Chapter 3 - "When Mage Meets a Ghost Girl."

"So I can finally change classes?"

Excitement flashed in Minato's eyes as he looked at the message.

In that crappy browser game from his past life, the real fun didn't start until after your class change.

And this "Origin Mage" class? It was considered the strongest of them all.

No hesitation—Minato hit "Confirm."

In an instant, the virtual panel lit up like a star, bursting with brilliant light.

At the same time!

He felt his soul being drawn into a vast, boundless realm filled with lightning from every direction. It felt like he had completely merged with it.

He didn't know how long he was in that space…

But when Minato came back to his senses, he could feel it.

His flesh, his veins, his limbs—every part of his body and mana had completely changed.

It felt like he was made of lightning now.

A moment later, veins popped out on his forehead as an intense pain shot through his body—every cell was being torn apart and then rebuilt.

After more than ten minutes, Minato was drenched in sweat, gasping for air.

"So… this is the power of an Origin Mage?"

He lifted a finger, and golden lightning danced along it. Even he was a little scared by how intense the energy felt.

There was no need for a magic circle—casting thunder magic had become instinctual.

And even though it was just a tiny spark of lightning, Minato could tell—it was enough to instantly obliterate his former self.

He was strong now. Way stronger than before. Insanely strong.

After getting a feel for his new power, Minato opened the virtual panel again.

[Minato]Class: Origin MageMagic: Origin Thunder Magic LV1 (+)Origin: 182 points

His old Thunder Magic was gone—replaced by Origin Thunder Magic.

"Looks like I can still use regular spells too."

Minato raised his palm, and a pale blue magic circle formed. Arcs of lightning danced within it.

Compared to before, its power had grown significantly. While it still couldn't compare to origin magic, it was definitely several times stronger than before, thanks to the change in its magical nature.

"Hmm?"

As Minato pushed open the library doors and stretched lazily, he suddenly paused with a curious "Huh?"

He could faintly sense a call—someone was summoning a demon.

"Someone's trying to summon a demon?"

"Looks like that little cat passed out my flyers again."

Dong! Dong! Dong!

Heavy knocking echoed through the room.

Utaha curled up under her blanket, teeth chattering. She stared at the security cam feed showing the outside of her door—but it was completely empty.

Still, the knocking continued, steady and unrelenting.

"C-Could it really be... a ghost?"

Utaha's heart was pounding. She wanted to open the door and check, but she was way too scared to move.

Dong!

Dong! Dong!

Bang! Bang! Bang!

As if annoyed by her hesitation, the knocks grew louder and heavier. The temperature in the room began to drop rapidly.

"N-No way!"

"Whatever's out there is probably gonna break in eventually!"

Gritting her teeth, she somehow mustered up the courage to start rummaging through her desk. Finally, she pulled out a flyer.

It looked like a regular flyer, but it had a super intricate magic circle drawn on it.

That's why she hadn't tossed it—she figured it could be useful as material for a novel.

"I don't care if you're a demon or something else—just please, save me!"

As she stared at the circle, she found herself whispering instinctively.

Buzz!

The moment the words left her mouth, the magic circle on the flyer lit up with a blinding red glow.

Utaha jumped in shock and let go of it.

But instead of falling to the ground, the flyer transformed into a massive magic circle nearly three meters wide.

And in the very next second—

A figure appeared right in front of her.

"A-A real demon...?"

Staring at the black-haired, red-eyed Minato, Utaha's pupils shrank in disbelief.

Sure, she was the one who summoned him—but now that a literal demon was standing in front of her, it still felt unreal.

"You saw me with your own eyes, didn't you?"

As he spoke, a pair of wings suddenly unfurled from Minato's back.

They looked like bat wings, but there was a weird, eerie aura coming off them.

"..."

Utaha was frozen, staring blankly, her entire worldview being reassembled.

Swoosh!

Minato tucked his wings away and said calmly, "Greetings, contractor. I'm Minato. I've come in response to your summon. Please state your wish."

As he looked at her, his eyes flickered slightly.

The moment he saw her, he already knew who she was.

Holy crap—how many anime worlds have merged into this one?

Trying her best to stay calm, Utaha took a deep breath. Her brain was still catching up, but she had more urgent things to deal with.

She asked cautiously, "Mister Demon... Can you get rid of the evil spirit outside my door?"

"Of course I can."

Minato didn't hesitate at all.

The thing outside was just a low-level cursed spirit—barely worth mentioning.

Without wasting time, Minato strode over and yanked open the door.

"You opened it!"

"You opened it!"

A grotesque cursed spirit, with a giant head, a tiny body, and ten eyes, let out an excited roar the moment it saw him.

God, that thing's ugly.

Minato frowned.

"What'd you just say?!"

The cursed spirit was pissed. It opened its gaping mouth, ready to get a taste of this human.

But before it could act, a flash of blue lightning struck—and it was instantly obliterated.

"Can't even tell who you're messing with…"

Minato shook his head.

These weak cursed spirits had no brains. No clue which world this one came from either.

Closing the door behind him, Minato turned back to the still-stunned Utaha.

"Alright, the problem's taken care of. Now... shouldn't we talk about payment?"

Utaha froze, then asked instinctively, "What kind of payment?"

Minato smiled. "You summoned a demon. Surely you're not thinking of freeloading?"

Utaha shrank back a little, voice soft. "So what do I give you?"

Minato pulled out the queen piece from the Demon Chess Set. "It's simple—just become mine."

"Huh?!"

Utaha's face turned bright red. "You pervy demon!"

"....."
