Ciao

The old chapel smelled like dust, ash, and something ancient.

Aria stepped inside slowly, holding her cloak tight. Her pendant glowed faintly, lighting the shadows around her. The door creaked shut behind her, and a heavy silence settled in the air.

Wooden benches stood in rows, covered with cobwebs. Some had collapsed. The stained glass windows were cracked, letting in slivers of moonlight that painted soft colors across the stone walls.

Her eyes were drawn to the altar at the front.

And then she saw it.

A painting hung above it, its frame old but still strong. The canvas had faded with time, but the image was clear.

A girl stood in the center.

She wore a silver robe and a glowing moonstone pendant — just like Aria's. Her hair was long, her eyes calm, proud, and wise.

But what made Aria freeze… was the face.

It was hers.

Exactly hers.

And underneath the painting, in carved letters, were the words:

> Lady Arielle of the Moon Remnant

Her heart thudded. Her throat felt tight.

She walked closer, slowly, like in a dream. Her fingertips hovered just above the frame.

This was me,she whispered. I was her.

Her breath caught.

But before she could touch the painting, a voice came from behind her.

You came.

Aria turned sharply.

A man stood in the doorway. His cloak was dark, and the sword at his side shimmered faintly in the moonlight. He stepped out of the shadows, his face calm but serious. His presence made the room feel smaller — heavier.

Who are you? she asked, heart still pounding.

Lysander,he said.I sent the letter.

She stared at him.Why?

He glanced at the painting. Because it's time you remember who you were… and what's coming."

---

He walked slowly toward her. Aria didn't move, but her hand brushed the pendant on her chest. It felt warmer now, like it was reacting to him.

You know about me,she said quietly.

I knew you, he corrected. Before the fall. Before you died."

Her breath hitched. Then it's true. I was her.

He gave a small nod. Yes. You were Lady Arielle — the last Moon Remnant. You held the moonstone. You led armies. You made peace between realms.

She looked down at the floor. But I can't remember any of it.

Not yet. But the pendant chose you again for a reason.

---

She sat slowly on one of the old pews, the dust rising around her. Her hands trembled as they rested on her lap.

Lysander sat beside her — not too close, but near enough that she felt the warmth of his presence.

You said you were there. When I… died?

Yes,he said softly.I was your swordbearer. Your protector.

And you didn't stop it?

There was no anger in her voice — only pain and confusion.

He looked away.I tried. I failed.

The silence between them stretched like a thread pulled too tight.

I buried your pendant myself," he added. I didn't think I'd ever see it again. Or you.

She turned to face him. Why are you helping me now?

He met her eyes — and in his, she saw sadness… and something else. Something deeper.

Because I owe you more than a grave.

---

Aria's heart felt heavy. She looked back at the painting.

I don't feel like her,she said.

You're not,he replied. You're Aria now. But the world hasn't forgotten Arielle. And neither have the shadows.

She sighed. So what happens now?

He stood and offered her his hand. Now we walk the path together. If you'll let me.

She hesitated.

Then placed her hand in his.

His touch was steady, warm.

Alright,she whispered.

---

But deep inside, she knew this was just the beginning.

She didn't know if she could trust him yet.

But something in her chest — in her soul — remembered Lysander's name.

And that terrified her more than anything.
