Chapter 34 - The warning

Xane just stared at the notification blankly.

He thought for a bit and asked Zayn, [Is it because we belong to the House of Zenaris, or is it because we're from the Cursed Land of Chaos?]

Zayn raised his eyebrows as he walked into the hall.

Xane started laughing. [Haha, I get it. So everyone wants a rare guinea pig like us.]

Zayn nodded.

Another notification popped up at that moment.

{The coordinates to the Hex Master's lab have been transferred to you. You have to report to him starting tomorrow.}

Xane nodded.

Just then, he noticed a few other teens standing in the hall, examining the interior and talking with each other.

A few of them were also doing the same from outside, staring in fascination.

Xane just mumbled, [Well, I guess… welcome to Tenebris Academy .]

Zayn walked out of the castle and said aloud, "Same."

With that, Zayn started walking back toward their dorm room.

Soon, he reached the small trail that passed along the residential area of the elves.

From a distance, he could see that the overall structure of this residence was the same as the human one.

It's just that most of the buildings in this area were painted blue.

Even though the elves' residence was closest to the academy, it was just too bad that they didn't have any free space like the edge of the track.

Though there were a few small gardens with no buildings present, it gave the illusion that nature surrounded this entire residential area.

As he continued walking, the trail soon moved through a row of trees.

This row marked the boundary of the residential area.

On the other side of the boundary, he saw a massive green hall.

It was almost half the size of the residential area and had large arched doors on all four sides.

There was still some time before lunch, yet he could see that more than a third of the hall was already filled with students.

This hall not only served as the cafeteria but also as a place for different species to mingle with one another.

Just beside this building was a small white infirmary.

In the past few days, he had already checked it.

A bunch of staff who only knew how to handle minor injuries managed this building.

Xane noticed Zayn's gaze and said, [Man, those staff members are like the downgraded version of doctors from Earth.]

Zayn nodded.

[Yeah… by the way, Zayn, you talked about the residence shift, right? When is that going to happen?]

Zayn remembered that in the novel, most students shifted from species-based divisions to classes based divisions.

That way, those on the same team could live together.

He thought for a bit and said,

Zayn continued along the trail, but this time his focus shifted to the left side.

Far away from the trail, he could see the red building of another residence. This one was for the dwarves. It looked exactly the same as the human one.

Not long after, Zayn finally reached his own residence building. As he was about to enter, someone shouted from behind.

"Hey, you!"

Zayn turned around in confusion, only to see a red-haired boy walking toward him.

The boy didn't care about Zayn's reaction and just said, "Miss Melina has sent a message for you."

Zayn raised his eyebrow at the way the guy addressed his sister. He asked, "What's the message?"

The guy didn't even look at him and said, "It's about the Hex Master selection. I believe Miss already told you beforehand which Hex Master you're supposed to choose."

Xane asked, [What was that hex master's name?]

Zayn just nodded to the guy while ignoring Xane.

The redhead nodded like he expected that. "Good. So Miss wants you to apply to that Hex Master. She already spoke with him, and he'll wait for your application."

Xane cursed. [Fck, we didn't even attend the first class, and trouble's already here.]

Zayn maintained the smile. "Don't worry. I'll follow my sister's wishes."

The guy looked him up and down, then walked away, saying, "That will be good for you."

Zayn just sighed.

Xane asked in a sarcastic tone, [What's the plan? Just keep lying until she finds out?]

Zayn rolled his eyes.

Xane laughed. [Haha, terrible plan, but I support it.]

Zayn just shook his head. There was no solution to this problem.

Only after they learned to use hex energy would they be able to try anything against someone like Melina, someone who had most of Zenaris under her control.

Zayn sighed again and walked toward his room. As he opened the door, he saw that none of his roommates were present.

He jumped onto his bed and took out his ID.

Xane wanted to complain, but he understood Zayn wasn't wrong.

He thought for a bit and said, [Hey, how about you open two separate screens? You read the content on one, and I'll focus on the other. We'll discuss at the end.]

Zayn paused for a bit and asked in surprise,

Xane mentally smiled. [Dude, it might not look like it, but I've read a lot in my life. It's just that my knowledge is limited to some niche topics.]

Zayn raised his eyebrow.

Xane replied in a calm voice, [Well, a few of them are related to the human body. Like where it hurts the most, how to kill someone fast, and stuff like that.]

The calm way Xane said it made Zayn gulp.

He suddenly remembered that he was talking to a monster.

A monster who had taken more than 10,000 lives.

He just nodded his head and started setting up the screens.
