; that way, you'll have more time to get to know the place."

"Alright, Grandma." Yu Chen didn't question it. Leaving half a month earlier or later wouldn't interfere much with his plans.

Finishing their conversation and dinner, Yu Chen returned to his room. Without hesitation, he sat in a lotus position and began to cultivate.

Hu!~

In his body, a golden glow flickered in his left pupil while a purple hue flickered in his right pupil beneath his eyelids. Of course, Yu Chen noticed none of this.

Thus, for the next few days, it was common to see a medium-sized child running through the village, carrying a basket with heavy stones on his back, or sitting cross-legged on top of a small mountain.

Yu Chen kept his training controlled, alternating between his cultivation technique, his physical body, and absorbing energy from the ring on his hand. In that month, he grew two centimeters taller, and his body seemed a little more toned.

On this day, he was already standing at the village entrance along with six other children: two boys and four girls.

One of the boys had only one spirit power, while the other was even worse, with only half a point. The first was the one who had awakened a Bow as a Martial Soul, and the other awakened a Blazing Red Bear.

Besides Yu Chen, they were the only boys.

The girls were a little better.

The strongest had three spirit power, and she awakened two aquatic iron chains. In Yu Chen's opinion, if well-trained, she could be a control and attack system master.

The second had two and a half spirit power, and had awakened a Three-Clawed Eagle. The other two were sisters, with two spirit power and Demonic Wind Foxes as their Spirits.

Yu Chen was the strongest in this group. He was also the youngest, but even so, everyone respectfully called him "Elder Brother."

He not only seemed more mature than them but was also the strongest. So the girls called him elder brother without any problem, but the boys seemed a little reluctant.

"Elder Brother Chen, are you really going to the Blue Tyrant Academy?" Lin Ling, the girl with the White Fox as her Spirit, asked. Her clear, bright eyes watched him curiously.

"Yes. My Martial Soul doesn't have attributes like yours. So entering a more comprehensive academy is the most ideal for me."

"Really? Could I follow Elder Brother to the Blue Tyrant Academy too?"

"Lin Ling!"

Lin Shui raised her voice, shouting at her sister, who shrunk her neck before cutely sticking out her tongue.

Yu Chen smiled. "It's better if both of you go to Godwind Academy. You have an innate wind attribute, so it will be much more beneficial. But when you want to visit me, there's no problem."

"Really?! Thank you then, Elder Brother!" Lin Ling smiled, holding Yu Chen's arm.

Lin Shui shook her head, but a smile also appeared at the corner of her lips.

On the other hand, the other two boys were a little more distant, frowning as they looked at Yu Chen, who was surrounded by the four girls. The envy in their eyes was abysmal. Especially the bear boy, who had some feelings for Lin Ling.

While everyone was talking, a half-hunchbacked old man with white hair approached.

"Hoho! So you're all the brats who succeeded this year. It's much better than last year." The old man smiled, climbing with some difficulty into the simple wooden carriage.

Yu Chen smiled and nodded. "We will inconvenience the elder with the trip." He bowed slightly, and the other children followed his movements.

"No inconvenience. This old man is already used to it. Let's go, I'll still pick you up at the end of the year, so there's no need to get emotional about this departure."
