Chapter 81 - Chapter 81: The Gu Parents' Decision

"..."

"Let's hear it. What was your original plan? What preparations have you made?"

Seeing Gu Ruoyi's utterly clueless expression, Mr. and Mrs. Gu couldn't help but ask with exasperation. Knowing their daughter, if she didn't have some solution up her sleeve, she wouldn't be sitting there looking so carefree—she'd be panicking already.

At their question, Gu Ruoyi's expression instantly turned solemn, giving her an air of dignified wisdom. Then she dropped her bombshell:

"Plan? I don't have one. With the chat group, if things get really bad, I can just take you all and run away."

Thud! Thud! Thud!

Three simultaneous facepalms echoed through the room—the crisp sound indicating some quality head-smacking was occurring.

Mr. and Mrs. Gu, along with Gu Yun, all wore expressions that screamed, "Of course. The moment she has an escape route, she turns into a complete slacker."

Though to be fair, it wasn't a bad backup plan. When all else failed, having an exit strategy wasn't the worst idea.

But it was clear they couldn't rely on Gu Ruoyi to take the initiative here. So her parents began discussing among themselves—after all, as successful business leaders, once they had concrete information, they could certainly devise some strategies.

After a heated discussion, they turned their attention back to Gu Ruoyi.

"Ruoyi, your mother and I have talked it over," Mr. Gu said, adjusting his glasses. "We feel that unless it's absolutely necessary, we shouldn't abandon our world. Since you've been given this opportunity, why not try to help our world survive this crisis?"

Mrs. Gu nodded in agreement. She didn't want to leave the world that had raised them either. As the saying goes, "East or west, home is best." If their daughter had gained this miraculous chance, perhaps she could actually save their world.

"Mom, Dad, are you serious or just messing with me?" Gu Ruoyi looked at them in disbelief. "With my abilities? Save the world? And such a dangerous one at that?"

She knew her limits quite well. Saving the world? That was a joke. Other worlds might be manageable, but the danger level here was on par with the Perfect World trilogy. Were they overestimating her by a few million light-years?

"Where there's a will, there's a way," Mr. Gu said. "Give it a try. If it doesn't work out, at least we won't have regrets."

Fortunately, her parents understood how unreasonable this request was. They weren't expecting miracles—just hoping she'd make an effort. If it failed, they could flee with clear consciences.

"Fine, I'll try," Gu Ruoyi sighed, seeing the determination in their eyes. "But how exactly am I supposed to do this?"

Knowing her parents wouldn't suggest this without some ideas, she waited for their proposal.

Relieved at her agreement, Mr. and Mrs. Gu exchanged glances before explaining:

"We think cooperating with the government is our best option. Since you can exchange resources for items from other worlds, partnering with the state would give you access to their resource-gathering capabilities. This way, you can grow stronger as quickly as possible."

"Then you can help strengthen the nation in turn. When the real crises come, our country might stand a chance."

Despite being capitalists, the Gu parents held deep respect and trust for their homeland. Unlike certain other nations that squeezed their citizens dry, their country had always treated its people with kindness and fairness.

"Alright, I'll give it a shot," Gu Ruoyi agreed. Though skeptical about how effective this would be, as someone who'd lived two lives in this nation, she held great affection for her country. She had no objections to working with the government—in fact, she'd love to help if possible.

Gu Yun, who'd been listening quietly, suddenly piped up: "Sis, how are you even going to contact the government? Aren't you afraid they'll dissect you for research?"

No sooner had the words left her mouth than a raspy yet oddly playful male voice echoed through the living room:

"Now now, young lady, let's not spread misinformation. Our research institutes might collect some tissue samples, but we'd never engage in human dissection."

"Who's there?!"

The Gu family sprang to their feet, scanning the room for the source of the voice—but found nothing.

Gu Ruoyi's eyes narrowed. With a blink, her pupils turned white as she activated her Insight ability. Scanning the area, she immediately spotted a man in black hiding within a spatial fold at the room's center.

Her angelic gene engines whirred to life.

"Space lockdown!"

With her command, the surrounding space twisted violently, forcibly ejecting the hidden figure into plain view.

"Wha—?!"

Before the stunned man could react, Gu Ruoyi raised her hand for another attack, prompting him to throw his hands up in surrender.

"Don't shoot! Friendly! Friendly!"

Gu Ruoyi paused, noticing the prominent red star emblem on his chest—the national insignia. This really was one of their own. A government agent, no less.

Their first encounter with state personnel had somehow turned into an ambush takedown.

Well... this is awkward.

"I was just investigating spiritual energy fluctuations!" the man hastily explained, not wanting to tangle with a technological angel. "I didn't mean to eavesdrop! I only spoke up because this young lady was slandering our country's policies!"

Do I look like I haven't watched Super God before? he thought frantically. Those angels are OP as hell! With her Insight, she'd predict my every move before I made it!

"Investigating... spiritual energy?" Gu Ruoyi's attention sharpened. "Has the spiritual revival already begun?"

"Uh... actually, it started over a year ago," the agent admitted. "The government's been containing it so the public wouldn't panic. But recently, more creatures are being affected, and it's getting harder to manage. We were planning to announce it soon anyway."

Hearing this, Gu Ruoyi's mind reeled. An entire year? And the government kept it completely under wraps?

Then it hit her—this man had been hiding in spatial folds to observe them. Suddenly, everything made much more sense.
