This is an Umamusume fanfiction, not a horse racing novel.
1. Competition Format
The primary purpose is to serve the plot. As previously mentioned, the competition format differs from what you might expect.
For example, Umamusume can freely choose to compete for the Triple Crown or the Triple Tiara. Veteran Horse races will be unlocked, while Classic Races remain once-in-a-lifetime events. Consider this a preemptive measure to prevent confusion when reading, similar to how I sometimes mistakenly write the protagonist's name wrong.
2. Kousei's Growth
Based on the information I've gathered, many readers are curious about how Kousei will improve.
Improvement is inevitable. If Kousei doesn't grow stronger, she'll fall behind McQueen and Teio.
The upcoming chapters will focus entirely on Kousei, with the stage already set.
Why tell this story from Kousei's perspective? Why choose a "Mediocre Talent"?
Mainly because I admire hard workers, not just in Umamusume but also in other sports anime. Characters like Oikawa Tooru, Hinata Shouyou, and Isagi Yoichi, who steadily progress toward their dreams, inspire me.
Kousei's brilliance wouldn't come from her bloodline. I've repeatedly emphasized the definition of "Mediocre Talent" and used the performances of geniuses to make everyone keenly aware of the vast gap between different levels of talent.
My purpose was to reinforce the idea that "a genius is a genius" in their minds, to make it an ingrained belief.
To this end, I gave Kousei the hellish Japanese Derby—a place where dreams converged. What the Japanese Derby represents needs no further explanation from me.
I first encountered Umamusume before learning about horse racing, so my knowledge may lack some professional depth. However, it was a Derby that inspired me to start writing. The combination of competition and dreams truly ignites the spirit. Ace of Diamond and Haikyuu!!—even though I know next to nothing about these sports myself, watching them still brings tears to my eyes. (Haikyuu!!, hurry up with the next season!)
I saw a comment saying that someone identified with Kousei. After all, this is fundamentally the story of a striver.
The words I had T say to Kousei:
"Even if you lose the race, your life doesn't end. So cry it out, then get back on your feet."
—weren't just for Kousei.
Next comes Kousei's most crucial race—the final step in her evolution.
Some readers may have already guessed part of what's coming.
3. About the Main Story
The main story revolves around "Transcending the Peak," which essentially forms the foundation for Kousei's actions and goals. I have my own interpretation and ideas, though I'm unsure if they'll be well-received.
4. About McQueen and Teio
I want to portray McQueen and Teio in a different light. For instance, Teio's miraculous comeback story is widely known, and readers already have their own established image of her.
Resilience is Teio's defining trait—everyone admires her unwavering determination. But I want to create a "Born King." Umamusume is a game that allows us to rewrite regrets. This time, the Undefeated Triple Crown isn't just a fleeting dream, and Tokai Teio won't fade into obscurity.
As for other characters, I may briefly introduce them in the story's social media circle to reinforce readers' impressions, which will also enhance the later plot developments.
5. About This Book
I have a clear vision for how the story will unfold, but I'm struggling with how to execute it effectively.
This project is purely a labor of love, and I'm uncertain how long I can maintain the continuous updates.
Especially lately, when I get distracted playing games, I completely lose track of time.
