–Chapter 4: Lessons in Gravity–
---
The morning sun broke slowly through the forest canopy, washing the world in muted gold. Dew clung to the leaves, sparkling like shards of glass, and a faint mist curled around the trunks of ancient pines. The air smelled of wet moss and smoke, the lingering memory of last night's campfire.
John sat cross legged in the center of a small clearing, the soft grass damp beneath him. He exhaled slowly and let his eyes drift closed, listening to the forest. A breeze stirred the branches above, carrying the distant caw of a crow and the trickle of water somewhere nearby. Insects hummed faintly under the leaves. For the first time in his new life, he felt… anchored.
He had done it. He was finally a mage.
With a thought, he called the system to life. A faint blue shimmer flickered before his eyes, crisp and familiar.
