Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: When Grief Breeds Grit

Author's Note:

This chapter's more reflective, but important. Let's check in on Jake and Laz, three months after the tragedy.

Three Months Later

Jake and Laz had been through hell.

After the incident, they returned their apartment access cards, got refunded, and disappeared for a while.

Laz eventually persuaded Jake to join "The Reaper," a controversial organization. Initially, Jake resisted, but the harsh truth was—this might be his only chance to rewrite his fate.

The Reaper's goal?Helping people erase dirty records—murder, fraud, abuse—by forging official seals and rebuilding clean lives.

Jake knew it was shady. But he wanted money. Nothing else.

Recently…

Jake had been staying up through the night, glued to his PC. Laz barely saw him anymore.

Three days ago, Laz got invited to a grand birthday party at the prestigious Holande Suite. One million Dillira just to enter.

He considered inviting Jake—but the guy was a ghost lately.

Laz's Point of View

Jake's been cold. Quiet. Focused. I can't figure him out.He doesn't talk, doesn't smile. Always locked on that PC.

The crazy part? He applied for Mechanical Engineering at Meloparty University. Me? I'm going for Arts. Way safer.

I walked to his room.

He was studying.

"Bro, why are you summarizing the uni manual?" I asked.

"Just getting ready," he said calmly.

"And the late nights on your laptop?"

No response.

Frustrated, I told him, "You're coming out with me tomorrow."

He rejected the idea immediately.

Fine. I walked off.

Some people grieve hard. Jake? He's taking it to a whole new level.

Author's Note (End)What's Jake really doing? Is Laz wrong for moving on?
