Chapter 53 - Chapter 53 – Fang Yi Strikes

Found you… Roger!

On the high seas of the New World, aboard a Navy battleship with a dog-head prow, Admiral Garp raised his telescope and grinned.

Admiral Garp, why are you so obsessed with capturing this pirate named Roger? asked a towering young man wearing a black hat, standing several head-lengths taller than Garp.

"Don't underestimate Roger! He's no ordinary pirate. If we let him go, it could cause major trouble," Garp chuckled as he gave orders to steer the warship toward the Oro Jackson.

"Garp?" shouted Lookout Golan from the mast. "It's Admiral Garp!"

Barret, mid-practice, stopped in his tracks. "Garp?" he echoed, vaguely recalling the name. "Isn't that the legendary Navy Vice-Admiral?"

"It—again him? I thought he was on another mission," Roger sighed, eyeing the Navy ship approaching fast.

"Full speed ahead! Let's evade him!" Roger shouted to the helm, and the ship towered ahead.

"Captain! May I go with Wang Zai to intercept them?" Fang Yi volunteered, scanning the approaching Navy ship.

"Do it—but don't overextend. Retreat if needed!" Roger replied.

"Yes, sir!" Fang Yi mounted Wang Zai and nodded. "Let's go meet Admiral Garp!"

"Woof woof!" Wang Zai barked and plunged into the sea.

Hidden beneath the waves, Fang Yi and Wang Zai moved swiftly toward the Navy ship.

"!"

Admiral Garp eyed the intruders entering the water. "Hmm… I expected a fishman meddling with the ship—like those past distractions. But it's not that fishman—it's a kid and a dog."

Not long after, Fang Yi surfaced near the stern, signaling Wang Zai to hold position. He drew five arrows—the maximum he could fire accurately for now—from his upgraded medium quiver. (Medium Quiver: holds 50 arrows and auto-refills one every 30 minutes.)

Protecting spares in his backpack allowed him to maintain combat-ready stock without buying more.

"Charged Arrow: Ice Rain!"

"Thwip-thwip-thwip-thwip-thwip!"

Five ice arrows erupted upward, followed by rapid-fire shots. Fang Yi's new "Arrow Rain" technique—a rapid burst of elemental arrows—sprinkled a layer of ice across the deck. Though he had briefly considered fire arrows, the seawater made ice arrows more effective.

Navy officers aboard cried out, "Those are no ordinary arrows! Stay back from them!"

More arrows fell, until Kuzan the Ice Admiral produced an immense shield of ice above the deck, blocking every shot. Kuzan's shield even thickened on contact with Fang Yi's ice arrows.

Meanwhile, Fang Yi and Wang Zai circled toward the stern.

"Time to stir things up," Fang Yi muttered. "Fire Arrow Rain!"

He lost another volley—flaming arrows this time—aiming to sow chaos, not sink the ship. But as he fired, a razor-thin blade of ice hurtled toward him from above.

"Woah!" Fang Yi dove clear—Wang Zai's keen instincts saved him—as an ice blade nicked the sea, freezing its surface around.

Distant on deck, Garp and Kuzan glared. Garp snarled, "Kiddo… so it was you."

Kuzan frowned, as though impressed.

"Admiral Garp, I just came by to say hi. Didn't mean to stick around," Fang Yi called out defiantly.

"You're not here under Roger's orders, are you?! This time you won't get away!" Garp barked, gesturing sharply.

"Uh, no, sir—just an intern here…" Fang Yi laughed nervously. "I'll be going now. Nice meeting you!"

He mounted Wang Zai, and they sank under the waves once more.

"That brat is fast," Garp muttered, glaring.

Subordinate Kuzan asked, "Admiral, that kid—is he from Roger's crew?"

Garp nodded. "An intern, armed with a bow—probably sent to stall us."

"But that was ice-power on those arrows? Not an ice user either… Could he be some strange fishman race?" Kuzan guessed.

Garp shook his head. "No fishman. His tactics are weird. Not Devil Fruit powers, more like a rare lineage. Just keep hunting them—see what else they come up with!"

Back on the Oro Jackson, Fang Yi emerged safe and was greeted by cheers. But Lookout Golan ran toward Roger with urgent news...
